Manchester United v Liverpool Match Thread

I'm sick of the same discussion with the same players. Henderson is fine, but he just doesn't have the technical ability we need in a game like this. Keita has more in his locker in that respect but his general level has been below Henderson by some distance, and if we're showing fucking breakdowns about how he made a pretty simple pass into space, it says it all. Like oh my god how did he even see that pass under zero pressure, he really fucked them with his eyes.....................................

Man U were compact, and our team is shit at making space. It's much better at using it. It's been the case for a while now.

We spent all our money to stay in the same place. Hopefully it'll be enough! I wouldn't bet on it.
So the one time someone highlights how Keita did in fact make space you berate him for it ? OK.

Rashford had a great chance in the second as did Fred and Rashford wasted another great chance in the first half.
That is a real stretch to consider any of those great chances. It would have been an incredible goal had Rashford gone for the far post not the near post and in his other he was a bit far out and Alisson easily had it covered even if it did whistle past the post. Fred's was no more than a half chance at best.

“Doesn’t help himself” with regards to what? What has he lost?

He made the point he wanted to on VAR, put a little shot in against Utd being negative against us for seasons now, and balanced it all off by saying else didn’t like our performance in the first half. The headlines are all about VAR and “did Utd park the bus” and not about the utter wank we served up in the 1st Half. Job done from his perspective.
If anyone watches the interview as a whole, and not just the media headlines, I think they'll fiind, as I found, it was actually quite a balanced and honest interview, which I hadn't been expecting.

I'm not sure I'm berating anyone. I'm saying there's a reason that we're seeing every touch from Keita videos, and discussions of little things he has done. It isn't because he had a brilliant performance or did anything incredible. It's because he's a remaining unknown, that in the best case scenario could help out a midfield that hasn't had all the solutions, for years now. So we're hoping. All his best play before he arrived here was in space, on the run. Maybe he'll show a lot more in these compact situations. I'm just trying to be a little realistic. He played well. I would need to see a lot more, I had very high hopes for him as a player, and I know exactly what everyone else can and cannot do.

If I write what I really thought of certain players especially one with a special responsibility on the pitch, I'd probably get banned again.
I really can't see why people are even trying to defend him after yesterday.
Fucking hell. Every time the stakes are high this mother* goes and fucking hides. Every fucking time

Well sounds like every Media outlet agrees with me or else it’s just spin as you put it. Or maybe you are the one talking out of your arse.

Thats because they, like you, got a hard on everytime the crowd lifted when Rashford or James got to chase a long ball out in the channels, despite the fact they did very little with it. We had more possession, more shots both on and off target, and we scored the only goal of the game that should have been allowed to stand, yet you and your media buddies are acting like United deserved a win because they bothered to put up a fight, run onto a few long balls, and didn't capitulate yet again.

Hides? I disagree.

Just doesn't have the technical ability to deal with breaking through a low sitting block.

The fact it takes him an extra touch or second to control a football is MASSIVE against teams that park the bus. The only thing he can do is make runs off the ball to create space for the technicians, but often United/teams will encourage the ball to go into him, knowing he's a lesser threat than a Firmino picking up the ball, or a Mane.

I mean "hides" as in he doesn't raise his game to the occasion.

So you think Liverpool deserved to win?

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Agree. He didn't hide. He was just poor. But he kept asking for the ball and tried finding some space to use it.

Is there a way we can block Modo from writing about Henderson?

To be honest, I skip by any posts that bore me, they don't bother me at all. I don't understand why he feels the need to rabbit on about it.

Yeah, I don't anyone thinks we deserved to win, but there have been many games this season and last that we haven't played well in and won.

Of course there is no guarantees that the game wouldn't have played out to be a 0-0 or indeed a 1-0 to United had they not been gifted that goal in the first half (and general decisions throughout). They may have actually scored later in the game and won, who knows.

However, from my experience watching us under Klopp, i'd have put my money on us wearing them down late still and grabbing a 1-0 scrappy win like we did away to Sheffield United.

The way the game changed character I think we would have won with 5-10 mins more.

On a side note, we could've gotten 1 point out of 6 had we not scored late on vs Leicester and nicked the late equalizer yesterday. As much as it's nice to grab vital points despite not putting in our best performances, hopefully our play will improve and we 'make things easier' for ourselves with the games coming up thick and fast.

It panned out pretty much as I expected. 100 miles an hour start that we got sucked into including misplacing passes frequently. We played their game style, and badly, we couldn't even win a second ball.

I didn't expect any favours from the referee and that duly happened as well.

With the benefit of hindsight we would have fielded the reserves earlier and I think we might well have scored again.

Still a late equaliser was deserved if frustrating.

One bonus is we've managed to keep Ole at the wheel for another month or two though.

I think things would be easier if we start rotating the midfield more and have a bit more creativity.

If we are being real, our most balanced midfield will/should be:

Fabinho
+ a worker (Gini/Hendo)
+ a dribber/technical player (Ox/Keita)

Milner is a mixture of both.

Lallana and ox will never be good enough to be the answer or consistent enough but they offer so much more than what captain Jordan Henderson offers going forwards or just in possession , it's crazy
Midfield inadequacies combined with firmino just not being a no9 are what cost us 3 points yesterday , you'd imagine salah drifting centrally and taking those firmino chances probably scores and you'd also think keita /milner/ox starting with Gini and fab would've offered soooooooo much more

Gini is our most complete midfielder by some distance , without a doubt Gini and Fabinho have to play

You are right, but we have been a little dampened by injuries to the technical ones (incl Lallana). So the midfield has forced itself a few times. Hopefully we will see more fresh legs coming into that department the next few weeks.

Maybe, but I think it's also very clear that Klopp has a preferred default formation and a preferred midfield type of player.
And Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner and Fabinho are it

That's fair enough when our front 3 are creating chances as well as our full backs.

But when our FBs are nullified and our front 3 aren't all there or are off form, we need something creative from the 3 in the midfield.

Which means Ox, Keita or Lallana should be getting some time.

For what it is worth, the brand of football from ManU was still the same turgid style (apart for the first half hour up until they scored) as Jose which got him sacked! So what the difference? Hahaha. OGS becomes the best tactician just to park the bus and stop us from winning. They didn't win either.

Oh absolutely, and I think Klopp knows it (hence buying Keita, Ox and trying to buy Fekir).

But I also think that it doesn't take much for him to think "nope" and revert to type, if anyone doesn't do the required hard yards and defensive work, or the formation looks a bit too loose.

There isn't really much difference, no.

Haha, yeah. One guy I regularly bump into at the gym who's a Manc fan was giving it large this morning. You'd have thought they'd won the Cup Final.

Come to think of it though, that probably *was* this season's Cup Final for them.
