Liverpool vs Stoke match thread

Has anyone noticed that in Rafa's post match interview he says "The fans are amazing and if I decide to stay it will be because of them. I will fight until the end and will keep going." Now I mean, I could be reading too much into this but the whole 'If I decided to stay' thing, does that mean he is thinking of going? Not sure if anyone else has picked up on this?

Good spot. He's actually put his own head on the block twice already this season, when he said he'll have failed if he doesn't bring the title back to Anfield and (especially) when he guaranteed a top four finish. Taken together with those, I reckon that phrase you've picked out shows that the possibility of leaving is definitely in his mind.

Maybe he's realizing the SOS dont represent all the fans...

I agree, the SOS are trying to turn the clock back to the 1980's, which is never going to happen and is not going to help the club to success in the 2010's.

Portly mate, your name was used (hopefully not in vain) to confirm the argument that this is the worst LFC period ever seen in living memory (that means since the 60s when you were are a spring chicken then). Is this your view? Cheers

I don't know if this is the worst LFC period in living memory Y1. I certainly saw the lads go through some sticky patches. Our defence was certainly worse than it is now around 1997/98 when we had Kvarme and Piechnik. But in those days it was easier to turn things round, the league wasn't so much a contest of the financial strength of the clubs.

I will certainly say that I don't remember feeling so pessimistic about our prospects as I do now. I don't remember a time when we only had one striker, who got injured.

Pessimism. Sigh. Yes the pall of cloudy pessimism is overhanging us like the sword of Damocles.

This is without doubt the worst run I can remember. Im quite sure that we had worse teams at times but I can never remember feeling as pessimistic about our situation as I do now.

Oh. And I started supporting Liverpool in 1965.

I was born 87 and from a footballing perspective this doesn't seem to be the worst position we've been in. We were shit under Evans and the the prolonged days until Houller's departure were horrible.

This has been biggest reversal of fortune I can remember though. We were touted as title winners by the media and look at us now. Thankfully the fact our team has some very, very good players in it gives me some hope.

Me too! It was a great year to choose because we won the FA Cup for the first time in our history and also had a magnificent run in the European Cup, which was only stopped by Inter Milan's corruption.

Heh heh. I've been waiting for the day I could say "I wasn't even born then" on this site. Whoopa !

In that case I'm of even longer standing despite your greater, ahem, venerability. I started in the early 60s when I began to develop an interest in the game, at the behest of my Gooner dad, but decided I wanted my own team to support. I knew I'd been born in Liverpool (we had moved to Malta by then) so the name caught my eye when I was looking at the sports pages. Effectively Shanks and I started at the same time. 8)
