He's grown older and come into a faster and stronger league. I believe he also had injury problems in his last couple of seasons at Atletico.
He'll be considered as part of the 'deadwood' very soon unfortunately. It's amazing what an unbelievable conveyor belt we have in that regard.

I was calling for maxi to start ahead of kuyt based on his AM performances, unfortunately based on his 'liverpool' performances he isn't fit to lick kuyt's boots.

Maxi thrives in situations when his team mates are showing good movement. He gets that with the Argies and got it with us towards the end of last season when we started to play some 'decent' football. He doesn't have the required skills (pace or power) to take the game to teams on his own. His is a fine complimentary player but isn't effective when we are playing poorly which is a bad sign. His passing is decent and he is a very intelligent player. He would compliment Gerrard and Torres as he has a fine one touch game but he needs players around him to move into the positions so he can find them. I like Maxi a lot but it is a worry that he needs others around him to be on top form to bring out the best in his own game. Poulsen and Lucas aren't helping things either.
Kuyt is clearly ahead on him in the pecking order and will take the RM slot back on his return from injury.

I don't really get all this Maxi hatred. Admittedly, he was dire yesterday, but he's hardly played this season and was playing in one of the worst midfields in recent history. Once he got settled, he was one of our better players last season. One game where he was only as dire as those around him and suddenly he can't cut it in this league.

Exactly. It does not matter who the fuck it is unless you get a few games you are bound to look a bit rusty

+1. Good technical player. A bit slow for my liking, but I think he still has something to offer us in the short term.
