Ludicrous Rumours

Considering last night's result it's important we now spunk huge amounts of money on superstars in fairly short order.

Thats what United did last summer and the summer before. Did you know that the last two summers they spunked more cash on New players than Ajax has done totally since World War II. Did it show? Is spunking huge sums of cash the only way?

Yeah, Ajax were shit and United won.

So that's two trophies and CL football delivered by Mourinho in his first season. The same two finals we lost last season, if you recall.

Of course I recall. I was there in the stands. Why should I forget? And your point being what? Spunking world record sums and ending up marginally better than we were last year is proof that we need to spunk huge amount of money on superstars imidiately? Even you have higher ambitons than the League Cup....

I don't care about what they spent, they won two trophies are in the Champions League.

I'd be happy with winning two trophies and being in the Champions League next season. We need to spend a fucking fortune this summer, and we will.

Well, FSG have tried it the other way, signing younger players for not inconsiderable amounts and we've all seen how that works out. My original post was slightly tongue in cheek but yeah, we do need to spend a fortune if we want to, at the very least, sustain our top four position. Spend a fortune on top quality players, which normally means high transfer fees and high wages.

If they continue to spend that amount and win the League Cup I am fine. I would also be happy if we won both finals last year. But I sure as hell would not be happy if that was the long term aim for us. I also assume that sacking Van Gaal for winning the FA Cup and ending number 5 did not set the scene for a 6th place and League Cup title instead. The resources put in suggest more close to Barcelona than West Bromwhich Albion?

Yeah we will spend money but not on superstars. Can't really see that happening. I think we have identified useful targets that will lift the first XI and create more competition.

They have won 4 trophies since Fergie fucked off. All in the last 12 months since they spent BIG.

6th place, the League Cup and the UEFA Cup, or whatever it is now.

Why do you keep missing out the latter trophy? Have you got Alzheimer's?

They've spent 463 mill since Fergie fucked off.

67 mill under Moyes, then 145 mill and 103 under Van Gaal and 149 under Mourinho,

1 FA cup, 1 league cup and 1 Europa league and a Community shield or two isnt exactly very good is it, for 463 mill in 4 seasons?
Finishing 7th, 4th, 5th and 6th is it in the league? You'd expect more from one the most, if not the most expencive squad in football.

As I said they won the two finals we lost, and credit to them. Are you overly impressed? Do you believe their team under Mourinho in this years UEFA cup, or whatever it is called these days, are better or worse than Van Gaals that we knocked out last year?

FSG has proven that they are not football men... But they also made a very good decision last year by appointing Klopp, whom everyone wanted. Klopp come with a tad different mindset than a few other managers and he want to do things his own way, which is rather create superstars than buy them. What that means for the summer spending remains to be seen, but it certainly means no one single player for world record fee.

I think thats just bitterness on our part.
We havnt spent the money and dont win trophies.

It all smacks a bit of small mindedness, 'Oh THATS all youve won hahahaha all that money etc'
Yeah. TROPHIES.

Ps-I was all for that attitude until they won last night picked up a european trophy and jumped past us straight into the champions league.

What they spend is of zero concern to me, they are fucking minted, what is a concern is they win trophies regardless.

We look fucking stupid saying oh but they spent all that money.
Id give my right ball to have won an FA cup, League cup and Uefa cup in 12 months rather than one league cup in a decade.

Oh hahaha Manchester is a laughing stock.
What the fuck does that make us.

Ah come on. They rave around blanding their club as the biggest in the world and thats what they got for the world record spending? It is trophies yeah but if you asked United fans in the start of season when they marked all their messages #Pogback what the expectations were, you think hoofing the ball to Fellaini to secure CL after ending 6th in the League? Haha.... not a fucking chance mate!

I'd want those trophies as well, and its not bitternes or small mindness either. Its just a realistic look at what they have achieved for nearly half a billion £. Not very impressive to say the least.

Most of the Utd fans I know arent happy with the season regardless given how poor they have been in the league.
For half a billion £ you expect a title challenge every season and the later rounds of the Champions league.

The money isnt the point.

When Manchester City spent like this it took them 2 years to win the league and now they compete every year.
Same with Chelsea back in the day.

If you think with half a billion invested plus probably another 200m this summer they wont be smashing it up next year then im astonished.

Their league campaign probably wasnt what they wanted, but its a building block. A BIG one and they won trophies regardless.

They'll be thereabouts but I'm not at all convinced that they'll be smashing it. Winning the Europa is nice, but (except for Bigears) winning the odd pot is of only limited relevance to how a club is doing overall. It's league position which shows that, and their league challenge failed. What's more, it failed without adequate reason and, because of all that, I'm far from convinced the season was as significant as you're saying. They may quite well become challengers again, but last season doesn't suggest to me it's nailed on that they will.

Their league form improving next season will be dependent on transfer market success.

I'd hope they spunk another £100m on a other pogba esq signing whilst also hope that pogba doesn't turn into a great premier league player for them over the summer.

With the increase in spending and presumably influx of talent the world will expect a better breed of football and certainly won't tolerate another 6th place next season regardless of cup success

The pressure on pep and Wenger (should he stay) will be just as big as once again, two of the now big 6 the I'll have to miss out on cl qualification via the league and obviously owners and fans alike will be expecting titles when you add several hundred million of investment on top of an preexisting several hundred million pound squad.

The pressure should be lower for Klopp purely because of the fact that he has the worst squad and will ijely spend less then at least 4 of those top 6 sides.

Just a reminder to y'all, CL footy is not guarenteed next season..Yet. We have to qualify and there are some fucking tasty sides in it.

They're better. Better players. Better manager. Won two cups in his first season. Back in CL next season. Will spend 150m in summer. Maybe more.

I'd be quite satisfied with that if I was a United fan.

I'd be fucking delighted if we managed to win two trophies and have guaranteed CL football this time next year

So we're shite because they won the finals we lost in. And we're shiter than them still because we finished above them in the league. Hmm.
Didn't you start a thread telling Benitez to fuck off because we weren't performing in the league?

The mancs fans I know are a tad ashamed on what they deliver on the field. They obviously want to compete with Bayern, Real and Juve and is far away. But of course they are not small mentality guys like you..

Aye but if we can't beat Plzen or sporting Lisbon or whatever then what's the point of even being in it?

Money. I'm not expecting to win it next season anyway (though I wasn't in 2005 either as it happens) but I want as long a run in it as we can possibly get, so I'll take a lucky 1-0 scrape-through in the qualifiers with a goal bouncing in off somebody's bo11ocks if it comes to that.

Fuck that , there's more to football than dollars.

I'm still trying to erase Rodgers' attempt at the Champions league from my mind, when we could muster a win against Basel and struggled against sodding ludogretz or whoever it was and Real played with us at Anfield

Sorry but, if we want to progress beyond that dismal showing in the CL, we're gonna need those dollars you're so sniffy about. Sad but unavoidable these days.
