Liverpool signings will get wide berth in summer

Liverpool and Newcastle scouts are expected to take a keen interest in England's newest squad member Matt Jarvis when he pushes for a place in the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales this weekend according to the Metro.

Liverpool scout Jakob Friis-Hansen will be watching should Jarvis get any amount of game time, with Reds manager Kenny Dalglish notably looking for a winger to provide crosses to key front-man Andy Carroll.

The qualifier with Wales is an ideal time to see if the Jarvis-Carroll supply partnership could work, and with England boss Fabio Capello strongly supporting both the Wolves winger and Carroll, their quest for further glory looks imminent.

Jarvis' pace and delivery has been outstanding so far this season and he ranks amongst the Premier Leagues top 10 for key passes in a match.

The 24-year-old creates plenty chances and also ranks second in the league for crosses into the area behind Aston Villa's Stewart Downing.

Plush with transfer funds, Newcastle pose the biggest threat to Liverpool's chances of singing Jarvis, who in 2007 was worth just £600,000.

An international call-up is likely to slap a cool £1million on top of Jarvis' price tag, however the Fernando Torres and Carroll January transfers show just what can happen when two big clubs go head-to-head for a signature.

Jakob friis hansen got sacked yonks ago.

Ha Ha - I don't see any good young player choosing Newcastle over us, Spurs or United (top PL teams who need wingers come the Summer).

Yeah, apparently one of the 6 scouts to be sacked in Jan. Reports dating Feb 11 over various sites still had him as our scout though. Seeing his the dad of Martin Hansen, might be kept/helping out in some capacity? 😛

Anyway...

If Matt Jarvis makes his England debut against Wales on Saturday, the Wolverhampton winger knows who to credit with giving him the inspiration to dream of reaching the international stage. It is not an Englishman, however, but a Welshman: Ryan Giggs.

Jarvis grew up as a Manchester United fan in Guildford, Surrey, and hoped one day to emulate his hero. "Giggs played in the same position and was jinking in and out and making great crosses," Jarvis said. "Obviously he has developed his game now, but that was what I was looking at when I was growing up."

*strikes name off list. :-X

Jarvis has bags of pace but im not sure he has what it takes to improve us. Especially when other players will be available in the summer. It would be a major 'meh' singing for me.

If Roy was linked to him he would have been slaughtered.

I like Jarvis and mentioned his name this summer when we were short of funds and players.

He'll be a good player for whoever that signs him.

Jarvis reminds me a bit of Milner at Newcastle.

Industrious, effective, great cross, but often dismissed because he's not a 'name'.

Like Ashley Young, he'd be a decent addition to the squad.

When was the last time a lesser name player (youngsters excluded) from a 'smaller' club or lower league was signed and make it at a top club? Haven't seen enough of Jarvis but how's he compared to someone like Adam Johnson?

Jarvis has pace to burn and gave Carragher a right shoeing in a foot race last season but Milner is more rounded player. I've nothing against Jarvis and he has improved a lot but I wouldn't spend more than a couple of million on him incase he doesn't cut it.

I would say the majority of English PL footballers ! Not many come through the ranks of the Top Clubs because the clubs often can't afford the game time to blood them and then keep giving them match-time.

I think you are missing Ryan's point, mate. He doesn't say we don't need quality wide players or good delivery from out wide.

Ryan is bang on. Saying that we just need wide players who can cross the ball and that is enough to get Carroll scoring 20 headers per season is way oversimplifying the matter. What we need is quality who'll bring fluency to our attacking play and as part of that equation we'll also get the best out of Carroll.
saying we need someone to just tear down the wing and cross is oversimplifying
Here's what you said yesterday, word-for-word:

"we need people to go down the wing and competently cross into the box, simple as."

I'm glad we've got that cleared up Neil, thanks.

I know I said that, no need to drag it up and as I said it is oversimplifying but having someone that can run down the wing and competently cross into the box would improve us, no question.

FFS Neil.

According to Kay and Barrett, Ashley Young has hinted that he wants to join us instead of Utd regardless of Europa qualification or not.

And getting in wingers isn't oversimplifing things. We need PACE. We need players that can carry the ball with pace to stretch defences and counter attack etc.

Its a no brainer. We also cross from the byline 1-3 times pr match, we'd score a shitload more goals if our crosses came from dangerous areas instead of the hoof from the middle of the field.
Our left wing is non excistent and has been for years.

We desperatly need pace and width.

Now that's good news. Fuck dirty Sanchez and bio Hazard.

We're apperantly interested in them aswell. According to the lad on RAWK who got everything right in january. This is the list of some of the targets, and Comolli wants something like 7 players this summer;

Adam
Young
Cahill
Baines
Hazard
Sanchez
Jarvis
Sissoko
Bojan
Erickson
Remy
Enrique
Dzsudzsak
Richards
A.Johnson

That's an impressive list, Hansern. The lad from RAWK posted this?

Can't wait for summer window to open.

He's a special lad. I remember when he was a kid he used come around here and help out with the house hold chores. He was a good boy, always in church on Sundays, sitting in the front row carrying the collection plate. You don't see them kinda kids nowadays with the hiphops and the doowaps and the watchamacallems..

Yeah, he posted it yesterday. He seems to have a good idea of whats going on acutally, and while you always have to take these things with a pinch of salt he's been very accurate so far.

He said there are deals in place for Young and Adam, but in the end it will depend on the players.

Reina is touch and go though, as many have said on here before. He wants FSG to show ambition and invest.

He also said there would be a lot of players leaving. NGog, Konchesky, Pouslen, Degen, El Zhar, Jovanovic and possibly Cole.

I'm a sucker for these thing, as I love a bit of gossip and rumours. But this lad seems to know his stuff. Time will tell, but I think it will be a very bright and positive summer.

It all sounds a bit too good to be true to be honest. Both those list are what transfer dreams are made of.

I know. It surely can't be that easy.. ;D

Hopefully Comolli and Kenny can see what nearly every fan can see in regards of those two lists.

that's just telling people what they want to hear. I'll believe it when I see it.

As I've said I'm a sucker for these gossip/rumours info.
Just posting what he said as I know a lot of other people on this forum likes it aswell.
