How will i look an arse? Im responding to what we have seen here.
We have a director of football who is apparantly hot shit.
We needed a LB, DM, LM, RM, CF and maybe a CB. You agree?
We also sold a winger, a CF a LB.
Given the months we had to assess our needs and find replacements we have come up with
Luis Suarez a forward.
Great. Fine. We needed that.
Torres walking out meant we needed another forward. Great we got one.
And thats where we are this window.
Weve spent 2m quid and are still short of a LB, DM, LM, RM as we were 4 months ago when Comolli came in.
Maybe in summer we invest massively and sort this mess out but here and now we still have Poulsen in CM, Jovanovic at LM, Kuyt at RM, Kelly at RB, Johnson at LB etc etc.
We havnt dont very well at all.

And it's January window. Considering that and we've been fucked over by Torres we've done extremely well. People have been like Torres and expect overnight miracles and throw a stroppy one because it's not happened.
I think we've done well CONSIDERING. You haven't. I'll leave it there

After reading the entire thread I'll come back to this post.
In the cold light of day the rational ones all knew that NESV were right in their summation that there was some serious problems with the clubs operations. It was sound business sense and should have been encouraging for those who loved the club. The only issue was that we feared it would be used as reasoning against improving the team which was, after all, something we all desperately wanted.
The circumspect warned against thinking that we'd do any spending in January; it's historically a bad window to do business, NESV were still coming to grips with problems from the previous regime and the managerial post was far from sorted. Then we bid a net 44m in the window and people are complaining that NESV didn't prove anything. Astonishing.
We're a successful club, our owners are operating like we're a successful club (not a flash in the pan, oil rich playboy with little business sense). They're not going to make stupid offers which will hamstring us in future windows nor get players at any cost and so create a rod for their back in the future. What they have done is show clearly that they will pay good money if the player is right, the other party aren't idiots and that they'll do so in a sound, sensible business manner.
I said in another post that I truly think they've shown the approach that will take us in a straight line to the summit. I also think we'll find ourselves competing with Spurs to do this. Chelsea aren't equipped to handle the new guidelines when they come in, City are even less capable of doing so, the mancs have got an enormous problem when Fergie finally gives it away. Spurs have been a similarly well run club in the manner to which NESV appear to be managing us. They've been doing it for a couple of years longer, are very well placed for the new guidelines and already reaping some success.
I think, in two years, we will be competing with Spurs at the top of the table. The edge we'll have is that no matter how well run they have been for the last couple of years they will never have the name to compete with Liverpool.
PS. I can't quite bring myself to discount united and arsenal completely so maybe they'll be in the mix as well. :-\

good post, wiz.
hopefully in the summer nesv will move to plug the rest of holes in our first team in one fell swoop.
