It was a preseason training match for the reserve team.

Yes, it was very much the reserves wasn't it?

I wonder if this is an economic way of getting the reserves fit for the start of the season - flying them to Switzerland and accommodating them in posh hotels? Maybe it's intended to be a morale-booster.

Could well be. I think it's always a boost to the ressies anyway, or definitely a sense of 'make or break', when a new manager takes over. Someone new looking at them with fresh eyes. So this is where we might see a few of them given a bit more responsibility and game time, and a few of them shipped out.

Despite the typical pre-season feeling of yesterdays game, I think it's clear there's some talent in there, either as sell-ons or to be pushing for the fringes of the squad.

I really don't rate yer boy Spearing though, and I'm not too overawed by Darby either.

No, I am afraid they are not going to make it to the top level.

I thought the commentary on LFC TV was awful. The two guys, whoever they were, just chatted to each other as if they were having a drink in a pub. Not being that familiar with the reserve team, I would really have liked to know who was on the ball and who was passing to who. This information was rarely forthcoming. I became suspicious as to whether the commentators knew the players themselves! In fact I wondered whether they actually knew they were supposed to be providing a commentary and their mikes were switched on.

:🙂

I'd go with those scores. Good fitness and great effort by the lads, closing down early and really pressing. Pretty typical fare all round littered with mistakes and players not reading what other players were doing but a genuine work out against fit side in their season already. Ayala was really excellent and the cow and the cake really do look like potential first teamers. Quick and dangerous.

Haha. Nice.

I couldn't disagree more. The current vogue for posters making up their own nicknames for players and inviting us to try and work out who the fuck they are talking about is getting on my tits.

🙂

Don't get grumpy Portly.. 😉

I assume Amoo = Cow
Eccleston = Cake

although the second is a tad tenuous.
I am sure Bren will have more flowery ones if they get into the first team

regards

Thanks for explaining that to me Vlad! 🙂

Very good.

I certainly wouldn't have spent half a milllisecond trying to work them out for myself.

I dont get the Eccleston = cake one.

Is it an English kind of cake?
An Eccles cake is a small, round cake filled with currants and made from puff pastry with butter and topped with demerara sugar.

There fucking awful

Well Éclairs are some kind of cakes/desserts.

But who knows how the wonderful mind of Brenden works? It surely works in mysterious ways. For his ways are higher than our ways, his thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

I couldn't disagree more! Eccles cakes are delicious! A crisp, sugary puff pastry case containg a soft filling of sweet raisins.

As a diabetic I can't eat them. :🙂

The Cow and Cake sounds like a pub that Amoo and Eccleston will open together when they retire.

They're fucking gorgeous!

And are more likely to be called 'dead fly cakes' in the north west.

I hate raisins they remind of rabbit shit.

I've never tasted rabbit shit.

Managed to catch the whole game live on Setanta in Australia last night, couldn't be fucked posting after the game as it was 5am... anyway... the gen

Ayalla was the best player of the pitch. The lad looks a real prospect - strong, not slow, good in the air, can tackle, read the game well and is relatively comfortable onm the ball. No-one else really stood out. Amoo had a few runs down the right, but nothing really came of them

Shevley didn't do much, but he had the sort of gangly look that Gerrard had in the early yeasr when he was still fillng out and slotted in nicely to that centre mid role.

We started off playing what looked like 4-5-1 withN'gog often isolated as the striker. Acqualani, Lucas & Spearing patrolled the middle but all played quite deep to start with. We moived to a more traditional 4-4-2 when LDV came on, with I think Eccelstone upfront.

Degen was probably the worst player on the pitch and got skinned a few times. We created very little in the way of clear opportunities and our final ball was predictably rusty for this time of the season. We were lucky not to conceed at least one (Degen's fault)

It was a glorified training session and I wouldn't read anything in to it at all in terms of personnel or tactics.. other than Ayalla is ready to challenge for a role in the first team.

All in all it was very meh?

The only other thing of note was Riera not playing.. which means he's almost certainly gone.

Do you eat sausages?

I love 'em - have 'em on my cereal every morning.

I gave someone a birthday card yesterday which had a picture of a little baby next to a live rabbit, with the caption: "Jimmy loved his new toy rabbit, 'coz whenever he poked it in the eye he got currants."

Eccleston cakes are really terrible

Raisins, currants and sultanas are just *wrong*
No they are just grapes 😉
