@TheFarm_Peter: After the match at the Emirates & Rodgers announced Lucas was going nowhere the players all cheered & sang the Lucas song #LFC #teamspirit

I wonder what song they sang when they had their little falling out and he told him he could find another club? -Before Henderson got injured and we had to play Arsenal.

So what can you say. Before the Arsenal game we didn't need a defensive midfielder like Lucas but now we suddenly need one. If Lucas isn't playing then one of Can, Milner, Henderson must play out of position and that makes them worse. Lucas makes our central midfielders better and protect the back four better than anyone else in the squad.

So we do need a good DM.
The question is - is Lucas good enough for us or do we need a better DM.
At one stage (Kenny's days) it looked like Lucas was becoming the player Rafa hoped he would be. Then came all those injuries, and he never seemed to be the same player again.
Personally, I don't think he is good enough. He may have good games, but not consistently enough. We probably need a better and more consistent DM.

Not many great DM out there. You can find many defensive midfielders that can break up the play and make great tackles but not many that also can play the easy game. One reason IMO to his many injuries is the number of challenges he makes. He makes the most challenges in the league. He makes the most tackles in the league. He is also a great passer.

If we want to replace him then it would probably cost the club £30m+ to do it and it would be a gamble. We know that Lucas will do his job week in week out. He isn't a gamble. How many shit games have Lucas played for us? Not many. You know that he will do his part of the job.

I don't disagree but if we spent £30m on a DM this place would explode within weeks as people rage about what he actually does.

It would more than explode. Many members would never be able to recover and would forever need medical help 24/7 so I agree. Lucas isn't a Mascherano and will never be as great as him. Masch is probably one of the best defensive players ever. It is also unfair to compare him to Xabi and expect him to do the same job he did for us. He will do his job and you know he will do it the Lucas way. Break up play, make tackles and deliver short quick passes. He is one of our worst players in the attacking half but our best in the defensive half.

Well, let him play a few games, and then you'll read again about all those unnecessary fouls he commits in dangerous positions.
I agree that he is an intelligent player, positions himself quite well' and makes a lot of tackles.
However, I suspect his physical attributes are not good enough for this level, and his offensive contribution is far from satisfying.
So basically, he's a bit of a luxury we cannot afford as a first choice DM.

Is this actually true?

It makes it sound like Rodgers made his mind up during the game or that the players are like kids and he kept a surprise for them.

It also sounds like something you'd see in New Star Soccer or an old version of Football Manager.

If you believe Besiktas president then the deal was agreed and Lucas would fly down to Turkey the day after the Arsenal game. So it sounds like Rodgers changed his mind during the game and decided to keep him.

Im made up. I love wonderman and dont think that when fit and after a run of games there are many better players in his role in world football.

And for me he, along with Skrtel kind of the last link we have to our past.
dunno if or why thats important, but I like the idea we have a player at the club who might get a testimonial.

Have either of them won anything other than a league cup with us?

They've both won player of the year. Not their fault the rest of our team has been sh*t.

True, just thought Oncy saying they had a link to our not so glorious recent past was strange.

I would keep Lucas all the same, would cost too much to replace him and he has his uses.

For Rodgers to even entertain this idea that he could remove Lucas, hahaha the poor fool has much to learn.

Lucas is fucking ace in respect of his ability to do jedi mind tricks on most Liverpool fans. He wheels out a 'good' 45 minutes of football once every 3-6months and all of a sudden he's indispensable and Rodgers is a nobhead for thinking about shipping him out. Fair play to him, I'm only jealous that I can't do that for 50k a week.

Well, you post maybe one good post every 3-6 months but without getting paid £50k a week, so fair play to you. You are indeed indispensible to this site.

I just got trolled by the ryanclonebot. Nice try clone, but you'll have use bigger bait than that.
