Liverpool's Summer Transfers : Speculation & Rumours

We won't be signing another CB by the sounds of things. Mistake, that. Matip and Gomez are very injury prone. Something odd is going on here.

No, I got it directly from Paul Gorst who spoke directly to Klopp an hour or two ago and said that it doesn't look like we're signing a defender and that it looks like we're praying nobody gets injured.
Don't you dare use your personal connections to scupper our fanbase from being completely fucking daft.

It's not the Liverpool way

"Just asked Klopp about buying a centre-back, sounds like they're just praying no-one gets injured to be honest."

That's the text. But yeah, I'm being negative.

Hal as he was writing this:

Relax my friend. I didn’t accuse you of being negative. I just wondered how you’d looked at the Pearce article and concluded that. But there was no connection between the two. My bad.

It does paint a pretty bleak picture.

*this may not have been directed at me. I’m blaming travelling and being on my phone.

Nah, that last message you quoted wasn't aimed at you. No worries.

Whatever happens this season, I hope it doesn’t expedite Klopp’s own departure.
I just wouldn’t want him to
Quit the end of the season because he got tired of being left to burden for any apparent lack of support and decisions being forced on him down from above.

He continued: "How it is with the squad, you always have to find a solution and you want to prepare for all possible problems during the season.

"You can't and that's what we have to accept always every year. So we will have solutions in the specific moments.”

That's about as obvious as you are going to get.

Acceptance that you can’t prepare for all possible problems every year doesn’t seem particularly controversial.

He has to hope to avoid a problem at cb, even though with an additional cb last year we were still forced to use henderson and fabinho. It's fucking silly. This team deserves better than being burnt out like this.

Equally, Koumetio is emerging as someone who could fill in for a couple of games, Hoever could probably step in and Nathan Phillips is there too.

I’m not saying they’re ideal options, but neither would be spending £20m on someone to be fourth choice.

There are options there - if we choose to use them - to spread the load.

I’d agree it probably relies on Van Dijk not getting injured, more than anything, but that’d probably be the case no matter who we bought.

I would definitely prefer to have a quality 4th CB and not have to pluck Fabinho out of midfield; I'm sure Klopp would as well. That said, the reason we had to use Henderson and Fabinho last season was basically because Lovren was extremely injury-prone (what was his longest run of fitness – 7 games?), so losing him doesn't affect our CB cover all that much in reality. We might be OK with the combination of Phillips and Koumetio if they both end up staying; I think they are good enough for the domestic cups at least.

Got to say I thought the same thing after watching the interview. Crossed arms and no doubt micro expressions galore (I’m on the phone to Tim Roth as we speak).

It seemed to me he was mostly pissed off at the league deciding to go back to the 3 substitutes rule; this has probably affected our transfer and squad plans as well. He crossed his arms when talking about these topics, but was open and comfortable about everything else. Noticeably comfortable talking about Thiago as well, which could be a good sign.

Not agreeing to bigger match day squads and 5 subs with the fixture list set up as it is this season, is just plain stupid.
I expected nothing else from the people in charge though.

Couldn't even give a fuck it's a quiff

We aren't buying anyone lads. If we're willing to be creative in an area where were arguably weak, we're definitely not buying in an area we're strong like midfield.

Bye thiago.
