Perhaps one of the biggest tests we'll have all season long...if we can get through this game and get a result at City things will start to look promising. I'm going for a 2-1 win.

Predicted lineup:

Reina

Johnson Carragher Skrtel Aurelio

Maxi Gerrard Poulsen Cole

Jovanovic Ngog

I don't know if this will happen but in my opinion this is the best team for the opening game against Arsenal:

Reina

Johnson Carragher Skrtel Aurelio

Gerrard Mascherano

Maxi Cole Jovanovic

Ngog

By my count:

-Fabregas already has his head turned and will not give a rats arse this season especially this game.

-Van Persie still isn't fully healthy.

and

-Bentdner sucks.

Should be an easy 2-0 win for the Redmen

If Fabregas head is turned than Mascherano's has fallen off. He only turns up in or around transfer windows these days.

Not completely sure who's fit & who isn't, I think the team picked will be this;

Reina

Johnson
Skrtel
Carra
Aurelio

Kuyt
Gerrard
Lucas
Jova

Cole
N'Gog

We will win 2 goals to 1 cole will score but still no back up for torres. New season with n'gog up front makes me sad.

Reina

Johnson Carra Skrtel Agger

Gerrard Lucas

Cole Aquilani Jova

Ngog

Thats my guess, as players like maxi, kuyt, babel etc are returning from holidays and havent had much time to train or get fit. I also wouldnt be suprised if reina didnt start this match as he isnt match fit but he is a GK so he might not really need to be 100% fit

Kuyt will play. If there's one player who'd keep himself fit over the summer, it would be Dirk.

Reina too, I'm certain.

Even Torres has been mentioned as a possibility for the game by Hodgson.

Is Agger definitely injured? Assuming Agger and Torres don't make it, and that Mascher isn't risked, I think the team might look like this:

Reina

Magic - Carra - Skrtel - Aurelio

Gerrard - Lucas

Maxi - Cole - Jovanovic

Kuyt

Very difficult to predict a season opener. Last time out Arsenal started like a house on fire and we, well, best forgotten. Scrappy draw.

We'll stuff them

Arsenal have used their pre-season well. I think they will be fitter than our team.

I don't have high hopes for this game, but i do have high hopes for the season. I think we can do top 3.

Will Lucas really play? I tend to doubt it. He was here in the US for a friendly for Brazil today.

He'll be absolutely exhausted from passing it square to Alves at fullback.

I think Mash and Gerrard will be our CM on Sunday.

Reina
Magic Carra Skrtel Fab
Maxi/Kuyt Gerrard Mash Jovanovic
Cole Torres

We'll win 2-1.

Arsenal are facing up to an injury crisis remarkable even by their standards with two 18-year-olds set to make their Premier League debut for the club in the centre of midfield at Liverpool on Sunday.

Having begun last season with six players ruled out with injury, the Gunners are set to register what might well be a new record by kicking off the 2010/11 campaign with between seven and nine first-team regulars deemed unavailable.

A full injury bulletin will only be provided on Friday, but it is increasingly likely that both Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong will both start against Liverpool. In addition to long-term injury casualty Aaron Ramsey, Arsene Wenger is expected to be deprived of four other central midfielders in Cesc Fabregas, Abou Diaby, Alex Song and Denilson.

Wenger confirmed on Monday that he expects Fabregas, as well as Robin van Persie, to be 'short' for the trip to Anfield, while Song, Denilson and Diaby failed to appear for a single minute of Arsenal's final three pre-season fixtures.

Nicklas Bendtner will be out of action until October after undergoing groin surgery, while there are also fitness doubts against Johan Djourou and Andrei Arshavin. Neither player featured in the 6-5 win over Legia Warsaw, with Wenger confirming afterwards that "We played 100 per cent of what was available".

Wenger does at least have no injury concerns over any of his goalkeepers, with Manuel Almunia, Lukasz Fabianski and Wojciech Szczesny all in contention to start in goal. Following Fabianski's latest horror show in Warsaw, there has been growing speculation that the 20-year-old Szczesny will be selected at Anfield, although with two teenage debutants in midfield Wenger might look more favourably on the experience of Almunia.

From F365...

I don't know why frimpong would start though as even if all those players were definitely ruled out they could still play a midfield five of Eboue, Nasri, Wilshire, Rosicky and Walcott with Chamakh up front.

Still obvoiusly be big boost if cesc and vp were out and that russian cunt too for that matter.

Is that Koncielsky any good?

Think they pai 8.5 million for him, surprised there's been little news thus far on him.

That's great news. A win in our first game of the season against a top four side would be a perfect start.

I'm slightly worried at the prospect of jack Wilshere starting against us.

He's got the potential and what a stage to shine on against us.

I think there is ZERO chance of mash starting.

Arshavin will play and score 4 against us

what's worse?

a) arse shaving's shhhhh

b) cahill's corner flag boxing

c) keane spastic somersault

Arsenal are obviously a good team, but we usually beat them at Anfield, and there'll be a lot of optimism and determination with it being the first game of the season under a new manager. I doubt whether their midfield will be as inexperienced as suggested there, but even so if we have Gerrard and Mascher in the middle, we should be able to dominate them physically - and any defence that has just conceded five goals to Legia Warsaw is going to be feeling pretty nervous and vulnerable going to Anfield.

I think we'll win.

Do you think Mascher will play? I don't. There is too much riding on his sale for Hodgson if he is going to have ant cash to strengthen. Poulson is all but signed as Mascher's replacement. I think it will be Lucas and Gerrard again in CM.

Agger isn't injured and Poulsen will start.

I don't want him to play either. The cunt doesn't want to play for us PLUS we want max cash, not an injured player.
