Oh do fuck off with that revisionist crap.

At the start of the season he was boss too, he had a long bad spell before this lay off, but that doesn't change his form at the start of the season.

Anyway, it's irrelevant why or whether you rate him or not, if he continues to play like this then he'll be worth his weight in gold in this run in, that's two stellar performances, I've watched both matches repeatedly (three times to be exact) & his contribution was immense.

He may be playing for a contract, Real may actually be sniffing around. I don't give a fuck why, I'm just glad, cos we've effectively added a 25m right back, that can defend & attack better than any other full back we have who suits our team perfectly, to a side that's already flying.

Get you!, you sound like a women scorned there FFF.

It was mean't to be a bit of humour with the dollar/yen thing, looks like it was a fail, oh well.

Also if my opinion on him is irrelevant how come it has relevance to you?

Brendan Rodgers is on a mission to keep Glen Johnson at Anfield as the Liverpool FC boss insisted: “He’s one of the best full-backs in the world.”

The England international’s future is uncertain as he has just one year left on his contract.
However, Rodgers has revealed that talks over a new deal will take place this summer and the manager is hopeful an agreement can be reached.

Johnson has been hampered by injuries this season but was back to his best in Saturday’s stunning 6-3 triumph over Cardiff City.

“We want to keep Glen here,” Rodgers told the ECHO.

There is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form. He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him.

“No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.”

Johnson is one of the club’s top earners on around £110,000 per week but he turns 30 in August and it’s highly unlikely the Reds would be prepared to match those terms.

Whether the defender would be willing to accept a pay cut is also doubtful and Liverpool won’t want to run the risk of losing him for nothing in 2015.

Asked if Johnson’s age – coupled with his current salary – was likely to make discussions problematic, Rodgers said: “It just means you just have to sit, debate and discuss what’s best for the club and the player.

“The beauty of this is we want to keep Glen and Glen loves it here. We just need to find a solution which is good for both.

“If we can do that then the club will have a very good player for years to come.

“We have other players like young Jon Flanagan who only has one year left, while Jordan Henderson only has two years left. They have been great and we want to look at those contracts.

“That’s something that will be for the summer. The players can do themselves no harm by continuing to play in the form they are in. The club will then take a close look at it.”

Rodgers believes Johnson’s performances for the title-chasing Reds in recent weeks have vindicated the decision to take him out of the firing line back in January.

The former Chelsea right-back missed six matches as he rested niggling ankle and groin injuries, which had hampered his form since the early stages of the campaign.

Johnson shone against Cardiff and Rodgers is looking for more of the same against Sunderland at Anfield tomorrow night.

“It’s been really difficult for Glen because he has wanted to give so much more,” Rodgers said.

“He has wanted to put himself out on the training pitch every day and play games but he was nowhere near 100% right. Of course when you put yourself out there you are getting judged.

“That is why we had to give him that time out. There was no timeline on it. I just knew there was so much more to come from him.

“We needed to come together to find a way to get him back to his best. That meant taking him out in order for him to get back to that level.

“Now he’s feeling fresh and playing for the first time in ages without any injuries. Now you see that mobility and running power that he has.

“I thought Glen was outstanding against Cardiff. He showed his strength and power for Daniel Sturridge’s goal with how he executed that pass for Luis (Suarez).

“For our first goal, it was all about his running power without the ball and he put in a great cross for Luis.

“It’s important for me with how we play that the full-backs can get up, join in and make runs in behind. We are seeing now the player we all know Liverpool had – which is one of the best full-backs in the world.”

when he's on form he is, the issue has always been his consistency and lapses in concentration. It's not revisionist, it's a well documented, fair criticism.

To me, it would be ideal if he got something like a basic 80k per week contract, with an added fee of say 30k per game played.
It would mean if in a couple of years down the line another player outperformed him, we'd have a very experienced, capable player helping the squad out and something like 80k per week should be acceptable to a club out size if our aspiration is to continue to stay at the top and in the CL every season.
Certainly better than in the past when we had the likes of Downing, Carroll, Degen, etc on those kinds of wages.

I was always a huge Johnson fan but that mid season slump had me tearing my hair out. There was a few games around Christmas when we would have been better off with ten players. He was lazy, indulgent, disinterested, etc etc. However, the news of the niggling injuries has forced me into giving him a pass. He is back now firing on all cylinders. I can see him having a strong finish to the season for us.

Johnson should be one of those on a variable weekly pay contract. Give him 3 years but each week, he'll be paid according to his performance level by fan voting, as tabulated by Morse. If he gets into the top three MOTM places, he gets 120K for that week. Failing that, or if he's injured/suspended, he gets a base pay of 60K.

The only problem is that the results usually come out a bit late, so he'll have to put up with some backdated payments.

He was dire yesterday again. Constantly gave the ball away and looked low on confidence again, inexplicably after a few good games (where everyone was handing him a new contract).

It's not really a myth is it, that he's inconsistent? When he's good he's good, but the spells don't last nearly long enough before he slumps into the shadows. Maybe it's psychological, but the end result is the same.

I don't think he was quite as bad as you made out yesterday. He was bobbins in attack with almost Pennant in the CL esque wastefulness but in other areas he was okay.

An annoying performance though, no doubt.

I don't know, when he gave away that soft freekick that nearly led to a second goal for them, Danny Mills had it bang on, he said if he was Rodgers he would be livid - an experienced International right back who should just be seeing out the game and getting rid of the ball, and he's giving away needless freekicks. His forward play was disastrous.

Yeh, that freekick pissed me off, although it was light one, he should have never given the ref an excuse. He wasn't that bad though, I just think the way Sunderland lined up nullified our fullbacks attacking potential, Flannagan didn't have a particularly effective game either.

Heh, love how Ken can't let a month go by without shoe-horning in 'Pennants CL Final performance' somewhere!

I don't think Johnson was all that bad yesterday. At times, when we were under pressure in the 2nd half, he made some very good, calm decisions with the ball – finding a safe outlet with a pass when it was much easier to just boot the ball upfield. For me he wasn't as effective as last 2 games, but still a lot better than his mid-season form.

it's a bit strange that we're 2nd in the league, won a game and the usual posters come out you finger Magic and call him dire/disastrous? Flanno struggle badly in the previous game and was partly responsible for the goal, but no mention.

next time let's lose a game first before bringing out the johnson agendas.

What pissed me off most about Glenjo last night was that he was up against that fat useless cunt Dossena, and didn't bother going at or past him once. I can't think of a shitter, slower full-back in the league than Dossena, and Glenjo had free reign to tae the cunt out of him and did nothing.

Speaking of which - Dossena's defending for Sturridge's goal last night. Have a look at it. Deary fucking me.

Who's fingering who?

I thought he was pretty decent, the freekick was just very silly though and unacceptabel for a RB of his experience and but at that period we were all very ragged and making silly decisions all over. It's very interesting Flanno was a lot worse and has been dodgy for at least 4 out of the last 5 games I can remmeber, I would even go as far as to say bring Cissokho back to steady the ship at the back but seems keeping with Agenda is more fun,

The expectations from Flanno are much less, he is a kid who has just broken into the first team and is punching above his weight and holding his head above water. His performance levels are certain to drop, and it's important we deal with that properly.
The agenda is that Johnson is approaching his 30's, in the prime of his career, a very experienced international footballer and one of the players paid in the higher bracket of wages. Naturally he has a higher level of expectation in relation to his performance, decision making, and attitude as a leader in the dressing room. His reputation allows for more criticism, and he deserves it at times. Flanno does not as of yet, so people should look elsewhere for a scapegoat. Fucking pricks comparing the two players............ Pathetic.

Flanno is inexperienced but 21 and fb so people are comparing based on the the FB position. Both are playing for a big club, who hopefully in CL, at a high level the point both have to be based whether they are good enough and wouldn't a give a pass on age. At the end of the day if someone is not performing then age is a factor but there's also plenty of decent players around the world at 19, so matter should really stick whether they are good enough and be focussed based on that.
Both will are due for contract renewals, still worth a decent discussion without getting angry, people get so worked up about this. It's a fcking forum...
Anyway, no need for scapegoats, they are so unfashionable.

Flanno might be a young player but being caught ball watching isnt good enough.
Yes, Agger and Skrtel should have delt with it but you cant make such a mistake in the run in.
Did the exact same thing vs Sunderland 2 years ago aswell..
Need to learn.

As for Magic, meh. Some decent defensive involvements but his attacking play was shocking.
That push for their late free kick was also awful. Their player obvs made a meal of it, but when you got your hands raised the ref will give a free kick. Certainly one as shite as Friend.

That free kick was avoidable. If Johnson gets a touch on that ball and puts it out for a corner though, the result is similar and no one here would have mentioned it.

It's understandable that due to our nerves at that point in the match it was a frustrating FK to concede, but I think a lot of you are letting that cloud your opinion on Johnson's overall performance.

I didn't think Flanagan had a bad game at all.

Couple of mistakes but no more than anyone else. Suarez made plenty of mistakes

I feel like a constant Johnson apologist!

However, you've all missed something pretty important.

He's just back from some mystery illness/injury/injuries/mental issue (we don't know what it is, I guess a combination of small niggles & a subsequent mental issue brought on by them), has played two brilliant games back to back, & 4 day later plays again.

So he looks fucked. He probably is. It takes Lucas about 6 months to get to form once he's been out yet for the first 6 weeks people make apologies for him.

Cos Johnson hasn't had an injury that we can see we've all just taken for granted he's back to full form & fitness.

That's not fair, even 'match fitness' takes most players a while, this lad fell straight into world class form two games on the bounce without an adjustment period at 30 years old.

Let's take a step back & try to be fair, eh?
