I think with the exception of Adrain's mistake for their first, and the overly casual defending for the second, the main difference was their quality on the bench vs ours.
having players like Origi and Lallana on our bench does us no favors when it comes down to game changers

We need to bring in some real Game changers this summer and it does have to cost the earth to do so.

The Ox played one of his best games tonight, but this game is only the second that I can remember him doing so. Yes, he has scored in some games, but I refer to the work he has put in of the time on the pitch, and not his usual 20 mins before going missing

Origi... Not the same player that use to terrorize players he ran at and took on, and just Like the Ox has scored goal on occasion

Lallana... great work rate, but beside that little else

Lovren...great on his day, injury prone and prone to brain farts

Adrain... For the past couple of games, ever since the parry that gifted William that in the FA cup I have noticed just how many times he seems to parry what should be easy shots to stop, as if he is either getting the angle of the ball wrong or he is uncomfortable handling it

Time summer we need a CB... I would opt for Tyrone Mings: - replacement for Lovren and should be cheap if Villa goes down. Talks to his defense, something only VVD does and can organize which would prove vital if we were to lose VVD to injury

A midfielder... Sabitzer RB Leipzig's Great work rate, Intelligent runs and finds the net regular
Or... Kai Havertz :- kids doing nothing wrong, would be a great addition to the midfield and give us some much needed fire power from there

Striker... Timo Werner :- Scoring for fun, need someone that can offer us that, and has great speed and loves to take on defenders. Origi not offering us that anymore. Only problem with him is would he except that he would play a rotational role

We have to splash the cast this summer because we need to improve if we want to win the title again next season. Both Chelsea and Utd will, Arsenal to a lesser extent and maybe even Spurs

It is not all about marquee signing. it is about players that are better than what we already have, players that can give us more and something different from the bench, or better than we have in the starting eleven

To be honest Ox was our man who did that running at them, but you could only do it for a certain amount of time.

I like Ox but he's more of a brute force of nature rather than dribbler...KDB now that is a player that could provide a different type of dynamism to this team, his dribbling is dangerous and movement intelligent. I'm not saying we need to go down the Pep route of playing 1000 flowery passes a game I just would like to see a player in midfield that offered a ball running threat to upset and occasionally cut through massed defences. Atletico played their tactics well because they didn't really have to worry from a threat from midfield, they knew what we would do and we nearly did it...but when you have 34 shots we just came up short and my thinking is an intelligent midfield ball dribbler gives the opposition something else to think about.

Klopp keeps complaining about teams that sit deep and defend but maybe its up to him to find a solution as well. Gini/Hendo/Fabs/Milner great players but you know what to expect.

Been saying that for a while, the issue is that he wants 3 workhorses in midfield and expects the trickery to come from Bobby, he has hardly changed the system in the last 2.5 seasons since we sold Coutinho. So whoever we get to do that level of dribbling will have to be a replacement for Bobby. Would not mind that guy from Wolves.

To be honest, i am a little shocked by tonights goals from AM - they just came from nothingand each one totally unexpected. Totally fucks my head up.

I still think we are an awesome team...tiredness has come at a bad time, but that is expected with the way Klopp expects his players to play...Maybe it shows up a limitation of Klopp's tactics that when one of his main weapons 'endurance' is missing then we seem vulnerable to be pipped in games.

Adrian was fucking horrendous at the weekend and no better today. He was also quite decent at the start of the season. The two don't have to be incompatible.

Adrian will be devastated I'm sure. The realisation that all the hard work done by your team mates over 100 minutes has been ruined by your mistakes will be hard to take and I hope someone supports him.

Mignolet was not the answer, nor is Adrian. I'm not sure who is. If we really do have an A1 goalkeeper who is sufficiently fragile to need a decent deputy, where do you find someone of similar quality to play irregularly as back up?

I mean... Haivertz and Werner would massively be marquee signings

Even if we get those two players I still would like to see Firmino occasionally in midfield, Firmino obviously has the work rate to be a midfielder, whilst Werner can just take over upfront and be that deadly centre forward we need. Firmino played as an attacking mid for years didn't he?

You can't. It's an insoluble problem.

Let's just hope Allisson stays fit from now on.

I think a better approach having read the comments about scrapping away goal rules would be to discount away goals weighting if scored in extra time. Does not change the fact we would have still lost the game as it ended 4- 2 on aggregate.

I think removing the away goals in extra time is the correct thing to do. Or go straight to pens.

Straight to Pens, and then you have that old argument about football not been the winner and penalties being a lottery - Should be reserved for the league cup though, and maybe FA cup when the season schedule is very busy.

Just want to add that Klopp looked so deflated and lost after yesterday's game - as much as many of us felt. There are two ways to look at it:

1) I think this will force him to buy a player who has X-factor this summer to break down these walls, Klopp is reactive and he knows what to do in these situations. He will want to make sure these park the bus type mother fuckers are dealt properly next season.

2) Getting out of this competition may have been the best thing for us with that virus going around, the league is enough for us this season, probably best the players win this title and just fuck off for a long rest in isolation. Job is done in terms of our primary goal.

This type of talk always pops up when we get knocked out by away goals or something. We had the advantage of playing at home for the last 30 mins not Madrid.
They won fair and square.

Nah - it’s been a thing for decades now. The away team on the second leg is superbly advantaged by the extra time away goals rule. Golden goal solution.

It's cruel that if we'd been scheduled for next week, like City, we'd have Alisson back before the rescheduled tie.

You can argue we've got home advantage for an additional 30 minutes, but that doesn't outweigh the away goal benefit at all. It should be scrapped.
