I’m more excited by this than either Moises or Lavia…. But we do need a little younger vroom to go with him. Just to cover for injuries, no?

I’m guessing if we had of known hEndo and Fabs were going we might have kept Milner.

Anyways a pretty good pivot at current glances..

I think I'm happier spending the £15m on this lad than the £60m on Lavia as they both will be stop-gaps currently.

Sure Lavia may develop into something special in a couple of years but he's just a kid with potential right now. There's no guarantee, is there?

I would want a guarantee for that £40m extra.

They were probably right to say no, to be honest.

I don't agree. The proposed extension was only for 1 year and, even if Milner had had little playing time, his experience would have been valuable while we brought some of the youngsters through. Brighton obv.think he still has something to offer on the pitch as well, and their judgment of players is generally impressive.

So he hasn't made much of a wave in 4 years in Germany. Would agree that Asian players probably don't get the attention when playing outside the major leagues but once you've been there for 4 years you should be a stand out in a poor side and not be seen as a well respected footballer which is just another name for a limited footballer who gives his all.
Again I'm not knocking him and I expect him to be a solid footballer who will give it 100%.

Just to reiterate what @Modo has said about unfashionable position i.e. DM. He is absolutely right, very few teams have any turn-over of the DM position (pure 6's), it just does not happen much if a team already has a 6. Also the investment in that position for the current prices is just way over the top as it seems that demand it out-stripping supply in terms of experienced DM's. It does not bother me that no one has gone in for him, but from all the reports he is highly regarded in Germany for his performances. If we think about the discussions we have had on this forum over the years, we talk a lot about attacking CM's, Wingers, strikers and defenders but when it comes to DM's all I can remember on here are the names (from other teams) of Claude Makelele, Michaeil Essien, Kante, and lately Rodri. I don't remember us saying "Oh - would love to have X, Y, Z as our DM.

Sorry mate - I disagree - they signed Lallana too - he was also done.

He’s useful to them because he gives them experience of things they have not experience of and their strategy is based around integrating young players.

If he wanted to help bring through our youngsters - then it should have been as a coach.

As it is - he was likely blocking the progression of our youngsters rather than helping them.

Great servant, but we needed to replace him.

He’ll retire in a year.

Absolutely. We need to be to let go— one major criticism of Klopp’s Dortmund was that he allowed the squad to age.

That’s good enough for me.

Liverpool have completed the signing of defensive midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart for around €19million.
The Japan international has signed a four-year contract at Anfield.
Liverpool turned their attention to Endo this week after missing out in their pursuit of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia, who both opted to sign for Chelsea.

“I’m really happy,” manager Jurgen Klopp told LFCTV.
“I know in this world of football how it goes and stuff like this, but have a look, because he’s a really good player.
“Experienced player, captain of Stuttgart, captain of Japan, speaks good English, nice fella, family man, machine on the pitch, good footballer on top of that, sensational attitude.
“He’s a good footballer, very experienced and loves to work extremely hard.”

“I’m very happy right now and I’m so excited to join a big club in Liverpool,” Endo told Liverpoolfc.com.
“It feels amazing and this is my dream. It’s always been a dream to play in the Premier League and with one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“I can’t wait to play at Anfield in front of Liverpool fans. I play as a No 6. I think I can help this club defensively and I will have good organisation in the middle. I think that’s my job.”
Bought primarily as a defensive midfielder, Endo can also operate at centre back and right-back. He has missed just three games for Stuttgart over the past three seasons.
Another attraction for Liverpool was his leadership skills following the exits of experienced midfielders such as Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabinho this summer.
He will complement the club’s current crop of national team captains which includes Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk, Dominik Szoboszlai and Mohammed Salah.
His availability for Saturday’s game against Bournemouth will depend on whether his work permit and international clearance are granted in time.
Endo has been capped 50 times by the Japan national team and he represented his country during the 2022 World Cup.
What will Endo bring to Liverpool?

Analysis by German football expert Sebastian Stafford-Bloor
There is no reason to be underwhelmed with Wataru Endo. He is a fierce competitor and an excellent professional, but also a superb role model – and how important that could be for Liverpool, with their developing group of young midfielders.
There is also no question that Stuttgart would have been relegated from the Bundesliga last season without Endo. He is one of the most tenacious ball-winners in Germany and there is an energy to the way in which he screens his defence that must make him extremely difficult to play against.
He does not stop. He is relentless.
He can play a bit, too. Nobody would describe him as a regista or deep-lying playmaker, but nor is he just a simple stopper.
He can pass and his technique is good, so he will have no problem fitting in with the technical standard at Liverpool. And with James Milner now gone and Jordan Henderson having left for Saudi Arabia, Jurgen Klopp has a leadership deficit that needs addressing. Endo can be that sort of person; he is extremely well-respected by teammates past and present.
And why has he not left Stuttgart? That is really a question for him, but he is the father of five children and you would imagine that it would take a special opportunity to uproot his family.

I've always felt the German media does a very good job of hyping up players beyond their ability. There seems a more of a collective mentality to support the league as a whole and see players leave and do well outside the Bundesliga. That said, there's enough evidence to suggest he may be something more than a Klavan-esque stopgap. I've seen a number of Bayern fans say they would have taken him this window, which suggests he's better than his career implies. Anyone Klopp ultimately agrees deserves a fair chance, even in these conditions. As said already, if he can provide what Milner has offered us over the last 5-6 years, albeit in a six role as a focus, then it will be more than worth it. I'm always happy when fans of the selling club are genuinely gutted and that seems the case with this deal.

Klopp: "I've liked Endo since he started playing at Stuttgart, he's a late bloomer if you like"

Klopp: "A really good footballer, 5'10 but jumps to the ceiling, tactically really smart, closing down the right spaces and players & a really good footballer on top of that"

I feel like if we'd never got involved in the Caicedo debacle and shown our hand in respect of actually having money, then if offered the choice between overpaying £60M for Lavia or paying around £16M for this guy, I probably would feel happier about walking away and seeking better value and more experience as a stopgap while we wait for the right deal.

But as it is, it feels like settling...
