Signing an AFCON player because another player will be unavailable due to the same national cup commitment is just so Liverpool.

That isn't why we are buying him, clearly. As many people noted and complained about, Mane was our only source of really electric pace in the side. Imagine having two, pacey, high scoring wide forwards changing flanks and causing mayhem amongst panicking defences. That is why Klopp wants him.

The idea of moving Coutinho back central, and having these two on the wings is very very nice, isn't the problem though that they play on the same wing?

One is right footed (Mane) and one is left footed (Salah). I think the idea must be to move Mane to the left where he will cut in onto his right foot (making him potentially even more dangerous), but I hope to see them swapping flanks unpredictably throughout games, giving defenders a torrid time. Mane has played left wing loads for previous clubs so this is not moving him to a position that he doesn't know or work well in. Salah has also played left wing at various points too.

I presume Mane is going on the left then as he 'can' play there, whereas Salah can only play right wing. Coutinho deeper, and Firmino or someone else as the no.9.

JJ's gonna love that, he's the biggest fan of playing wingers on the wrong wing

Ya got me. 😀 I'm happy to see the front three switching during games but I'm not a fan of playing right-footed attackers on the left (or vice versa) as standard practice, because it compresses play into the centre and doesn't allow quick players to lay chances on for others as much as they should be doing. Why the feck we kept doing it with Sterling for example, when he was nowhere near as effective on the left any time I saw him, I will never understand. Nor am I a fan of tiddling around with players' positions, having had to watch Uncle Roy let a good squad ultimately underperform by thinking he knew better than they did where they should be playing.

Giving him the 9 shirt is basically an admission that no expensive strikers are going to be coming.

Cheap strikers are welcome however.
All three of whom/what?

Sslah, Keita, Van Dijk. Brendan correctly believes that we have no chance of getting them all, but foolishly extrapolates that we will therefore get an expensive striker.

Foolish extrapolation is the same as hope.

I haven't seen him play for Roma but he first same to my attention whilst playing for FC Basle against Chelsea in the CL. I saw both games and he was MOM in both games and played on the left.

If he can play on the left and we can leave Mane on the right, then that'd be awesome.

Maybe we'll go for the spectacular and quite surprising move of playing both on the right wing?

Sky Sports: "Liverpool in their very surprising 4-3-2-0-1, or something, our graphics are fucked. Sorry!"

Both Mane and Salah can also play CF, so there are plenty of possibilities.

No left back and no left wing? Possible that we tried most attacks down left anyway....

The plan is to win all the games till December end. Then send our wingers to AFCON, relax a bit, give other teams a chance to catch their breath, a little bit of hope, make the competition a wee bit interesting and then demolish everyone from Feb onwards.

Mohamed Salah keen for Liverpool number 9 shirt as Reds break transfer record

The Egyptian winger will be a Liverpool player tomorrow in deal worth more than £35m

Mohamed Salah is keen to take the No 9 shirt at Anfield after Liverpool finally reached an agreement with Roma.
The Egypt international is set to become the club’s record signing with the transfer fee, including add-ons, in excess of the £35million the Reds paid Newcastle United for Andy Carroll in 2011.
Salah is scheduled to arrive in the UK later today with a medical expected to take place tomorrow before he pens a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old winger wore No 11 at Roma but that shirt is currently taken at Liverpool by Roberto Firmino.
As a result he has expressed an interest in wearing No 9 - which has been vacant since Christian Benteke left Liverpool for Crystal Palace last summer.
Salah was given the green light to fly to the UK after a breakthrough in protracted negotiations between the two clubs

Liverpool failed in a bid to sign Salah in 2014 when he joined Chelsea from Basel for £12million. They turned their attentions back to him this summer after Julian Brandt decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen.
