do you really believe he will improve our attacking play? his decent touch will be an improvment on the ball bouncing off kuyt. but then what is he exactly going to do with the ball. he's slow. he's going to be closed down faster than he's been used to in spain. what are you expecting out of him? all he will do is control the ball and pass it infield to lucas. a few passes later and there'll be a hoof up to torres. wow.

the more important difference is our right winger won't track back as often as kuyt used to. in terms of this season and trying to finish 4th, thats the last thing we need.

While we are desperately lacking in pace in our team, I'm willing to bet that you know fuck all about who he is or what he offers and are just speculating based on one comment that he isn't lightning fast. Am I right?

His goal against us was good where his touch left Carra square, flat footed and out of the game. Nice finish too.

Maxi best do some of that shit for us.

With a decent touch though.
Hopefully he will take Kuyt's RW position
no chance, he's our new Lw! 🙂
Hes played LM for Argentina quite a bit. But hes a RW predominantly. And he can do things that would make Dirk cry.

Im not going to get on Dirks case like most seem to be, because hes been fucking brilliant for us in spells, but he needs resting and like all players he needs to be worried that he wont be starting when saturday comes.
100% true, and I doubt you'll find any rational fan denying that ... But these long stretches where he's average to poor are terrible - especially when as you allude to, he knows he'll be starting no matter what.

That was wishfull thinking.
Yeah surely Rafa will play him at LW which is not his best position.
Our Rafa likes to play players out of position.
Unlike say Fergie who plays Rooney at LM half the time, or Carrick ahead of Evans at CB? Or Nani on the right? Or maybe Wenger who plays Eboue at RB or Van persie at LW or Rosicky at RM? Or maybe Ancelotti who plays Ballack at DM or Lampard at LM?

Grow up Tony for fuck sake.
Some players are more versatile than others and ManU had a major injury crisis. Carrick is a far better player than Evans, Id pick him ahead of Insua at LB if he was playing for us. Samewith Rooney.
Playing Yossi at LW is criminal, yet Rafa keeps making this mistake.

We have no clue what Rafa is going to do with Maxi Rodriguez.
Im just making suggestions.

If Kuyt is getting moved or dropped, Yossi deserves a go at RW as he's generally been very good there. Maxi can play off Torres.

I think Rafa will drop Benayoun not Kuyt.

i know who he was. i remember his debut in spain when he had a hair cut like lucas. but he's 29 now. he's never played in england. he's had a serious ligament injury. he's not played so many games lately. i get the feeling if we didn't buy him he was headed back to argentina to see out his career.

am i right that you say "not lightening fast" in the hope that he may be just "fast"? if he isn't considered fast in the spanish league then it can only be worse here.

You use versatility as an argument for other teams deploying players out of position yet say Yossi at LW is criminal. I'm not advocating Yossi at LW at all but he is versatile enough to play there if needed. He is one of the most versatile players in the team bar Gerrard.

He isn't really. For a start, his goal-scoring record is vastly superior to Riera's. And he's not really a 'winger' either.

I meant that he's really slow, has never been transferred for any large amount of money, and has never played for a big club.

Plus he will play on the wings for us.

From seeing him play. He's slow.

Like Insua is slow. Like Lucas is slow. Like Kuyt is slow. Like Riera is slow. Like Aquilani is slow.

Slow.

But he's terrible there - I don't think I remember a good game of his on the left ... There is versatility (say Kuyt at ST or RW, or Gerrard everywhere) that can be taken advantage of when needed, but this is a weak point of Yossi's ...

With a decent touch though.
Hopefully he will take Kuyt's RW position
no chance, he's our new Lw! 🙂

You use versatility as an argument for other teams deploying players out of position yet say Yossi at LW is criminal. I'm not advocating Yossi at LW at all but he is versatile enough to play there if needed. He is one of the most versatile players in the team bar Gerrard.
I disagree but that has nothing to do with Maxi 😉
Throughout his career, from Santander to captaining Israel, he has played on either wing, as a striker, as a second striker and I'm sure he have played in CM for a short spell. To say LW is his worst position for us is correct. To say he isn't versatile is clearly incorrect.

Anyways back to Maxi.......

Where has the 'really slow' tag come from?
From seeing him play. He's slow.

Like Insua is slow. Like Lucas is slow. Like Kuyt is slow. Like Riera is slow. Like Aquilani is slow.

Slow.
Xavi isn't the fastest either is he? Or Iniesta?

That said I don't see Maxi as beeing particularly slow, and as he's got a splendid touch it's not that vital anyways.

But he's terrible there - I don't think I remember a good game of his on the left ... There is versatility (say Kuyt at ST or RW, or Gerrard everywhere) that can be taken advantage of when needed, but this is a weak point of Yossi's ...
I agree, he is poor on the left. I didn't for a minute advocate playing here there. But as a player he would be deemed versatile in my book. RW or in the hole are obviously his best positions.

I've watched him play a good few times and his lack of pace didn't stand out. Hope he isn't as slow as Insua. Don't put that evil on him Brendan.

Can't we just be excited we've signed an exciting player for a very decent price?
Cheer up for fucks sake.
