Manquillo

I remember calling him Wanquillo after watching one awful performance.

He didn't strike me as particulalry good yet. And it was because him and Moreno were so bad that we stopped playing a back four - making him redundant effectively

[article=http://en.clubatleticodemadrid.com/noticias/manquillo-will-not-stay-with-liverpool]Javier Manquillo will not fulfil his second season on loan with Liverpool. The player and Atlético de Madrid decided that the winger from Madrid would go to Anfield’s club for two seasons to enjoy the necessary minutes to continue growing football-wise. However, in this first season with the 'Reds', the defender has not had all the minutes he and our club consider necessary for that purpose of accumulating experiences in his sports growth, so by mutual consent, it has been decided that he will not follow under the discipline of the English team.

Manquillo will not join the red and white pre-season and will decide in the next few days his destination for this second year on loan between the different offers he manages and which have the approval of our Club.[/article]

Bit of an odd one this, he looked decent, maybe he just didn't settle.

That's possible of course, but I wonder if it might be down to our general defensive confusion. He's very much a fullback as opposed to a wingback, and we never really sorted out how we want to set ourselves up at the back all season. I liked him and hope things work out for him in the future.

[article=http://as.com/diarioas/2015/07/14/english/1436855930_397298.html]Roma want Javier Manquillo and, at this time, the conversations between the Serie A club and Atlético Madrid are going well and and it looks like the right-back could spent next season on loan in Italy. Those are the terms being discussed now, as the player himself has given priority to this option ahead of the whole range that have been presented to him. In Spain, Getafe, Rayo Vallecano and Granada had asked to take him on loan from Atleti, but Manquillo wants to continue testing himself beyond Spain's borders. He had a good first half of the season at Liverpool last term, but Brendan Rodgers changed his system in the New Year and Manquillo disappeared from the starting XI.

The Merseyside club decided to liberate the right-back from the second year of his loan deal a few days ago and now it’s Rudi Garcia, Roma’s French coach, who is doing more than anyone to ensure that the defender, for the second year in a row, will be able to play in the Champions League. Manquillo has other proposals from Italy and England, but he has cast all of them aside for Roma, although there are still some details that need to be discussed. For example, the Italian club would like to include an option to buy the full-back in the loan contract. If everything goes well, they would want to have the possibility of keeping the footballer, but neither do Atlético have the intention of definitively parting ways with him. They could also include a buyback option, in that case.[/article]
