Liverpool vs Everton (league, home)

Ok I'm convinced. I've just stuck ten quid on that we'll score four or more goals in the first half

I was about to say we are probably due a ridiculously high scoring "WTF?" scoreline, but then I remembered last week. And also Norwich.

Actually, Klopp's been in charge of quite a few ridiculous scorelines in his short tenure so far. Not all of them in our favour.

Martinez has turned into a right we sniping bitch worthy of the bitters, it has to be said. He has a few swipes at us along the way here:

Everton will not be intimidated by the rejuvenated Anfield atmosphere, says Roberto Martinez.
The Blues head across Stanley Park tomorrow night looking for their first win in 12 matches against Liverpool.
Everton haven’t won at Anfield since September 1999 and they will face a Reds side buoyed by last week’s comeback win over Borussia Dortmund, which booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals.
The Blues are sure to face a red-hot reception from the home fans but Martinez has no concerns over his players’ ability to cope.
And the Everton boss points to the side’s good away record this season as proof that they can handle themselves on their travels.
“We need to be aware,” he said.
They were two minutes away from being disqualified from Europe, those are the fine margins, a set-piece and a really strong momentum that was developed after scoring the equaliser, of course, that is something you have to be aware of when we go to an away ground that’s part of our thinking and the way we need to be coping with the environment that we are going to play our football.
“But in the same we know what we have to do, what we’re good at and that’s the only thing that matters: how good we can be in what we do.
“We know that the last two weeks, they have been full of football, five games in that period and we have been coping with very solid performances and a lot of responsibility and we are ready to kick-on in the final five games in the league.” (*what the fuck is he saying here?)
Martinez says this week, which sees Everton also face Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-final, is a “defining” one.
But when asked if he could understand why a win at Anfield could have extra impact on the games ahead, Martinez said: “Not really, no.
“Our away form has been fantastic, it has been Champions League form, and that is what we want to carry on.
“We have got three games away from home; one is Liverpool, the other one is Leicester in, as you can imagine, a very significant game and then the other is Sunderland which is very significant for other reasons.
“Those are the games we want to be involved in and we want to be tested until the end.
“The Merseyside derby is a derby that has got an extra significance and we are all aware that we are playing for the bragging rights, playing for the pride of our fans and that is something we look forward to doing.
“And yes, Liverpool are in a very good moment of form and in the last two weeks have developed a momentum we will have to be aware of but, in the same way, the experience that we had last season where we never gave up, showed an incredible character and to get the equaliser so late in the game in such a stylish fashion gave us the belief we could go anywhere in the league and be ourselves.
“That is what we want to do.”

The first sentence is fucking typical meaningless Martinez bullshit. The second is the sort of stuff he's been claiming all season, that Everton are somehow playing better and have amassed more points than they actually have.

Surprisingly, Martinez is actually not far off in saying that his team's away record is in the top four region. They've got 24 points from 16 away games and a +8 goal difference, which gives them the 7th best away record and the 4th best goal difference, but with a game in hand (i.e. today). We're joint-4th with City at 27 points in 17 games (City have +6 GD while we have +4) and West Ham have 25 from 17 games.

I suppose he's playing up their away record because he's a deluded twat, or maybe just as a confidence booster / face saver for the shit season they're having.

It's the same old "You don't need to win things to be a winner" schtick from that wannabe club, as it will be when he's gone and some other patsy takes over. Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

He's also kinda suggesting we're actually no better than them, and the only thing dividing us is that we've had a couple of good weeks.

Everyone still not sure if it will be Lucas in, with Sturridge and Origi and a diamond, or the 4-2-3-1 with Milner Allen in CM, and Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino playing behind Sturridge.

Exciting!

From Aldo:

Mignolet
Clyne
Moreno
Sakho
Lovren
Milner
Lucas
Firmino
Lallana
Coutinho
Origi I reckon this might be the team?

Yeah, it's also totally stupid. We won. So we aren't out of Europe. Silly Roberto.
I saw this quote two hours ago and I'm still utterly baffled by it, what exactly is his point? Is he trying to imply that Everton are at the same level as Dortmund? Because it's utterly irrelevant to the game otherwise. It's almost LVG level babbling.

What he's trying to say is that they and we are very nearly on the same level and are separated only by strokes of luck.

It is of course ludicrous, but he's a desperate man these days.
