Lucas Leiva - Wonderman.

What a sign of how things have come on, who'd have thought it two years ago that we'd all be waiting here holding our breaths on the fitness of Lucas. Congratulations lad, you're (deservedly) becoming a cult hero here.

I agree Gerry

Quite a few of us kept up with the pretence that "he's utter shite" as to not jinx him, now the poster who started this thread has gone and undone all of our hard work.

As someone's already said.

OH THE IRONY.

Especially if this is serious. (fingers crossed it's not).

He's been simply immense over the past five or six games and has improved steadily over the past say 18 months or so. We'd miss him.

And I'm really starting to like him a lot - even as a footballer. 🙂

On a sidenote. Am I the only one who's been missing Brendan over the past couple of weeks.

All this Lucas Wonderman stuff would've been right down his alley eh....

*big grin*

I have never been a fan of Lucas. He has looked wasted and t is beyond belief that this guy is close to 200 games for us. There have been too many games he shouldn't have featured, and his contribution to the team has been zero. I will go as far as to say we have lost out on big things in the past due to fielding Lucas.

But the way he has performed this season (and parts of last) is what we need in the team. A rock solid leader at the middle. The engine room is working again, and he is very much to thanks for that. I forget the past, and say lets go forward with him being the main engineer.

if lucas' injury is bad one then I wonder if spearing will come in for him of if henderson does indeed start in his natural position. and before anyone asks, no I don't have a voodoo doll* and lucas would be one of the first names on the team sheet to play fulham away from home.

* I wouldn't put it past bren to have one though 😉
on TLW even bren gave faint praise to lucas (through gritted teeth), he is lying in wait for lucas to fuck so he can pounce (panther like).

Henderson has done well enough in front of a midfield 2, so I hope he doesn't play in lucas' stead

Speo all the way

Hhaaha.

Anyways, I never thought I'd be worried about the outcome of a Lucas scan, unless he'd become fused with one of the good players in a horror bus crash. But I am, he's been top banana the last few games.

I definately want to see henderson partnerning adam in lucas' absence with maxi and bellamy on the flanks but I suspect spearing will come in for lucas especially away from home.

I've been gving him mad props and special gropes in the match topics lately. What's happened to his heading and passing? I expected his tackling to get better, which it has, by loads, but his all round game has improved in a way I never thought it could. Forward passes... To our players, with the outside of his boot. And his heading against Citeh, he outjumped Toure all day. He used to be crap at winning headers.

lucas always a competent passer of the ball but now he starting play more ambitious balls, also lucas is speeding up his time on the ball, he used to be quite pounderous (and had the ball nicked off his toe).

Spearing/Adam away from home, Henderson/Adam in home games - Lucas will not be missed, despite the fact his perfomances in the last 3 matches have turned him into a world class performer *sighs*

*For the record, I want him to make a speedy recovery as he has become a good SQUAD player.

The only irreplaceables we have are Reina, Suarez, Agger and Enrique.

I used to defend him a lot on here because I never thought he was as bad as people made out and he never went hiding especially in the face of some of the criticism he was on the end of. I always thought he was a half decent player as well though, nothing fantastic and we need better. His improvement under Kenny though has been almost transformational. He looks a monster player lately and he seems to be doing it with some consistency. Even I'm surprised. Makes you think though is it the player himself or was it the instructions under other managers? Has Kenny given him more license to play ? I guess we'll never know

End of the day if he carries on playing like this we've got a much better player than ANY of us realised and that benefits us a team and allows to focus on strengthening other more pressing areas. I just hope if he does have a bad game next, like most players do. the knives don't come out so easy. We've seen a Lucas improve under massive criticism I wonder what he could do if we all got behind him ?

I think he will be missed - he was last night when he went off. I also think though we have a better squad to cope with it though. I don't think anyone is saying he is a world class performer though but he looks like a bloody good one lately.

He has always deserved respect for putting up with more stick at the ground than any player I can remember - well since Riise got hounded out by a minority of idiots. By the way, I've never slated him at the match, I've sighed and whispered 'fuuuuccccckkkkk' to myself but I fucking hate the boo boys because as you say, it offers nothing constructive to the player. I don't know if bigging him up will affect him. I think he's proven he's personally headstrong and so I doubt criticism either way will do much - whereas the influence of Kenny seems to be showing.

While we're here giving credit where it's due - Henderson's ball to Bellamy for the first yesterday was top class. It was like when you used to press 'thru ball' on the first versions of ISS on the Snes.

Yeah Hendos ball was magnificent and there's another player who's looking better and improving.

It's amazing how Lucas has gained all these talents over night.

I think lucas has always made accurate passes but now he is passing quicker. As recently as arsenal away I thought he was getting caught on the ball.

I think henderson's problems in his head, I think lack of confidence is the only thing currently holding him back, when he is comfortable in his surrounding I think he will come on in leaps and pounds.

One more good thing about Lucas is that he seems to love the club and to appreciate what is means to be a Liverpool player.
He is not a big name player whose head might be turned by the likes of Barca or Real Madrid.

I've doubted him BIG time.

But over the past 1½ Season or so it has been evident that he's improved his game. Even under Roy he was at times one of our most reliable - yet unspectacular - players.

He's still young and it certainly goes to show that you just never know whether a player will actually become a star player one day. A few years back I'd laughed good had anyone claimed he'd one day become one of the leading DMs in the game. Now it'd be less inclined to laugh and instead put on a smile.

Perhaps.
