Marko the turkey

Good move for him - competitive footy, euro footy (I think) and the opportunity to get his confidence back. I think we'll end up selling him next year ... which is a pity as there is a football player there.

[article=http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/markovic-set-leave-liverpool-fc-9942931]Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic is set to sign for Fenerbahce on a season-long loan.

The 21-year-old Serbian international has flown to Istanbul to hold talks with the Turkish Super League outfit.

An agreement is in place between the two clubs with Fenerbahce agreeing to pay 100% of his wages. Markovic will join a squad which includes former Reds midfielder Raul Meireles, as well as ex-Manchester United duo Robin van Persie and Nani.

Markovic has struggled to hold down a place at Anfield since his £20million move from Benfica a year ago. He made just 11 Premier League starts last season and found himself down the pecking order this summer.

He didn’t feature in the matchday squad for any of Liverpool’s opening three league matches this term and Brendan Rodgers has taken the decision to send him out on loan.

Rodgers still views Markovic as part of his long-term plans but believes his development would be best served getting regular first-team football in Turkey rather than staying as a fringe player at Anfield.

The Reds boss hopes a successful year with Fenerbahce will lead to Markovic returning to Liverpool next summer and belatedly establishing himself at the club.

Markovic was at Melwood on Thursday before being informed that a deal was close to being agreed with Fenerbahce.

As long as his discussions with the Turkish club go well, his loan switch will be confirmed and he could make his debut against Antalyaspor on Sunday.[/article]

Good move for him. Hopefully he does well and can establish himself in the first team next season.
Young kid so lets not write him off to early. Talented player, shame we bought both him and Lallana.

I'm not giving up on him - but it will be a struggle for him to establish himself with us ... but hey, rooting for the kid neways.

He has got talent so the problem lies somewhere else, if it's that he's a bit of a fanny then will Turkey be the best place to loan him?

He does seem to be a million miles away from the first team at the moment though, not ideal for him.

This is ok.
Right?
This is what Chelsea do. We loan him till hes good, if hes good enough for us GREAT, if not we sell for 30m
Its ok.

They pimp the ones that come good out to Holland, Germany and Spain don't they. Players go to Turkey to retire.

If we must have that turkey I'll much rather Marko than Lucas. Hope someone will be crazy enough to pay 10million for him next season.

From the outside it seems like a case of talent not translating to this league.

But i have a feeling he really was not given a fair chance to prove one way or other. He has shown fleeting moments of genious and yet we have chosen to discard him without giving him a fair chance? I havr not even read anywhere that his attitude is poor in training.

It feels like Rodgers is trying to distance himself from last season...two of the more prominent signings are out the door. Markovic is afforded no patience yet Lovren is indulged and we are seemingly reaping the rewards for doing just that...

I wish we could have loaned him out in the premier league.
We'll probably get back the same player next year. Doubt he'll toughen up.

Allen injured and Markovic out on loan means Teixeira's chances of starting in the cup games has been given yet another boost, assuming he doesn't go out on loan. If that is the nett result, I'm fine with Markovic going out to play for a season elsewhere. I'd really like to see Teixeira get a chance to show what he can do for us.

Yes. Teixeira is the silver lining here. But I agree with kingjulian that Markovic hasn't had a fair chance at Anfield.

I think a big part of the problem during his time here was his grasp of the English language.

They don't speak much English there in Turkey do they ? He's gonna come back more confused.

Apparently the word 'sick' in Turkish means *uck in English. 'Um' = *unt. 'Peach' = Bastard.

So imagine if returns to play for us and he makes a great pass, and everyone runs to him to congratulate him - 'Marko, that was sick yo !'

He'd have thought they were cursing him. 'Marko, that was a peach !'......In Marko's shattered fragile mind, 'Marko you bastard !'

Milner - 'Um, Marko, that was a peach of a sick pass!'
Poor Marko's mind - '*unt Marko ! You bastard ! *uck !!'

He's gonna break down crying the poor lad.

Don't think he will ever make it with us. Would have preferred a loan in the Premiership, i assume the move to Turkey is about his wages rather than football reasons. Fully expect he will be sold to a club in Spain or Portugal next summer at a massive loss.

That's him finished with us then. What a clusterfuck with the Suarez money, Balotelli, Lambert, lazar, manquillo all gone inside 12 months. Lallana, lovren, origi, the jury still out on.

Yet another player not even getting a fair chance. I wonder how many months it is since Rodgers talked to him? Rodgers methods stinks. If he freeze out a player then he isn't even talking to him. How big chance is it for a player to improve and get better if the manager isn't talking to him?

Yup, hard to be enthused about this move.

It's good that he's gone on loan at least though.

What a waste of money.

Investing in potential without any plan or patience for the investment to come through. Astonishingly bad judgement all around and it shows how dysfunctional our "transfer committee" system really is.

Now the interest in Mkhitaryan starts to make sense to me – I knew he couldn't possibly keep Markovic AND buy Mkhitaryan, but I just couldn't bring myself to believe that they can give up on a clearly talented £20M player after just one season.

What? Who said he isn't talking to him? What method stinks? He was pretty poor last season, aside from a couple of decent games, he looked nothing like the playmaker he was talked up to be. He gets to play and we don't waste the lads talent by keeping him in the stands or on the bench. He clearly wasn't bought by the manager, doesn't fit and has better players ahead of him, ergo it's the best move all round.

Not ideal for us as we spunked £20m on him, but that's why there's no longer a committee and why we're currently watching new players integrate into the team and perform straight away.
