Ludicrous Rumours P2

Guardian and Telegraph both reporting we're going to Sign Chelsea's Dominic Solanke, out of contract but a tribunal fee of between £2-3m and wages of £20k a week. Celtic, Red Bull Leipzing and a few other teams were interested in him

That's not a ludicrous rumour.

Have we ever signed a cast-off from one of the oil clubs that has gone on to be anything other than average?

I can think of a number of spuds but no successes.

As far as ludicrous or otherwise rumours go, I'm OK with links to players like Keita, Mendy and Van Dijk - it shows we are addressing obvious weaknesses in the team in defence and midfield - but where the FUCK are all the links to attacking players and strikers?

We were the lowest scorers of everyone in the Top 4, so it's painfully obvious that we need to add a proper striker to the first team, and also another speedy AM/ winger like Mane.

(Admittedly we also conceded the most goals, but BOTH need fixing).

So bring me LOTS of links, rumours and "done deals" for strikers please.
I think we'll definitely sign a winger at the very least. The interest in both Brandt and Pulisic seemed fairly credible. And there've been more than a few links to Mohamed Salah of late. Any of those should be welcome additions.

There's been a worrying lack of links to actual strikers though, you're right.

Fixed for accuracy and expectation levels as per the diagram.

Ok yeah, surely we should offer them £4M then. You sound like our board and how we've been acting in the market for the past many years really..

Anyways, he had a bad game and he thought so too;

"I don't think I touched the ball for the first 20 minutes. Maybe I had like ten touches in total and to be fair those I did have wasn't very good. It was a poor game for me. Hopefully I can learn from it, after all it was the biggest game of my career so far."

I think you could argue that he was very isolated and his teammates failed to release the ball to him on several occasions and United, well, just played extremely defensively giving away very little space. Even so, I also think he looked a bit "young" and second best against Smalling etc., it wasn't a good game for him at all.

However that doesn't change the fact that he's been impressing against almost everyone else, from Schalke to Lyon to Feyenoord to PSV. Doesn't change the fact he's outscored any other teenager in the Europa League as well as he's been in devastating form more or less all season in his first senior season. Doesn't change the fact he looks exactly like what we need, he's got all the attributes and the mentality to become an absolutely devastating world class striker.

Having watched more or less all of his games I can say without any shadow of a doubt that his potential is far greater than any of our current lot - which in itself should make him a strong candidate. I even believe he would be ready to play from day one and give our attack much more power and weight.

@redhorizon2 you suggest that we buy a player with 11 goals to his name this season instead of the one with 22, who's even two years younger than him? I get that the Serie A is a stronger league in general but what else do you know about this Schick that makes him a stronger candidate in your opinion? (I mean apart from the fact he wasn't invisible in an EL finale against one of the most defensive United teams ever).
You do know I am ribbing you? I was all with you up until final of the Europa but Dolberg was a dear in headlights. That made me think could he bottle it if he moved to a bigger league.
Schick's goals per minute is on par with Dolberg and some of those moves by Schick are reminiscent of Suarez. Finally price, Schick comes at £8m cheaper.

Is that a full dreamy or just a minor one ?

We've been linked before and I really wanted us to sign him, but seems to have gone off the boil and has been pretty dire this season.
Still, 15 mill euros is nothing if he could replicate his form from previous seasons.
Sky Italia arent covering themselves in glory with "right back" mind....

Reports are growing that Ricardo Rodriguez will be in Italy next week for his Milan medical, as Wolfsburg sell for €15m plus bonuses.
There had already been confirmation from an intermediary working on the deal.
Now Sky Sport Italia also note that the agreement is imminent for €15m plus another €3m in bonuses.
The right-back is expected to fly in for his medical next week.
Milan already agreed terms with Rodriguez several weeks ago, but the move was postponed until after Wolfsburg had completed the relegation play-off.
Last night they secured their Bundesliga status, so it’s full steam ahead for the Rossoneri now.

Dolberg's a dear alright wink

Anyway, this Schick fella might be awesome, I haven't seen him play like ever so I can't say but surely some of his moves in that clip are nice.

However, even though he's been scoring at about the same rate as you say there's a gulf between scoring 23 goals and 8. You just simply can't anticipate that a low-goal figure player will just keep on scoring at the same rate when played more.

Also quite a handful of Dolberg's goals have actually been decisive - two against Lyon in the Semi's and one against Schalke as well as he also scored against their rivals in the league, not sure how Schick's been scoring his but you at least have to take that into consideration when valuating a player.

Furthermore there have been quite a few critics of Ajax's wide men and their lack of 'eye' for the cross/pass into the middle as they tend to dribble a lot. Those critics believes that Dolberg's actual tally could be a good deal better had his teammates been less selfish. When you watch Dolberg's goals you'll see quite a few of them are either ones he's creating for himself running past a fair deal of defenders or ones where he's involved in the combination of play. So imagine what he could achieve with even better service - probably quite a lot.

The thing is, and I know this is me gong out on a limb, I reckon Dolberg could emulate Kane's 14/15 season (his first full season with Spurs) scoring around 30 goals in all competitions should we pick him up in the Summer and put our faith in him at the start of the season. There will of course be games where we could perhaps draw some parallels with the EL Final, but overall he's a quick learner, he adapts well and he ALWAYS scores on his debut. We'd be a right mess if we are at least not fighting for his signature as these players are rare - especially the ones we can actually get our hands on.
