Fucking fair play to all concerned regarding this deal. It really was beautifully played. Here’s what I heard. He was scouted and not tapped up as far back as late 2020. Respect was shown to Porto throughout with early tentative approaches by Edwards before we even drew Porto in The CL. Then when we did eventually play them it was clear they were going to sell because the financial shit mire Porto were in. Lots more respect and a verbal agreement was reached after the 1st Game. Something about the bonus add ons were appealing to the Porto hierarchy and the way the deal was structured was designed to portray Porto’s FFP situation in a more favourable light. Levy and Co probably knew this (or most of it) but thought they could submit a bid slightly higher then the 37mill touted. Thing was Liverpool were always a step ahead and the fucking moron Tottenham crew fell for it. It’s not surprising that Levy is spitting hellfire and brimstone. He and his team have made to look like a bunch of dithering amateurs. Reds did nothing wrong and all parties are happy….. Well apart from Levy of course 😀

Slightly different to what's been reported elsewhere.

Which is we kept an open dialogue with Porto since we sold Grujic.

Porto asked us to defer a payment on that deal, which we said yes to and enquired about Diaz.

Porto wanted too much, but we asked Porto to let us know of any bids they accept so we could at least match.

Porto asked for €8m up front immediately, which we accepted.

Sounds more plausible than your yoga teachers version of events.

I have a good feeling about this signing, I can't quite place my finger on why, just have a feeling.

All of that is probably true. What I was told was that Porto were impressed with the way Liverpool went about things. The Grujic thing must have been that very thing. That and the open and respectful way they conducted themselves. No snidely tapping up or agent/media manipulation etc. Anyway all is good. He’s ours and he’s mint. 🙂

Everyone got so used to not signing anyone that they're delighted with this middling at best business.

Bravo FSG

You may be right about the first part as there are no sceptics about this signing on here and we had those for Mane and Mo.

This signing isn’t that dissimilar to Mo, Mane and Jota in terms of profile though.

Good club to strike up a good relationship like this with.

Definitely. I have to say, Portuguese clubs are currently producing and nurturing a good generation of talents (both Portuguese and foreign); I used to be skeptical of signing players from there, but now it’s one of the most promising markets and Porto is probably the best-run club in Portugal despite that unexpected money issue.

This is the Colombian journalist who originally broke the story and had the most up-to-date coverage anywhere. Best Colombian player of all time? That would be pretty awesome, hope he is proven right.

Didn't really turn out that well for Ryan Gauld
