Liverpool won't win the title for at least 5 years - Keegan

Keegan is a prat. He can't handle that Kenny is better than him at everything from football to management.

We'll win the league with Kenny at the helm.
I can't accept that.

Keegan was a terrific player and certainly one of our best ever. That Kenny surpassed his Liverpool performances is hardly a condemnation and, while Kenny was doing that for us it's worth remembering that Kev was picking up higher individual awards elsewhere.

Wonderful, wonderful player and never a prat.

KK is a very emotional man. Liverpool owes him a lot of gratitude for what he did for the club.

It is a shame he tends to speak before he thinks.

Liverpool owe Keegan absolutely fuck all. We plucked him out of lower league obscurity and put him at the forefront of European football. He had talent and all that but the player that replaced him, a certain Kenneth Daglish, made Keegan pale in comparison. Keegan had fuck all affinity for LFC and I've got fuck all for him, the bubble permed weirdo.

He was a good servant Sunny. You can't lambast every player that leaves Liverpool.

He was a good player for us, excellent in fact, but he is also a bit of a bad tit. My respect for him doesn't run all that deep I'm afraid.

I don't. Keegan couldn't wait to leave LFC though. He was a good player for us, that's about it. I've as much affection for the man as he showed the club and city- completely fleeting. Players leave clubs. The manner how they go about it completely differs.

So you rate him alongside Alonso?

Nah, I rate him alongside Torres. The club benefitted him as long as he decided it did. I know you may hold him in high regard RM but I find the bloke a complete cockend. He played for fucking Scunthorpe for fucks sake. Shankly and LFC turned him him into the player he became but he never blinked twice about leaving LFC when the payday came calling. Alonso left because Benitez pissed him off. Whereas Alonso is no angel in the affair it's a different thing for me. Alonso also stil holds the club in some regard whereas nobhead Keegan can't wait to tell LFC players in the press that their future lies away from Anfield as if it's some strange way of justifying his guilty arse conscience.

Keegan won stuff with Liverpool, Torres never did. Both are cockends but for entirely different reasons, one left to win stuff, the other wanted new challenges. Torres was unscrupulous with how he handed his transfer so is treated accordingly, especially how he said he'd joined a real team afterwards. Keegan has just said we won't win the title for at least 5 years, it's not really that bad. Considering the man is known for his stupid quotes, that's all it is - the man is a jester. I haven't looked but I don't think he's said anything bad about Liverpool (I maybe wrong here).

I still haven't decided about Alonso. He wanted to leave and Rafa gave him the perfect reason so that he didn't look bad. He left us, with arguably his best season, us at 2 place with a real chance of winning the next season!
I remember reading in a paper that Alonso wasn't happy about the tax situation in the UK (50% tax to really high earners) and imho think that affect him more.

Keegan rightly belongs in Liverpool history simply because he's won stuff - lots. Torres and Alonso haven't (CL the exception for Xabi). After all, winning trophies is what Liverpool is meant to be about.

Dunno, memory is a bit vague. For some reason I thought it was Alonso.

Not that it matters, he wanted to leave so he can do one.

Wizardry, I could give a flying fuck what you accept or not.

Good for KK picking up individual honours. Nobody questioned his ability.

Kenny surpassed him in everything. Nobody is using Kenny's accomplishments to condemn him.

He should speak about things that concern him. Liverpool is not one of them in my humble but biased opinion.

Thank god be moved to Real before he starved to death.

Cheers for finding that Red, I had never seen that one before.

He only ever seems to talk about Liverpool/go to Anfield, etc if it's Bill Shankly related, and nothing else.
Exactly right.

In fact that's the sole reason I have a slight soft spot for him since he loved Shankly almost as much as a father. But he's never really seemed to have real affection for the club.

I hope Keegan can somehow sleep at night knowing some gobby forumite with less than zero knowledge of his thinking and situation doesn't have any respect for his opinion.

Oh, wait...... that's right - he doesn't know you exist. :🙂

Probably about time you changed hands, pal.

“Personally, and I’m sure Kenny knows, I think the Liverpool squad is still way, way short. Unless huge investment comes in, I’d be amazed if Liverpool were to win the league championship in the next five years.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/liverpool/8485428/Liverpool-will-not-win-the-Premier-League-for-at-least-five-years-says-former-Anfield-great-Kevin-Keegan.html
This is the actual quote in the article that somehow became the headline... I don't think anybody would actually disagree with what is said above?

The squad does need investment if want to win the title and without it, I can't see us ever winning it, let alone in 5 years.

Keegan does strike me as not having much affinity for Liverpool and after what he helped achieve here, it does seem a bit of a shame. Especially as he seems so much a Newcastle fan instead. But then again, their fans show him much more affection and respect so maybe it's no surprise.

We do need to improve but I certainly don't think we need "huge" investment to win the title. Our form under Kenny and our squad as it stands are already good enough for 2nd/3rd place in the league.

Agreed.

On paper, we need an overhaul to challenge, true, but on paper, Utd should be 4th at best right now & we should have been 6/7th all season.

It simply doesn't work like that, as KK well knows, to his cost.

Yes, I agree JJ... that would have been the only word I could have taken exception to.

Our squad is not as good as Arsenal's and probably not as good as Spurs's in terms of talent, but I believe we have a greater savviness for winning matches, especially the big matches that I don't think Arsenal and Spurs have.

If Henry and Co do invest and we bring in players of greater talent then we might start find it easier to win against... as players would say in interviews... the so called smaller teams.

Since the 'happy day' in January this is the league table:

1 Chelsea 14 11 2 1 30-9 +21 35
2 Liverpool 15 9 3 3 30-12 +18 30
3 Man United 15 9 2 4 28-14 +14 29
4 Arsenal 14 7 6 1 26-14 +12 27
