Liverpool vs Arsenal - Sat 5:30

Our midfield has been shite, if he excluded Alisson for being injured, I can't be too fussed about Ceballos being there.

This video has me worried. If Phil Neville could clearly pin-point our defensive problems this season, surely Emery can too – and in the likes of Auba and Lacazette he has the perfect tools to punish our high line. The amount of clear-cut chances Norwich and Saints were allowed to create shows something's not quite right and if Klopp didn't spend this week solving this this very issue, we could become unstuck when faced with a quality attack and a tactically astute gameplan.

Eh ?! Everybody in world football knows TAA is a weak link defensively because his attacking prowess means he's often advanced and he's not a world class defender anyway, Neville isn't some sort of mastermind in picking that out ! Many teams have tried to beat our defensive high line (and I saw a stat the other day that negated the thought we are higher this season) and very few do, due to our defensive pace. There is nothing in that 12 mins that highlights anything different from the past 12 months. Though yes of course it is our problem area.

As I've mentioned a few times Arsenal are a team this season that will score often but concede often too. I've always liked Auba and Lacazette and Tierney too (I wanted him before we signed Robbo) although he won't start due to injury. I see us winning 2-1 or 3-1 this weekend.

It's funny. I mean sure we've looked a bit shaky in defence, but seriously people it's Arsenal. Their entire line up is geared towards attacking, we're gonna find more flaws defensively in their game than ours.
It's a classic they should be worried about us, not us about them.

I hope you're right but I think we've looked reasonably shaky defensively against Norwich and Soton.
City and Chelsea both cut us to pieces in the 1st halves of our games - and City were lacking Kun.
I hope we're ready to face one of the best attacking units we'll face this season.

Normally I wouldn't worry to much as we made sure all players came into pace and acknowledge some of them still a bit leggy from pre season. But the new situation with Allison out is not good. He mean stability and trust while all of a sudden there is a unsecure factor back there. A bit like Sakho, which means that it often will be ok but certainly no guarantees. Van Dijk and Matip will have to move their legs for this one.

I agree, I mean yeah we looked a bit iffy against both City and Chelsea but it was also the first games of the season. I think us at home vs Arsenal, and I really must emphasize how important it is that this fixture is at home, is enough to overpower them. Had this fixture been away this early in the season and considering our somewhat shaky performances, I'd be just as worried as you. But hey...I could be wrong.

I think weve looked a bit complacent at the back this season at times, weve pushed too high in situations where our midfield were not in position to squeeze the opposition. Arsenal have the pace all across the front line to hurt us if they can best the press. They key to this will be pressuring them high up the park before they can pick their passes. Massive shoft required from Hendo, Gini and Firmino pressing from the front.

Klopp PC:
  • Cnamberlain really good this week - best he's seen him
  • Keita out for a few weeks yet
  • No date yet for Alisson
  • Normally get to spend 20 mins a week on tactical stuff - this week spent 3 days
Reckon Chamberlain will start tomorrow

I think the main point wasn’t about TAA, by about the needlessly high line that results in our defenders having to run towards our goal a lot. This led to Giroud and Pukki goals and several great chances for Southampton.

Reckon Keita and Alisson won't be involved tomorrow.

There are pros and cons to a high line. I think last season proved that when we've fine tuned it then it's better than dropping off 10m, especially with the pace of especially VvD & Gomez but also Robbo and TAA.
The issue isn't will we concede goals with a high line, obviously from time to time we will, but will we concede less than dropping off. Take a look at last season for the answer to that.

Last season has nothing to do with it - by all indications we were not pushing up as high all the time. We’ve already allowed Norwich and Saints more clear-cut chances than in almost any game last season (against much stronger opponents). You could say it’s early doors and all that, but last season our defense was watertight from the get-go. Having Adrian in place of Alisson only exacerbates the situation.

Yes, I’m worried. Let’s hope Klopp found the solution in training this week.

Last season has everything to do with it because of our defensive record. So all this talk of conceding due to our high line is totally inaccurate as last season should be the baseline for that.

I understand that you, and me and all LFC fans, are worried that we've conceded more than expected but I don't think that us playing an ultra-high line is the reason, maybe the short Summer and mental fatigue is the issue.

As I said (I'll have a look for it tomorrow) there are stats showing we have not played a higher line so far this season than last season so I don't get the hand-wringing angst. Someone in the media mentioned it (without stats, I forget who but I did see a video so it must be one of the usual suspects) and its been taken up as fact by some fans.

We didn't play particularly high (or should I say a higher line to last season) against City or Chelsea and you'd expect a high line against Norwich and Saints. Does anyone seriously think Klopp is so tactically naive as to be pushing us higher and higher ? Of course no-one would even consider the players would do it off their own bat ! So the theory we are holding a higher line doesn't hold water, logically how often we hold a high line simply depends on the opposition.

I'm worried about this. Their attack will cause us issues - we've looked defensively frail in all our games so far - and I'm far from convinced by Adrian between the sticks.

4-2

I dreamt 5-0 last night but that didn't even make sense. I mean unless we actually are playing the match in airport security

Like the old Nike Brazil advert? Cool dream!

We'll concede I reckon, defence isn't up to par yet, Klopp's old striker playing against us & Adrian isn't Allison, so to be expected, but should be able to score at least a couple ourselves.

This weather plus later kick off means at least half the ground will be pissed & the atmosphere should be pretty decent too.
