I'd like to know what Roy has told Gerrard and Cole regarding "selling" his and the clubs plans.

Selling so many of our squad players should get you worried, but both of them seemed impressed by his plans and who he wanted to bring in.

Have to be something going on behind the scenes that we haven't gotten told yet, and it has to involve new owners.

I remember one rumour about 10 players from the first team being placed on the transfer list, so that there would be room for new quality players that would demand a high weekly wage. That almost looks like it's true when you see whats going on..

Ha ha ha! Hansern, you're so optimistic it's just ridiculous! You make khl look like Brendan.

[/quote]

I don't know about that, it just seems odd that we are flogging off all our squad players. If there isn't something going on, then we won't even have 25 names to register for the start of the PL.

Odd? Yes. But it might just as easily be financial meltdown/clearance sale as the imminent prospect of new owners with lots of money. In fact, the former seems much more likely to me.

I'm not about to start believing this silly rumour. I didn't get where I am today by listening to every silly rumour I heard and then believing it.

Depends how many make the step up from the reserves.

Hmmm. This was a little unexpected.

One rather optimstic theory could be that his sale will make room for Pacheco in the squad.

He was a shining light last year selling him would be insane!

Especially if as a loan as it says in that article. Sounds like BS.

True, I'm quite optimistic about new owners and have been for a while, but my fellow forum friends on here are starting to drag me over to the dark side slowly but surely.

Flogging off Riera, Aurelio and Degen are a lot of money saved that would have gone to wages. You can say the same about Plessis, El Zhar and other youngsters that aren't anywhere near the first team.

Maxi, though, is a first teamer I would like to keep as he acutally knows how to play football. So, unless Rafa gave him ridiculous wages ( alledged 90k a week) I'd let him stay.

Damn you Bunny for talking sense, you know that sense isn't allowed on here! 🙂

I haven't been a fan of his to be honest. As Brendan said he's not that different from a lot of our attacking players, slow and goal-shy. I actually think Riera was more effective than Maxi. H

He was playing as well as he can in the lead up to the WC to ensure his place in the squad and team, now that it's over and the coach who signed him is gone, I wonder what will motivate him - he's not exactly known for having a great attitude and work ethic to begin with.

If we get a 5 million for him I'd be chuffed. I reckon he's finished when it comes to being a top club player (if he ever really was one).

He did. Best player and worst song. I couldn't bring myself to sing that rubbish. It was utterly embarrassing at the Burnley game having thousands around me singing the theme to Heartbeat from start to finish. That and all the beauts singing 'going down' to them as well.

He was one of our best players last season, although admittedly that wouldn't have been hard. I also think he was unlucky not to score more than once. He certainly got himself in the right places often enough. His career record of around 1 in 4 would suggest that he's well capable of improving on his goal return if he stays.

Maxi, Riera, Yossi, you can go through and find reasons why all of these aren't good enough, but the fact is we need more creative attacking talent, not less, and we have no money.

We aren't going to end up with better players than these three, by spending next to nothing.

Cole and Jovanovic are already here. One more signing like that and we may have already done it Farky.

I can't see how anyone here can claim Jovanovic is so good. He's nearly 30 and I'd never heard of him before he signed a pre thingy with us.

Disagree with your reasoning. Firstly (i know its not your opinoin, but is the opinion of some) I dont buy all this Pssssssslow is selling players out from under Roy left right and centre - its bollocks. BOLLOCKS. Roy has clearly looked at the attitudes and application of players (and had some preconceived ideas on them) and is weeding them out.

Riera clearly behaved like a cunt last year, and Yossi was flashing his crotchless gusset at Chelski as soon as fat head Carlo said one nice thing about him. Best to get rid of both.

Maxi I would keep, but if Roy thinks that by scrapping 10-15 players and bringing in 4/5 more capable replacements, then he has a better squad balance, Im all for it. If it means i have to put up with spazzes like Poulsen being brought in to give Roy a man in the changing room, then I'll put up with it.

His competition would have been Uncle Albert and an out-of-position Yossi. The bar's not set very high for being better than either.

The departures of Riera, Benayoun (and Insua, for that matter) were quite obviously - and admiited by the OAP himself - absolutely FUCK ALL to do with Old Uncle Roy not wanting them or "weeding them out".

His opinion on any of those three is utterly irrelevant; they were getting sold anyway.

So I'm bemused as to why you used them as examples as to why Old Uncle Roy is "his own man" when in actual fact they point to the EXACT. FUCKING. OPPOSITE.

Perhaps you're right, I had only heard of him before that and have only seen him play at the WC. I think he was injured when we played Standard a few years ago. The point is that I may not know for sure that he'll be better than Benayoun or Maxi or Riera but neither you nor Farky know for sure that he won't.

This is patently not true Brendan, much as your seeming myopia would like it to be so.

Its pretty much a given that the Benayoun deal was in full swing by the time that Roy arrived, but do you truly believe that if he wanted to keep Insua and/or Riera they wouldnt still be with us?

Roy will ahve come in with a list of possible targets, and in turn been handed a list of players for whom interest had been expressed by other clubs - some of those will have been easy decisions, some "wait and sees" and some "fuck lets try and keep them". Roy, seemingly, is working through the got-to-keeps and easy to let goes, and then we'll see what pot he has left.

Purslow it seems is in charge of deciding which players should make the first team squad, who from the reserves is good enough/ isnt good enough to make the step up, player identification and negotiation, sales, ticket prices, stalling the new stadium, tapping up players for Chelsea, and having an input into new owners deals. And all this from a guy who not a couple of weeks ago was getting pilloried for being AWOL on hols. Wow.

No, I think the odds are that if I haven't heard of a player (or can't remember them if I have seen him) by the time they're nearing the end of a career in Europe, given that I watch all the footy that comes on the tele ever, he's probably not that good.

I'm not saying this is a scientific test, but it does seem a fairly reasonable assumption.

Crump, you're "answering" a point that hasn't been made. Nobody's saying Jovanovic is a world-beater, just that he looks more promising than what we had in that position before.

People seem to be posting snippets in different threads (Torres and Mascherano threads). At least I'm assuming that's where these Roy quotes are coming from.

Yea, the amount of promise he has will have an inverse relationship to how many times he plays.

This season is more promising for many on here as well, for the same reason.

Yes, I'm sure poor old Roy the yes man puppet really wanted to keep Insua but that nasty snake Purslow sold him against his wishes.

Instead of praising the Argentine to the media and letting it be known that if the sale wasn't already in the works then he wouldn't have minded keeping him, perhaps Roy should have described Emiliano as the shittest, slowest left back in the league and emphasised how relieved he was to be getting shut of him. Oh, and 5 million pounds please Mr. Italian team owner.
