Let's give the guy a chance. Various reports speak of his energy and commitment, and it sounds like he's very happy to join the Liverpool. I'm sure he will bring a great attitude and a consistent level of performance. I'm looking forward to seeing him play for the club.

Contrast Jurgen speaking politely about Melo last summer and him talking about Endo today.

It was obvious that he didn't want that Brazilian. It's just as obvious that he's genuinely happy to have Endo as part of his squad.

He seems a nice guy and I hope we will love him.

Interesting use of analytics by the club in going for a player with 5 kids, presumably because the data shows he’ll be the first one in for training every morning and the last one to leave every day.

He's a lot more confident than Taki. Helps that he knows English already too.

I like him. He won't win the B'allon Dor but he'll give you that crazy banzai kamikaze effort and fans will love that. Japanese Dirk Kuyt.

Please stop comparing him to other ordinary players, he has some very good passing range, short range dribbling ability, and by all accounts aggressive and someone who wants to win. Just remember this is the guy that lead the Japan team to victories over Germany and Spain at the world cup. He ain't taking any shit.

5 children? He'll be the last one in every day ... and never leave.

Blimey....30 yo and 5 kids.

Energizer bunny.

During my high school years I did a project on Johann Sebastian Bach in which I wrote that with over a thousand works published, hundreds more lost and twenty children, he was definitely the most prolific of the great composers. I hoped to provoke the teacher to some kind of outburst but the spoilsport loved it. 😀

Klopp seemed to be in a great mood during the press conference. He really likes this signing.

From a Japanese LFC fan on Bookface:

1. He is versatile and fills so many of our problem positions and he will do so with discipline. Predominantly a defensive midfielder and we will come on to his qualities there, but he is very capable at CB having started his career there (left sided centreback to cover Van Dijk) and can play both fullback positions. He is alot more vocal than Gomez, Ibou or Matip so he would fill in that leadership role and his English is not bad. For someone who is 5'10, he is absolutely dominant in the air. Reminds me of Roberto Ayala in that regard.
2) Liverpool and Klopp specifically, hoards captains such as Robbo, Salah, Van Dijk, etc and Endo is both captain of Japan and Stuttgart and he leads by example as well as vocally. Just rewatch the World Cup and him getting everyone into shape and leading the warm ups and cool downs. He will be the one that leads the youngsters through the games in the early cup rounds.
3) He is MEAN and a total hard nut boss. Minamino is super nice and super shy and probably a cute teachers pet. Endo is a straight edge player and won't take crap from any opposition and slacking from any team member. His obsession with winning is scary. Think about it, a Japanese fella, waltzing into the German league and taking the captaincy. He really is like Milner in this regard.
4) He is 30 years old. People are saying it as a negative. Remember, Mourinho and Conte love the 30 year old proven quality players, as they know the role, have seen everything and played on the biggest stages and can be relied on to be disciplined. You also know how they react and perform historically and not just a 1 season wonder or with limited stats like Lavia. These players are bought to win NOW. Remember how upset Conte got at the up and coming Djed Spence (big resale value, big potential etc).
5) Every squad needs players with huge availability and ability. He is never injured. He is of the Park Ji Sung, Nicky Butt, Conor Gallagher, Gilberto Silva, Henderson, Wijnaldum type mould where they are not the super flashy players, but they absolutely will TANK the opposition, retain the ball, keep things going and play the water carrier role.
6) He is 2 footed and CAN SCORE. He is a baller, not just a destroyer. Don't be confused because he is aggressive, persistent and a great tackler. He has the streetballer vibe like Suarez where it doesn't always look conventional, but he caresses the ball with finesse. He scored the crucial goal to keep Stuttgart up from relegation.
7) Stuttgart fans are DEVASTATED to lose him. That means a lot. Its not a split fan base decision, they all love and respect him so much and what he means to them as a person and as a player. Additionally, there is no doubt Klopp follows the Bundesliga and will know all about Endo in depth. Jorg will have run the rule as well and decided together, that Endo can help us NOW. You think Klopp will give the green light for a stop gap, when he wants to win things this season?

The price of Endo does not dictate his ability. He has a year left and it was his dream to play in England and win something big. He is without a shadow of a doubt, a better player than Lavia right now, which is what is really important for the current season.
9) He wants to play for Liverpool and came at the first calling. Never forget reds, how much that intent actually means. A talented, earnest, quality player, who will do as Klopp wants, has the ability to take the game by the scruff of the neck and dominate a game with 110% effort and endeavour and has come from the Bundesliga which stylistically, is the most similar league to the Premier League, so will take minimal adjusting. He also will not try to run when Madrid and Barca come flirting like a certain Caicedo and will not complain about game time potentially like a Lavia who didn't want to play second fiddle.
10) This is what we wanted for Bajcetic. To give him a chance to be eased into the team and claim his place when he has the consistency and fitness. Endo will fight for his life for the team and his place, but would be the top cheerleader for Stefan if he breaks through. A real team player.
11) Endo was in our eyes, the player of the match in the wins over Germany and Spain and shackled Luka Modric like a mad dog. There are not many players who are as slippery and as quality as Luka.
12) Endo's signing pays for itself with commercial ventures. Future generations of Japanese super talents will want to follow in his footsteps and the technical talent and mental fortitude of Japanese players is a trademark!

There’s definitely an epic song/chant out there waiting to be discovered that will combine wordplay on his name, his impressive fecundity, and a nice tune.

Thank you, Wataru!
After four years at VfB, Wataru Endo has left to join Liverpool in the Premier League. VfB wish their former captain all the best for the future.

Wataru Endo is not a man of many words, but one of big performances. The 30-year-old wore the red hoop for four years, giving his all for the club game after game and leading the team out onto the pitch as captain from 2021/22 onwards. He was VfB’s linchpin in midfield and led by example through his dedication, commitment and endurance. The VfB hierarchy valued his qualities: team bodyguard, leader, anchor and warrior are all terms they would come to associate with Wataru Endo.

Ever-present

After helping the club achieve promotion from Bundesliga 2 to the top flight in his debut season in Bad Canstatt, Endo hardly missed a league game for VfB. As well as featuring in 99 of a possible 102 Bundesliga matches – 33 each season – over the past three campaigns, the Japan international also played 21 games in the second tier, 11 in the DFB Cup and two in the Bundesliga promotion/relegation play-off at the end of last term. Endo has also played more minutes (8,783) than any other midfielder in the German top flight since his debut in September 2020, according to data specialists Opta.

The warrior

Aided by a tireless playing style, Endo blossomed into one of the Bundesliga’s best tacklers and hardest-working players. According to the DFL, he won more challenges than any other player in 2020/21 (476) and 2021/22 (448) before coming fourth in that category in 2022/23 (439). No other Bundesliga midfielder has won more duels (1,274) or registered more ball recoveries (706) since his debut, while Endo also recorded the second-most tackles (207; source: Opta) in that period. He covered between 350 and 370 kilometres each season, which placed him among the top ten every campaign.

After four years of unwavering commitment in a VfB shirt, Wataru has now joined Liverpool in the Premier League. VfB would like to thank their former captain for every appearance during his time at the club, for his leadership qualities on and off the pitch, and for every goal he scored, and wish him all the best on his new adventure![/article]

Hard to explain this unless you're Asian, but he looks like that guy in the movies who barely says a word until his younger, better looking, sibling gets caught fucking the mobster's wife in a gambling den and is about to get sliced in two. Then Wataru Endo barges in, beats the shit out of everyone, then drags his younger brother home and beats the shit out of him too.

Only ever eats plain white rice, drinks no alcohol and wears the same underwear everyday.
