I bet Arsenal fans are ecstatic that they have a negative net spend and no trophies. Foodie has always been about the balance sheet.

They should at least be content with their manager, though.

They haven't managed their move to the Emirates very well, from the looks of it, but still, they should soon be benefiting from it.

Well if Arsenal will soon own the stadium outright then they have done pretty well really.

Okay, they haven't won any trophies but they have stayed in the top 4 all this time. I am sure we would have taken that!

Arsenal have done really well and their fans are idiots. They have the best long term prospects of pretty much any club in the Premiership.

I agree but they can't keep basking in what Wenger did nearly a decade ago when they've clearly got the same issues that have held them back for years.

Its paid off this year, so it will be interesting so see what they do this summer.
Wenger has to change his philosophy though and spend more than he has been doing in the past if they are going to challenge again.

Well of course he does, but he might not have had the money to do so. We don't know.

Obviously we have to hope that he has just been a stubborn, tight bastard, will never change and will never leave.

At least Villa had a decent shot at 'glory'. Look at Sunderland! Only £4m less spent, absolutely nowhere in the league any time I can remember.

Stoke also surprisingly high spenders.

I doubt a lot of them bring a lot in though do they? I can't think of any players who Stoke ever sell for decent money, and I can't think of any signings they have made for big money either really.

I don't know how much the average club makes each season from TV money, sponsorship, gates etc but could be that the likes of Stoke just spend it all on making sure they stay up the next year.

While we are on the topic of spending:

10 years since the January transfer window was first introduced

So we've had a net spend of 20mill a year over those 6 years then, that's not bad. Considering city have spent net about 71mill a year.
Arsenal doing it on a negative budget, and getting in the champions league every year is amazing.
