Martinez is close to being mortally wounded now, and probably needs a prized scalp and a trophy win to salvage his job under the new ownership. He fed the fans and the new owners some more rope by resting some of his key guys against Southampton at Goodison Park, getting just a point out of the game and in the process ensuring that they'll finish with their worst points haul since 3 points were awarded for a win. He'll be wise not to add fuel to fire by sending out a weakened side against us, so they should be coming with the best team, even if it means they'll have less rest for the weekend FA Cup semi final against their master.

For us, I think Klopp will start Flanagan. I'm assuming Origi and Ibe are nursing knocks, and that Klopp goes with his apparent first choice pairing of Lovren - Sakho. I cringe when I put Sakho into the back four, and especially with the strong and pacy Lukaku to go against, but I suppose this will be good practice to prepare them to face Bakambu in the EL semis. Sturridge played 90 minutes against Bournemouth, so perhaps Klopp will want to limit his minutes so that we don't overplay him.

I think we'll see this team:

-------------------- Mignolet -----------------
Flanagan -- Lovren --- Sakho --- Clyne
--------------- Milner ---- Lucas ------------
Lallana ------------ Allen ------- Coutinho
-------------------- Firmino ------------------

subs: Ward, Skrtel, Moreno, Stewart, Brannagan, Ojo, Sturridge
injured: Toure, Henderson, Can, Benteke, Ibe (?), Origi (?)

I hope Klopp has learned his lesson about never playing Lucas and Allen in the same midfield well enough, not to try it again in one of the most physical games of the season. Stewart should play (with Milner and Allen at either side, obviously).

I just hope he doesn't put Lallana in the middle 3 ... Though he doesn't shy away from physical confrontation, he doesn't have much of an advantage ...

It has to be either Allen, Milner, Stewart or Lucs, Milner, Stewart.

--------------Ming------------------
Clyne--Lovren-Sakho-Moreno
--------------Stewart-------------
----Milner--------------Allen-----
------Firmino-------Coutinho--

I hope he doesn't put Banana anywhere

Stewart is the same type of player as Lucas, minus experience and physicality. So if Lucas isn't the right pick, why is Stewart the right one? I'm not even remotely a Lucas fanboy but the logic escapes me here.

Well, unless you don't agree that Stewart is as limited as Lucas.

Definitely not Lucas, Milner, Stewart please. Well, not unless we're playing for a draw and don't need any attacking contribution from midfield. Allen, Milner, and one other (Lucas or Stewart) would be the way to go for me. I'd think Lucas but everyone picked Stewart instead so I suppose my compassion got the best of me and I picked Lucas out of sympathy for Arn and Modo. 😀

Or we could ditch both of them and just go with Brannagan. 🙂

I think it's more the promise that Stewart can and will become more.

Why would he play that team? It's fucking horrible and we're playing Everton.

Lucas proved his versatility against Bournemouth; he really is just as fucking shit wherever he plays, so he can fuck off. Hopefully forever. Stewart isn'y very good either, so I'd be nervous about starting him. Thos midfield injuries really have screwed us. I'd hope that Lallana and Firmino can improve, as they've been below average recently, despite Formino's goal on Sunday. Ojo and Ibe did most to suggest they should be a part of this game, and obviously Sturridge will start.

Mignolet

Clyne-----Lovren------Sakho------Moreno

------------Milner------Allen-----------

Ojo/ Ibe----Firmino-------Coutinho

--------------Sturridge----------------

What the fuck has happened to Rossiter? Is he still injured? He was the great midfield hope.

Lucas is one the most physical players in the league and Allen have coped a lot better in the physical battles the last couple of months. I don't see any problem playing them together.

Allen will probably start in midfield and one of Lucas/Milner will get the other midfield place IMO.

I don't know why some expects a very physical game. The last games against them hasn't been physical at all compared to a couple of years ago.

I can't imagine Klopp not starting with Clyne & Moreno (especially after resting them). Origi got a knock in the back but is expected to be back for this after just 3 days (on PhysioRoom) so it can't be much at all if that's accurate. Sturridge looked immense and had no problems lasting the 90 vs. Bournemouth, certain starter.

I'm going with this team and us to win by 2 goals.

-------------------- Mignolet -----------------
Clyne ------ Lovren --- Sakho --- Moreno
--------------- Milner ----Allen ------------
Firmino----------Coutinho ------- Origi
--------------------Sturridge ------------------

subs (from): Ward, Skrtel, Flanno, Stewart, Brannagan, Lallana, Ibe, Ojo,

I'm a bit surprised he hasn't pushed on the last few months ... @gkmacca - anything holding him back?

Brannagan? I think they're just concentrating on working with him in the ressies for the mo. Barca sent a scout to look at him earlier this month, so he's still impressing, and I'm sure he'll get some games in the first team squad now that there are a few injuries.

Lucas is one of the most shit players in the league, arnold. Physically shit. Actually, totally, irredeemably shit.

If he starts the game in midfield, or any position, we will lose. Because he's shit.

Coleman, Jagielka and Baines (probably) are all out. Lukaku wasnt fit for the game on Saturday and will be tested before the game against us.
Him and Barkley are probably the two only players that I'm worried about.
Everton are shite at the moment and Martinez job is on line. These games live their own lives though, so anything can happen.
Play our strongest team possible to continue winning and climbing up the table.

I'd go;

Ming
Clyne Lovren Sakho Moreno
Stewart Allen
Milner Firmino Coutinho
Sturridge

Lucas is a bit like a bandage, sometimes you can't escape the fact that you need it, but you'll always been looking at it wishing you could throw it away.

Did anyone else notice that Allen seemed to be dropping quite deep to pick up the ball against Bournemouth? Just like Can does. I think we can take that as evidence of what Jurgen plans to do against Villarreal, Allen will play.

You should only use a bandage once. Lucas is like a soiled bandage. Useful if desperate, but if used for a prolonged period you'll get sepsis
