will put pen to paper on a new 3,5 year deal in the next few days.

Would be interesting to see him as a centre back now that Carra is out injured. Definetly a future first teamer, good to see us giving him a long term contract.

Good. Think he's going to be a good player for us. Solid and dependable and will only improve.

Yeah, I love Kelly, I think he's great.

I'd put him on my shirt if I could be arsed buying one.

Great News, he can (and has) play in any slot along the back.

If Roy had had a little more faith in our youngsters, Martin would have had a few more games under his belt already this season.

Its not Rocket Science to see he is a better option on the Right than Carra for example.

Or Agger on the Left.

The good thing about him though, is neither of those slots are his preferred position 🙂

Where did you hear or read about this mate?

The Guardian and Liverpool.no mate. Apperantly the negotiations started a while ago.

Negotiation started since summer and dragged over a few months cos of changes in boardroom and management.

More detailed interview from 3 min stream here:

"Since I was first able to kick a football, all I've wanted to do to is play for Liverpool," Kelly told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"I need to keep pushing and progressing now I've got the contract. The hard work starts now to try to make a name for myself in the team."

"I've been at Liverpool since I was seven, and the feeling I'm getting playing for Liverpool and getting the chances I'm getting - I don't want it to stop."

"We didn't need that at this time of the year," he said. "Jamie is our best defender and he's the one who brings our team forward and he tells everyone on the pitch what they're doing and he's going to be a massive loss.

"If the boss needs me to fill in any position along the back four then hopefully I can do that.

"I've got to take the chances I get and just hope Jamie gets back as soon as possible as we'll miss him."

I remember comments like these from Gerrard in the late 90's.
Fantastic stuff, may he have a long career with us and may the seed of his loin be fruitful in the belly of his woman.

There's an awful lot to like about Kelly.

Solid, dependable, hard-working, good footballer, seems like a decent lad. Exactly the sort of player Liverpool *should* have, and should be building our defence around in the years to come.

Good stuff.

I like how Kelly imposes himself in matches. Darby had a habit of trying to keep his head down and get through the 90mins without fucking up. Kelly has confidence in his ability to try impact the game. Breath of fesh air for a player coming through the ranks.

cf. Chelsea game.
