I thought he was brilliant last night..

Their is no denying with Lucas in the side the team appears to be better balanced..

We may not scorew as many goals as we do without him, but we concede far less..

It wasnt just his pressing and non nonsense approach that pleased me last night, he even pinged one or two Gerrard esq passes in the first half..

Great display.. best player on the pitch behind Coutinho

From what I have seen of Southampton this season Wanyama hasn't looked nearly as effective without Schneiderlein beside him. Am I bonkers?

Soton have looked very unbalanced though and have loads of injuries so I'm not sure how much you can read into that yet.
Most teams would miss Schneiderlin and playing Davis/Romeu instead.

Wanyama would cost a shitload though, so its a no regardless. Should have bought him when he left Celtic.

Certainly played well last night...

The boy has got minerals that's for sure, I didn't want him sold anyway so I hope that gives Rodgers something to think about.

Can he still do a very effective job for us? Yes. Do we need to sell him to make room in the squad / grt him off the wage bill? No. Why on earth get rid then when if last night's substitution was anything to go by, we do not have a ready made replacement.

Good for the club, but I'm not sure this is the best for him, as far as playing time goes. We haven't offered him a new contract (2 years left, same as Allen), and Rodgers intimated during his post-game (or was it pre-game?) interview that Lucas will be a role player rather than a key player (well, until we come to the big games and need a specialist DM). Of course, Rodgers could still change his mind about it, but Lucas will have to take a gamble that he does.

I'm happy he's staying at least for this season as it allows us more time to assess our replacement options for the next season and beyond - I wouldn't be surprised if perhaps we've struck a gentleman's agreement with him to not stand in his way next season if an offer comes in for him and he wants to take it.

That would be fine by me. I'm not really interested in what is best for Lucas, only in what is best for LFC (though I'll wish him well when he leaves).

Another aspect to Lucas staying is that he's happy to do the non-sexy stuff while it frees up the sexy bastards to do their thing further up the pitch.

If it wasn't for Lucas and his Monopoly board the players would be in Bumper every night.

Ha, I love Bumper. We always stay across from it on South Hunter Street when we are over.

Was it @Squiggles who worked there for a while and said Andy Carroll was once turfed out for acting a shitpig?
