As the name suggest, he has a point when you do the math. The effect upon your ego comes both from you winning and from other people losing. If the losers were already shit, then it diminishes the effect. A bit like how you would resist using the championship manager database editor to deify Robbie Fowler, rendering the game into a boring procession of victory after victory.
