It looks like this is just Mascherano asking for more money. If that's the case he will probably get it and this will blow over.

If there is anymore to it and he really does want to go then fine, that's up to him. He's an important player in our system but there are other good players out there and other systems to adopt.

One thing though, I haven't seen his family mentioned in any of the press reports? All I read is that he wants to play for Barca?

I doubt anyone wants to see Mascherano leave. Would the following scenario be a possibility:

Rafa doesnt want to sell but realises that, because of family reasons, Mascher wants to leave.
Barca make a £45 million bid and Rafa reluctantly accepts.
Now he needs a replacement. He could take toure as part of a player plus cash deal or he could spend 25-30 million on someone else.
Or maybe hes looking at his own squad and is thinking that a young liverpudlian by the name of Spearing, with similar characteristics to Mascherano, deserves his chance and just might step up to the plate.
This way he'll save a shit load of money that could be spent on someone else (Villa).

Just something i've been thinking about. Any thoughts?
 
ok well saint george.. if u think they are nothing alike... then how about we sell them mascher for eto'o + 20mil and use 10-15mil on cana from marseille. 5mil left over for a Left winger =] perfect everyone is happy. is that better than 12mil for martinez?

or we can do that and have 5mil left over and give it to athletico + lucas for martinez. everyone is happy then ;D

I can't see Rafa handing Spearing the Masher mantle just like that, given he's hardly had a sniff for the last couple of years despite consistently being the main man in the reserves.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see the lad given his chance (and am sure he'd take it) but in a season staring with a genuine belief that we can win the title Rafa would (rightly) ensure we have a proven talent in Masher's position.

I could see Rafa taking Gattuso on the cheap though as a replacement.

No idea who Brendan is sorry. Am I being serious? I believe so. I know Lucas has his detractors but he's not going anywhere so Rafa must have plans for him. And if Barca do come in with a monster (excuse the pun) bid for Masch perhaps Lucas is the answer. Just putting it out there for debate. I thin next season will be Lucas's last chance to prove something.
