NBA Regular season & PLAYOFFS

Wow. What a game. What a finish. Crushed to see the Suns lose but amazing game. To hell with the Finals, just give me another two weeks of Lakers-Suns.

🙁 Heartbreaking that.

Suns can still win this though. Go zone the shit out of them again!

Wooooohooooooo!!!!

Finally got a chance to catch a game. I was biting my nails the whole of the 4th quarter.

Both conference finals are getting exciting, have a feeling the NBA Finals will be a letdown though.

Wow what a game!

Lakers now meet Celtics in the finals. I know there're more anti-Lakers here than anti-Celtics; but hey, that's fine with me.

GO LAKERS!!!

yah why not, go lakers!

😱

The Lakers can suck my hairy beanbag.

The f$%!ing Man United of basketball...

I do expect them to win the title, though. They're very good. Of course, it helps when you simply get GIVEN a player the ilk of Pau Gasol, just 'cos the league wants you to be good again.

a) don't give up hope yet, the Celts will give it their all
b) wrt bold part - sort of like the Celts & Garnett!

Gah, poor execution in the closing minutes of the game by the Lakers.

1-1, series now shifts to Boston.

b) Oh, give me a break! Do your homework, mate... In Al Jefferson, we sent Minnesota a VERY talented player, predicted by many for stardom. Many in Boston were HIGHLY critical at the time.

Five players and two draft picks is hardly grand larceny.

it could have been 10 players, you were getting a player still in his prime and one of the best PFs in the league. It was a one sided trade then, and now.

I would like to say something about the Gasol trade as well.

Memphis got Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton, the rights to Marc Gasol and 2 first round picks for 2008 and 2010.

From the Memphis point of view,

"We used the 2008 Lakers first round pick to acquire the draft rights to Darrell Arthur, who will return sometime this month after missing all of the season thus far due to pectoral surgery. He made 64 starts last season.

"We traded Javaris Crittenton to the Washington Wizards to reacquire one of our own first round picks that we originally gave to Washington for the draft rights to Juan Carlos Navarro, who since signed to play in Spain again.

"We also have the Lakers' 2010 first round pick (We also have our own and the Nuggets after acquiring Steven Hunter) and obviously Marc Gasol.

"Also, the money we saved on Pau's deal allowed us to assume the contract of Zach Randolph last season, when we essentially traded Darko Milicic for him (Darko for Quentin Richardson first, then Quentin to LAC for Randolph). Pau and Zach are earning similar amount.

"So essentially we have been able to add Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, the NBA's top rebounding duo from the deal. If healthy, Darrell was going to be our first big off the bench. And we added two first rounders (2010 Lakers pick and the pick we reacquired from the Wizards for Javaris Crittenton)."

So it wasnt a lopsided trade as the trade essentially gave them Zach Randolph, Marc Gasol, Darrell Arthur + a number of first round picks.

It seemed lopsided then, but I would say Memphis has done pretty well since then.

Bollocks. And you well know it. Your hatred of the Celtics is blinding you. 7 players for one, Avy?

In his first season with the Timberwolves, Jefferson immediately became the team's scoring leader. Playing in all 82 games, he ranked 20th in the NBA in points per game (11th in total points), averaging 21.0 points per game while shooting .500 from the field. Jefferson also defined himself as one of the premier big men in the NBA by being only one of four players to average 20 points and 10 rebounds (the others being Dwight Howard, Carlos Boozer, and Antawn Jamison). Jefferson ranked 5th in the NBA in rebounding, averaging 11.1 (4th in total rebounds) and 2nd in offensive rebounds per game (3.8), only behind Tyson Chandler (4.1). Jefferson is ranked 12th in the NBA efficiency and is 3rd in the NBA in double-doubles.

THAT production in such a young player PLUS four other players PLUS two draft picks DOES NOT equal anything close to the robbery that was Pau Gasol...

So you traded a top 3 PF (that allowed you to win the NBA championship and took the club to the next level) for one gifted youngster (I didn't realize his #s were that good, the franchise essentially went into hibernation once KG left). How is that not lopsided? You got a ring and KG, it was a great trade for the Celts on every single level.

As per DHSC's comments on the Pau Gasol trade, I think your hatred of the Lakers is blinding you far more than my animousity for the Celts is.

I didn't say that it wasn't a great trade, Avy. I said it wasn't lopsided... We sold the farm to get him, and had it not worked, we'd be f#$!ed for the future, based on what we gave up to get him.

Were it not for injury, AJ would have established himself as a perrenial all-star by now, with his peak still to come. We got a great player with two, maybe three years at the top left in him (which is, unfortunately, becoming all too apparent right now). We took the risk, gave up a helluva lot, and ended up benefitting for it.

The Gasol deal should not have been approved, it was so uneven.

I can understand why you hate the Lakers so much Whaddapie, seeing as you were born and bred (I assume) in Boston. It comes with the territory.

However; to say that the Gasol trade should not have been approved is ridiculous. Popovich shared your sentiments when the trade was made; but ultimately felt that Memphis got a good deal.

Let's look at it this way, how is Minnesota doing now as compared to Memphis?

How the trade's participants end up is not a fair reflection of how they were at the time, amigo...

We gave an all-star caliber player, several role players and future picks to Minnesota. We cannot be held responsible for how they turned out (injuries, trades, etc...). AT THE TIME, the trade was considered quite fair and balanced by most observers.

Likewise, the fact that Memphis made more out of what they were lumped with in the Gasol trade speaks more to how they develop players and work their draft than to the actual equity of the trade itself. AT THE TIME, the Grizzlies were raped.

Yes, he was immense. Always respected him... Very hard not to.

Unfortunately, it's men against boys at the moment. Even more frustrating that we're relatively close, whilst playing like muppets.

Fuck me, I fucking HATE basket-fucking-ball.

Absolutely ridiculous sport... What's a foul on Rondo is not a foul on Kobe. What was a foul in Boston is not a foul in LA. The way you just KNEW the NBA would see these finals go to 7 games. A team (either team) changes from world-beaters to utter losers in two nights.

It's such an incredibly frustrating sport.

I have no idea what's gonna happen tomorrow night. I think we're gonna get killed. So we'll probably win. Or maybe it'll be a draw, and go to free throw shooting. Who knows?

Ridiculous sport.

It's impossible to call a games consistently, I mean a foul could be called on every possession, so where do you draw the line.

I do think the referees dictate the outcome of games more than any other sport. I am positive the league is involved in that, trying to get the match ups and the series they want.

hey - be positive, at least you've won one in the last 5 years and that you're not playing Mr. "I travel and don't get called" Wade

Maybe not, but we are playing Mr "Should be T'd at least once a game for giving the refs far more shit than Rasheed Wallace does, but I can do anything 'cos I'm the answer to the NBA's post-Jordan era prayers" Bryant.

Because Liverpool never goes from defeating Real Madrid to losing or drawing against relegation strugglers the next game?

You can dislike what's happening but let's not pretend it's anything other than frustation at how awful your team stunk up the place.

That's how you treat the best player in the league though ... LeBron will take over with that 'privilege' when Kobe retires.

Day to day swings like this rarely happen as often in other sports, mate. They just don't.

Of course the C's were pitiful. And it's 100% their fault. This isn't about making it anything else.

But there's no other sport where, in the space of 48 hours a team can (and often does) go from playing like crazed dogs, as if every point is a matter of life and death, to the lethargic, nothingness of the C's game 6. And it's EVERYWHERE. And EVERYONE.

Except Kobe. He's ridiculous. Always is. The best there is, without question.

Damnit. You didn't take the bait. That was no fun at all.

And I agree with what you just said.

And Kobe is beyond belief. I love watching him play, even though I was cheering for the Suns in the last round.
