He bought Kezman and Drogba

Either way my point stands. He only had two fit strikers. Same as us today.

I'm not saying that there is anything wrong with what Mourinho or Klopp does here. I'm just highlighting the hypocrisy of our fans. No biggie.

I think most on here are kinda embarrassed we brought Caulker on up front. I don't think anyone is being hypocritical Pete.

Yeah, I agree. I dont see anything wrong with putting Caulker up there for 3 mins.
Long balls into the box and set pieces. Thats your best shot in injury time, so why not have a big fucker upfront for a few mins.

Are we? I dont see a problem with it. Not when there is 3 mins left.
If its from the 60/70th min, the yeah obviously embarrassed.
That would be ridiculous.
It would be like Fat Sam starting Samba upfront on his own. Which happened. At Anfield.

I haven't read the match thread in full as I was at the match. I just remember people slating Mourinho for that plenty of times is all.

Gotta be fair haven't ya.

Carra summed it up pretty good. Lallana is a nearly player. Nearly good enough.
Works hard but offers very little

It wasn't a great game from either side but we more than shaded it in terms of chances created. No one said it was a satisfactory performance, but we're still entitled to feel hard done by, they got a chance and took it, we had several chances but couldn't buy a goal. I know our flaws but we were the better side. I don't think we need to be told what our expectations should be, you're using a completely malign point that's lacking any sort of perspective on the respective performances. We were punished because we didn't take our chances. We've also got three strikers out injured while they finished the game with Depay, Rooney, Martial and Mata as their attack.

Yup. The squad is down to barebones. I dont think Klopp can be criticized as the options are so limited. Lallana shouldn't be playing so many games given his lack of output in goals. But Klopp cannot afford not to play Lallana given the lack of fit players. Until we get one of Sturridge or Ings fit, I dont think we can be too critical of Klopp.

It's incredible to think he's not got a GOAL yet this season ...

If we got an offer of 10 mill in the summer, sell.

I love watching him. The silky touches, off the ball runs, interplay and backheels. But nothing ever comes of it. Whether he fails to convert or teammates do, ultimately there is no end product. I'm lost with him - Garcia without the goals. Which just leaves the frustration. Want to see him succeed but he's running out of time. Rest of this season is his final proving ground.

That was the Lallana powder puff header I think.
Firmino had a half chance but didn't test De Gea.
Yeah, that one.
Thought that was a decent chance for Firmino on the rebound. Shame.

Come to think of it, Hendo also fluffed a very good chance when they did those two one-twos first.

He's probably gone down to Waitrose in the Range Rover.
I've never stepped foot in a Waitrose, partly cos they don't have them round these ways, as I'm sure you know (although I have seen the one in Formby from the road), & partly cos I have more sense than money, I shop in Aldi or Lidl, & I own a xsara picasso.

Close though.

I remember laughing at Mourinho for doing that, & then pointing out that there can be a validity to it.

Our okay yesterday had been reduced to punting long balls into the box. Giving them another tall player capable of winning aerial battles to worry about is worth a shot, & arguably paid (note, not payed) off against Arsenal.

I remember back in the 80s we often used to see Gary Gillespie move upfront for the last 5 minutes if we were chasing an equaliser or winner

Worth signing up to the waitrose loyalty card as they give free coffee in stores.

Carra probably forgets that, as a defender, HE was a 'nearly player' for several years, but he eventually became a fine player. There's still time for Lallana.

I agree it is worth sticking with Lallana. What I like about him is that there is an element of flair and unpredictability about his play, which can defeat defences.

Exactly. He needs coaching. He's picked up some bad habits, which are well known, such as that weird oil tanker-style turn he does away from goal and then back to goal before starting a run, and, obviously, the delaying before passing, but, as you say, he's the nearest we have to a Beardo sort of unlocker of defences in quite some time.

Adam Lallana will be 28 in four months. At that age Carragher had won the FA cup, the UEFA Cup, The League cup and the European Cup and played 350 games for Liverpool. How are you defining "nearly"?

Defeat defences? He's scored exactly zero goals. He has three assists. It's january.

On a side note, is the Lallana hate an extension of the Rodgers hate for some on here?

I wasn't Brendan's biggest fan at all but I've always had time for Lallana. The hate he gets on here is ridiculous. One failed shot or interception and it's crucifixion time. Some lie in wait to ponce on anything he does. I find the 'hate' bizarre as Lallana is a very likable person and his playing style is one that is easy to warm too. i.e. silky touches combined with a great attitude. Yeah, his fee was highly inflated and of course I want him to score more than he currently does but I don't hate him. I have no problem with him in the team and I think we are better with him in the team than out of it.
Perhaps we need to address the balance of our attacking players? Klopp needs to add an injection of pace if Sturridge and Ings are out so our floaty midfielders/strikers (Coutinho, Lalllana, Firmino) have someone else to get in behind the opposition defense. We saw Henderson trying to run from deep to address this yesterday. Our front three of Milner, Frimino and Lallana lacked that yard of pace between them so relied on runners over the top or intricate flicks to open up their defense. Klopp needs to get the balance right up there. It's tougher now that we have injuries but a front three like yesterday has obvious limitations.
