Mohamed Salah Link 2017

It sounds like a young lad put in an invidious position by various people, and trying to avoid (unsuccessfully) to avoid controversy.

Unfortunately, it happens routinely (most common with Iranian players).
It really is silly - especially considering he shook hands with English and French clubs' players ... Uuuh check their record out in the region Mo! 😉

So according to the tweets (sorry Rosco) of a Doha based sports correspondent (who is supposedly a friend of Salah) this is a done deal- 40 million euros (£35 million).

Really glad you posted the tweet. It makes it very clear

Mohamed Salah To Liverpool: The Story So Far As The Reds Chase Roma Star

WITH a deal for Roma winger Mohamed Salah seemingly edging ever closer, we take a look at what has happened so far — and what the former Chelsea player could bring to Anfield’s attacking armoury.
Who is he and what’s he like?

Roma’s 24-year-old left-footed Egypt international can play across the midfield and forward line but has played most of his football on the right.
Salah joined Chelsea from Basel for £11million in January 2014 after making 47 appearances for the Swiss side, scoring nine goals.
Liverpool were also interested at the time but although it was widely reported that Salah “snubbed” Brendan Rodgers back then, the player has sought to clarify the situation, claiming protracted negotiations between the Reds and the Swiss club failed to result in an agreement on a fee.
“Negotiations took a long time, because Basel rejected more than one offer,” he said. “They felt the transfer fee was not that high. I was waiting for Liverpool because I really like Liverpool. I was eager to join them.
“But then I received a phone call from Mourinho and that changed everything. He explained the situation to me and told me that he needed me at Chelsea. That was one of the main reasons why I joined Chelsea.”

Salah made only 19 appearances for Chelsea, scoring two goals and assisting four, before he joined Fiorentina on loan. There, he played 26 times, scoring nine and assisting four before a successful loan spell at Roma that led to a permanent £13m deal.
He helped Roma finish second in Serie A last season, scoring 15 goals and providing 18 assists in 31 league appearances.
The story so far

Liverpool are reported to have agreed a £90,000-a-week deal with Salah but Roma and The Reds continue to haggle over a transfer fee for the player.
A £28million bid was apparently rejected earlier in the week, with Roma initially pushing for £40m.
Reports now claim that asking price has now dropped to £35m with a compromise seemingly edging closer.
Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas Issa set tongues wagging earlier this week when his Instagram story showed he was flying to the UK. He had also followed Liverpool’s official Twitter and Instagram accounts.

What they said about Salah

Jose Mourinho: “We had to go for a young player, for a left-footed player and for a fast player – especially who is fast in the space because most of my attacking players are fast and fast with the ball.
“I like the fact that he can play the same way as our attacking players do, which is players with adaptability to play right, left or behind the striker in the model we have with normally — one striker and three behind the striker.
“He’s young like our players in that area. He’s fast, creative, enthusiastic. When we analyse him he looks the kind of humble personality on the pitch, ready to work for the team and adapt to a new life.
“Salah is a kind of player that looks for the space and tries to get behind people so we think he was a good choice.”
Xavi: “As for Arab footballers playing in Europe I really like Roma’s Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah, Porto’s Algerian player Yacine Brahimi as well as Valencia’s Sofiane Feghouli, who is also Algerian.
“Salah is a super fast player, sometimes his speed is unbelievable. His strength is his amazing speed and charging defenders as soon as he gets possession.”
Hector Cuper: “I like players who are similar to Salah, the type of players who always puts the team first. I can’t ask him for more than what he is already providing for the team. He is a talented, modest and responsible player.”

Luciano Spalletti (his manager at Roma): “Salah is an exceptional player. He is the best player I’ve coached in my career.”
Vincenzo Montella (his manager at Fiorentina): “Who did better out of the Cuadrado exchange? Fiorentina earned a lot of money and, on the pitch, they are similar players. Salah is a player that, even if he takes some breaks, is devastating over 40 or 50 yards.
“I think he can play any position in attack. He attacks the space well and is very good at getting straight into the groove of a game when coming off the bench.”
What’s his injury record like?

Well come on, it matters doesn’t it?

According to transfermarkt.co.uk in the past five years or so, Salah has suffered seven injuries, the worst in 2015-16, an ankle issue that saw him miss five games.

Do we actually need him?

As long as the cost doesn't stop us getting priority targets in priority positions. He strengthens us and provides more depth to the attack so that would be good.

I know transfers don't go in priority order but I'm concerned that we overspend on areas that we are strongest. Plus if we buy him and have to offload someone else, that's not strengthening the squad. It's just a nominal improvement on what we have but without the cover.

Our bench was woefully lacking experience and quality for a lot of the season. That's why we faded.

We missed Mané badly as we didnt have a player like him, and the teams performance and results suffered for it.

Getting a player like Salah would be a great addition to the first team and squad.

We won't be spending £30m on a squad player . I guess this signing solidifies coutinho staying in the deeper position .

I think the prospect of Mane , Firmino and Salah interchanging will be a frightening proposition for most PL sides , he will stretch the pitch , which will only give coutinho and co more space

I'd argue we do need him , we need more goals , we desperately need pace and he's essentially another buffer between Origi and the starting Xi, what's not to like !?

I am really hoping we sign him!

We need attacking pace, we were nowhere near as dangerous without Mane's pace. He is technically a good player fast and scores goals... and some people don't want us to sign him... how very weird....

Damn he's got some acceleration on him... Him and Mane are going to be a handful, also I can see why Klopp likes him as he is a ball winner, constantly harrssing players like firminio and Mane do.

It's cos he has an unsexy name and the world's still reeling off random bomb attacks by people with such names.

Yeah, why should we get excited about quality, goals and pace being added to the side.

Coutinho did get subbed off with a dead leg, so he's deffo leaving.....

Jermaine Pennant... ??

We are fucked season after next in January with the Africa Cup of nations..

Are two most paciest players will be out for a month.. 🙁

Why is AFCON not every 4 years? It is a ridiculous state of affairs.

The 'Official' reason is for football in Africa to catch up with development of it in Europe. Europe organizes tournaments every four years as football is much more developed.

Africa allegedly cannot afford to follow that format noting very well that football as a sport is still growing and the technical aspect of it is yet to reach an enviable position. Football is much more than just kicking a ball.

Constantly hosting the competition, like every 2 years, apparently makes the focus of football to always be on the mind of organizations responsible for improving its play. It is suppose to give every country the opportunity of always improving and not going to 'sleep' until another 4 years.

In a nutshell.. It makes more money, through sponsorship, for CAF to continue to promote and develop the game. Making $10 million every 2 years is far better than making $10million every 4 years.

It is also suppose to increase the rate at which talents will be discovered and shipped overseas for further harnessing.

They should hold it during the European summer. Before anyone mentions heat, most of Africa is hot all year round apart from the parts that hug the Mediterranean coast, and more countries in the Southern half are in their summer season
