You've nicked my old secret family recepie

Not having lunch these days due to fasting.

My regular meal on breaking fast has been:

1) 2 dates followed by glass of water
2) Some small sweet dish
3) Half plate of rice that is curried and fried served with chick pea curry, some roasted chicken, with lental bhaji and lamb curry sauce. With tomato/onion/chilli salad mix.
4) Some sweet stuff like a glazed donut / yum ym with tea no milk and 1 sugar.
5) two fags for extra pleasure after an 18 hour fast.

@The Nomad - your friends assessment is worrying but does NOT reflect his performance in their league this season. But i think a few of us including myself have always worried about direct purchases of french players from that league who have not played anywhere else. We have the GH experience as proof.

I suppose sex after fasting and sunset is allowed.

@Don_al_Trump - No ... no energy for it these days

@gkmacca - no crisps at all...But was so hungry on Friday after sunset that before I had my plate of fried rice I actually bought some chips and onion rings from the local kebab shop and also a vegy patty from Sub. It all filled me up.

Lyon attacker Nabil Fekir is moving closer to becoming the latest Liverpool signing with reports that the French star has travelled to England to hold talks with the club this afternoon.
French broadcaster Canal Plus is reporting that Fekir, who is seen as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho in the Liverpool side, will meet representatives from the club along with his agent in order to wrap up a deal before the start of the World Cup on June 14.
If talks progress well, Fekir could soon do a medical and be announced as Liverpool's second signing of the summer, along with Monaco midfielder Fabinho.
The transfers don't become official until July 1, while Liverpool will also welcome RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita to the club, in a move that was finalised last summer.
Fekir will likely cost the Reds over €60m, but the club's owners are keen to strengthen after coming up just short in the Champions League final against Real Madrid last weekend.
It is thought that Klopp is also in the market for a new goalkeeper to replace Loris Karius, whose two errors led to goals in the European decider.
Roma's Brazilian shot-stopper Allison has been heavily linked to a move, and could cost Liverpool a record fee for a goalkeeper.

Bernès [Agent of Fekir]: “I have not moved from Marseille, I am with family, but I will be clear, we will go with Nabil to Liverpool or elsewhere, only when there is an agreement with Lyon & if Jean-Michel Aulas gives me the green light.”

This transfer is taking too long and i dont see why the goalkeeping situation has not been sorted out.

Or elsewhere.. sounds like he's still hopeful of whoring him around.

Or alternatively, like the agent doesn't want to make it sound like he's been talking to us before the club have given him permission. Despite the fact it's pretty fucking obvious he has given that the players mate said he'll be coming here earlier today to some random on Instagram.

Yeh but a sandwich is like really easy.

Seriously tho, that sounds lovely

IT'S UNACCEPTABLE.

WE ARE CUNTS.

Yes I know - but this whole business has the feeling of last season. Given there is a world cup on this year - time for signing and integrating new members is kinda short. So if I remember last season we signed Solanke, Robertson, and Salah - and back then not many of us thought much of it all. Keita was signed but we knew he was never gonna join us. So we all waited for VVD, and Coutinho threw a wobbly and we ended up signing Ox on the last day of the transfer window.

This year it feels like - lets keep the common bastards quiet by signing this Fab guy as quickly as possible, and promise the Fekir. But Fekir is taking too long since our interest was declared in him - now we also desperately need a keeper and probably two/three other players. Is this all going to lead to another transfer window where we are just too short and Klopp does his 'let's wait for the right player until next transfer window' - by that time the title is City's again and we have injured players left right front and back again ? Moron ain't falling for that bollox again. Think we all assume we are cash rich this summer - so if we are certain on who we want we should be splashing the cash - end of !!!

Spoke to a French mate today, he really doesn't rate Fekir. Says he'll be another Pogba in the premier league.

Worried now.
Ok, I watched some of this lad. I am not convinced. Not at this price.

Fekir is probably not one of my favorite AMs in the world, but I still think he would be a success here. I think Klopp is interested in Fekir because he is one of those rare players who can actually play the "Firmino role" in the team. Come to think of it, a lot of Bobby and Nabil's respective skills are similar: both are strong and clever enough to hold up the ball under pressure, both have amazing first touch and like to use outrageous tricks in key moments, both are natural-born advanced playmakers with the ability to string the play together and regularly produce key passes and assists, both have a seemingly nonchalant attitude with plenty of real ambition and intensity bubbling underneath.

Fekir is a cleaner finisher than Bobby – his ball-striking technique is better, particularly with the left foot: that's why he scores a significant portion of his goals from outside the penalty area, including from his very good direct free-kicks. Fekir is able to strike the ball low and hard with very little back-lift and his shot accuracy last season was a ridiculous 68% (Bobby's was 61% – and that's taking into account that Fekir takes more long-distance shots). Unlike Firmino, however, he never scores with his head. Overall, his excellent finishing ability and knack for finding tiny pockets of space is more reminiscent of Salah than Bobby and in that sense he could be viewed as a capable back-up for Mo as well.

In terms of playing position, I'm surprised how many pundits and fans place Fekir potentially in the midfield 3 (essentially to replace Milner in the current formation) – I don't think there is much to be gained by asking a player whose best qualities are finishing and assisting to play deeper and to track runners and cover for fullbacks. Like Firmino prior to Liverpool, Fekir is very much a CAM who has on occasion played on the wing, but most of his best work has been in the middle, where his ability to work in congested spaces really shines. In Klopp's usual 4-3-3, I suspect his most natural fit would be in Firmino's position as a "nine and a half." However there is also an intriguing possibility of 4-2-3-1 formation (Klopp's default one in Dortmund) with 2 more defensively-oriented CMs in behind and Fekir in his usual #10 role behind Firmino (I think it would be this way and not the other way around because of Firmino's better heading ability, which is pretty important for a striker).

In terms of work rate, Fekir is actually quite diligent and combative; however I think his stamina is quite a bit worse than Bobby's and sometimes watching him I think why does he need to carry all that muscle mass in the upper body? Initially at least, I think he won't last at the Premier League pace (+ Klopp's gegenpressing) for more than 65-70 minutes in most games. One particular feature of his play is a huge number of fouls against him – last season he got fouled 99 times in 26 games! He is a free-kick earning machine and of course it helps that he is also a superb free-kick taker.

The things I don't like about him have more to do with the style than effectiveness – I prefer playmakers with a bit more effortless elegance and artistry about them, players like Kaka, Pastore, Lemar or even his own teammate Aouar – whereas Fekir is a stalky, bearded busy-bee always looking for a chance to test some lightning-fast trick on a defender and then wringing in pain when – as it usually happens – the bamboozled defender misses the ball and whacks him on the ankles instead. For me he is not a playmaker who raises football to the level of art; but he is very effective, difficult to play against and will probably suit Klopp's model perfectly.

Thanks Rurik. Your point about not understanding why people have him as potentially playing in the midfield three - you answered that yourself. I think he will potentially play behind Firmino, with AOC an alternative there. The key is that he provides that versatility to cover a few positions, as does AOC. Both could play wide if needed, while Fekir can cover for Bobby too. If he does figure in midfield it'll be to spearhead the midfield. That poses loads of questions about where Keita will play too I guess. Next to Fabinho?

Yeah, I think Keita and Fabinho will work beautifully. But depending on opponent, form and availability Klopp can choose almost any CM pairing: Fabinho-Hendo, Hendo-Keita, Gini-Fabinho etc. In Dortmund he used to rotate the CMs quite a lot.

Nice write up Rurik ! I'm sure I said most (some) of that even with shall we say .. a lot more errrr brevity ? Cough.

One point - you need to convert that to per 90 metrics and not overall totals .. considering Firmino played ca. 500 more mins this season and 900 more mins the season before, that does tend to sway the stats in his favour !
