Midweek Games - Matchday 24

You know what, I was thinking last night trying to sleep (cos I was so fucking pumped after that result), citeh are like us in a normal season.

We have so often been there or thereabouts, but lost stupid points under pressure when it really counted. Then when it comes time to play the leaders, be it citeh, Chelsea, or Utd, our side turns up & plays out of their fucking skin. Put everything on the line, every player busting a fucking gut to beat them like that's all that matters, leaving us wondering why the fuck they can't put half that effort in every week, & dreaming about how we'll blow everyone away cos the players have finally got that winning mentality back & no one could stop us playing like this, before dropping points at stupid sides again a week or so later.

I watch 24 min highlights of every game

Then clearly you've seen how vulnerable they've looked the last ~2 months in the league? Even the 3-0 win over Huddersfield was a monumental struggle.
I'm not saying we haven't had the same issue, but there's no gulf between the two teams, and Pep struggles - it seems - with Klopp and our team.

Agreed but that was their performance of the season by far against Newcastle

Eh? Since the end of Jan they beat us - which nobody else has done - won 8 games on the bounce, and scored over 30 goals

Fucking "vulnerable"?

TBF mate, they do look vulnerable at the back at times in games, much more so than we have. Stones & Walker have looked unable to cope with a lot of movement & if we had our first pick defenders available they wouldn't get into our side.

That's true. I've said it before, Man C are top heavy, meaning that they exert so much energy into putting teams under pressure that they sometimes lose their concentration and discipline at the back.
Quite evident against Wolves and now Newcastle. Both teams won it through a pen as well.
Last night was a classic Benitez, tactical masterclass. With better player Newcastle would have scored more goals.
Don't forget what Rafa did to the likes of Barca and Real.

Hmm. Newcastle only had two shots on target, one was a penalty and the other was another mistake. In that first half City should have scored two or three at least.
Not sure it was quite a "masterclass", they didn't get into their half for 45 minutes, it was fucking desperate.

Fine, they looked amazing
Heck they beat Huddersfield 3-0 and were dominating!
If you want to look at things black n' white, go for it ... but they've struggled to maintain their killer's instinct in most games.

3-1, 2-1, 7-0, 9-0, 3-0, 3-0, 1-0, 5-0.

That's not struggling.

Hence better players. Newcastle could barely pass it within the team. With the positions Newcastle players took on the pitch they could have exploited Man C on the counter. It's just that their players are shit and every counter was pretty much squandered.

3-1, 2-1, 7-0, 9-0, 3-0, 3-0, 1-0, 5-0.

Glad you didn't read what I posted ("in the league") and the fact that I'm talking about how they look, not the results.
They've played in many of these wins in the last 2 months like they have against Palace, Leicester and Newcastle.

Using this same in-depth analysis of their league form, did you predict they would struggle against Burnley last Saturday, when they won 5-0?

You mean their FA Cup win?
I honestly didn't watch any cup tournaments once we've been knocked out ... but Pep, as has been discussed, used the cup games it seems to generate positive momentum ... Heck, I think even he said he was worried about their form during games - despite results. Granted, what does he know when he says 3-0, 5-0, 9-0 etc etc ...

It's ok Brenners - you can be right here, I know what I've seen the last two months and it's not the same confident team they've been ... and it showed again last night.

No, it showed for the first time last night, because they won all their other games and scored 34 goals

Man city have lost 3 of their last 7 season league games, doesn't matter how good you look , thats not a title-winning run of results.

To be fair it showed against palace and Leicester too

Yeah, but their response to that has been pretty impressive, which was my point.

I'm loathe to see too many weaknesses in a team that's the only one to have beaten us, scored the most goals in the league, and also has the best goal difference.

City surprised me big time last night. For the last 20-30 mins (which was the ones I saw) they tried to og through the middle again and again. Where they often set up neat 1-2's at the flanks and have good movement into the box they made it very easy for Newcastle to defend themselves. Even threw in Jesus and still the midfielders only tried to dribble through the middle. They hardly created anything the last half hour except for a penalty in the wrong end (That one they created themselves).
