Newspapers are saying it's a done deal.

Olympiakos have signed Albert Riera according to their coach Ewald Lienen. The £4.5 million deal is a record for a Greek club. Riera is set to pick up more than £2 million a year. Meanwhile Philipp Degen has been told he can leave Anfield. Roy Hodgson informed the Swiss international he would not stand in his way should another club express an interest and a deal be arranged. The Liverpool boss does not believe reserve team football will benefit Degen. "Philipp didn’t get a look in last year and will find it hard to get a look in this year," he said. "If he wants to play regularly, he needs to find a club that will say you are our number one man. "He’s not going to be the number one man here with us, so does he want another long season playing on the bench not getting any games? "He’s too old to play for the reserves, he’s an ex-Swiss international and if he wants his international place back, then he is going to have to look elsewhere."

No one said it's rosy, people have just pointed out that so far it's going well and he's done what most people wanted him to do and signed a good player in the process, and Gerrard has committed his future.

We were just pointing out it's a slightly better picture than the "end of the World is nigh" one that you've littered every fucking thread with for the last few weeks.

And how you've turned Woy's comments around!! How clever, given you've told us he's a yes man quite alot too.

To be honest the only people who played well were the defence in particular Ayala who looked classy. Everyone else was pretty bog standard, Amoo looks lively but it was a typical pre season friendly for Liverpool nothing much going on.

from what i remember:
cava - 7 - rock solid
degen - 5 - poor and irratic
ayala - 8 - MoM very assured
kelly - 7 - ok
darby - 7 - ok, improved as game went on
amoo/ecclestone - 7 - very raw but very pacy
spearing - 4 - not a liverpool player, amazing that some thought he was better than lucas.
lucas - 5 - anoynmous
aqua - 6 - nice touches here and there
ngog - 7 - looked good and lively

subs - cant be bothered with them all
shelvey - very tidy player

All in all an ok performance, but the lack of possession in the second half when the side got weaker was noticeable, contrast this to what you might expect of an arsenal team at the same level and the difference would be embarrasing.
 
I'd go with those scores. Good fitness and great effort by the lads, closing down early and really pressing. Pretty typical fare all round littered with mistakes and players not reading what other players were doing but a genuine work out against fit side in their season already. Ayala was really excellent and the cow and the cake really do look like potential first teamers. Quick and dangerous.

Agreed, I also though Gulácsi played well (I think he has come on a lot this past season).

My first impression was that he kinda shied away from any physical contact.
He wants the ball, and he's comfortable with it. Didn't do a lot to be honest but it's promising.
 
It was a preseason training match for the reserve team. I think any 'conclusions' would be a bit pointless and premature.

I liked what I saw of Amoo, but this is hardly the same as playing in the PL.
