It keeps multiple luggage a together. Means you only wait for 1 thing when collecting.

We always split our stuff so we've each got some basics in each case just in case one or more goes missing.
It is.... it's a deterrent against people sticking drugs in your bag and using it as a drugs mule, to ship said drugs between countries. By people... I mean baggage handlers.
Basically..., they tend to execute you if they find drugs in your bags in Asia.
wrapping your bags in cling film took off in Australia about 10 years ago after and Aussie girl travelling to Indonesia got caught with 4kg of grass in her bag and got sentenced to 20 years. She claimed someone had planted it in her bag.
