What's with all these loan deals?

Are we skint or are we just afraid of spending money?

I think it's because we haven't been quite wise with some of our spending in two of the last three windows and are in danger of falling foul of FFP rules . January was a great window but the two summers, Brendan's first and second have been rather iffy for value. May as well not have spent money at all for all the good it has done. And we don't seem to be hot on getting good loans, either.

EDIT: I see that Stevie has beaten me to it after a fashion.

Basically we didn't spend enough the last two windows.

Had we overspent massively then we could overspend by not quite as much & under FFP we can't be done as we're making progress.

That's what city, Chelsea, PSG etc have done. Instead we were already trying to play by the rules & it means now we're hamstrung.

That's fucked up. So we spend massively less than Chelsea and City in the summer and yet we can't spend in January?

Shame we cant get a 200 mill sponsorship out of the blue to cover our spending like other clubs eh?
FFP is a joke

If Fenway were prepared to give UEFA backhanders like the Arab and Russian then I'm sure we could clear up any misunderstandings.

Something seems to be amiss with this calculation / scenario, surely ? It can't be based on Transfer Windows per se (i.e. Summer vs Winter) but on Annual / Season totals ? Someone ?

I think we have let ourselves down on acquisitions in the last two summers.

We're missing CL revenue and are making the bigger losses on player sales. Chelsea, for example, banked a potential £8 million on Sturridge and likely as not make upwards of £25 million on de Bruyne and a profit on Mata as well to cite but three examples. Spurs is another case in point with a relatively lower wage bill and a reputation for extracting that extra pound from player sales as both Liverpool and Everton well kn ow from the Robbie Keane and Steven Pienaar experiences. It will be interesting what we will get from the sales of Borini and Aspas, that is if we rid of them.

Of course, Chelsea and City pays higher wages as well so their other costs must be pretty high. And, on the upside for us, our commercial revenue is much bigger given how long we have been out of the CL. We also make a heck of a lot from facility fees from TV rights judging by the number of times we appear on TV.

It's about buying premium talents, we don't do that apparently.

And over-paying for ordinary talent. The plan ought to be maximise the number of Sturridge and Coutinho-- and, of course Torres and Suarez-- type acquisitions and minimise the type such as Carroll, Downing and, at the moment, Borini and Aspas.

Billy Liddell ‏@Liddellpool 24m #LFC want to buy Yann M'Vila immediately with a permanent deal acc to @FabRomano21

@FabRomano21: Rubin today answered to Napoli and Liverpool they don't want to sell M'Vila on loan, pretending 12/13M€. No official bid, right now #LFC

For 12 mill euro I'd sign him

I saw this updated and I got excited it was something more concrete than this ... Oh well, but I'd defo go for him for 12 million euros ...
