Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has ruled out the chance of more signings this summer.
That should be music to the ears of
Liverpool fans who would have been petrified at the possibility of striker
Luis Suarez moving to Spain, making the chances that he’ll stay at Anfield much stronger.
Ancelotti has also suggested that the club will not be letting striker Gonzalo Higuain leave this summer, which decreases the need for the Spanish club to go after a high profile striker who would subsequently replace the Argentine.
“I think in general the atmosphere among the squad is good. I cannot talk about players who are not Madrid's,” said the Italian.
Real Madrid’s recent history has also suggested that when there is a player they want, they aggressively go after that player until they are able to force a transfer or until they have exhausted all avenues.
The fact that is not the case with regards to Suarez makes it less likely that he’ll end up in the Spanish capital before the end of the current transfer window.
“I have spoken with Gonzalo and I think it is a private conversation. Today, Higuain is a Madrid player - I am happy he is here and that is that,” he added.
Liverpool are always going to be a better team with Suarez in the side and in the squad and it’s very important for their chances of making the top four next season that he stays put and stays happy.
Ancelotti’s initial impression of the Real Madrid squad appears to be very positive, which means he doesn’t have to go and make several changes to balance the side out or to bring various sections of the squad closer together. Had he gone in to Real Madrid and found a squad at odds with each other in certain places, that may have forced him into axing one or two individuals which would have then increased the need to go and buy Suarez from Liverpool. The fact that’s not happened is beneficial for Liverpool because there isn’t that pressure on Ancelotti to make changes.
The fact Higuain looks like he’s going to stay at Real Madrid does make a club like Arsenal more likely to go after someone like Suarez, who the Gunners have already tried to sign, but Liverpool retain all of the power. Higuain’s future at Real Madrid could still change, not because the club want to sell him or the he wants to leave, but through necessity.
Real Madrid could still go after someone like Zlatan Ibrahimovic of Paris Saint-Germain, who would threaten Higuain’s position in the side and if he does eventually become available, that’s another factor which would keep Suarez at Anfield.
