Hazard's an interesting case. Talented lad all right, but when I've seen him (admittedly in clips only) he's come inside off his wing a lot of the time, which IMO is not what we need. Same goes for Young, which is one reason why I don't really want him.
[/quote]

I don't have too much of a problem when wide players occasionally move inside (especially if the ball is on the other wing). I do however have a problem when wide players come inside the majority of the time with or without the ball. it's narrow, it's predictable, it's easy to defend against.

You're given a decent amount of space in france so it makes sense to cut in and try and get the goal. Here you won't have the space so you need to be able to do both. Hazard can imo

Sometimes there is debates on here for the sake of it. Makes good reading though.

We do need wingers, any fool could tell you that, irregardless of the signing of Carroll. It just so happens that an effective winger will also enhance his attributes, so all the better. Wingers will provide another dimension to our attack. I don't think anyone is advocating that our primary tactic should be to get it wide and swing it in to Carroll every time.

I would love Dirk on one side and a shit hot pacy as fuck winger on the left. I'd love to sign an exciting player who can go past players and hurt teams by getting behind them. What we don't want is a Pennant clone. I want an intelligent player who can beat a man and also have the guile to hurt a team as a result. These players cost money (Sanches, Hazard etc) and hopefully we have it to spend in the summer.

We've had too many false dawns, Gonzales, Reira, Pennant and even fucking Nunez has hogged our touchlines. We do need wingers but a proper intelligent footballer who can take us forward.

He'd be here to play football, not develop rockets. Suarez provides guile, Kuyt industry, Carrol, strength. Young would provide width, pace and directness. Different individuals providing different attributes so the team benefits as a whole. Lazy comments such as he's thick without an iota of evidence to back it up, is indeed thick.

You still haven't explained why it's a 'stereotypical comment' ... That to me is far thicker than anything Fabio has said. Young does come off as lazy on the pitch - he doesn't seem bothered in many games.

We're after a winger to open up defences are we not? Someone who knows when to pass, or shoot, or run.

Young more often than not makes the wrong one and chances go begging. Considering he's meant to be villas best player it doesn't bode well for them that they're quite low down. Their team isn't shit either, they have 2 decent wingers and decent forwards. if we can get young for 12mil then great, but i would much rather get PROPER quality, rather than a player who (as far as i'm concerned) likes being a big fish in a small pond

Maybe he needs a move to a top club with better players to re-ignite his desire on the pitch.

http://www.birminghammail.net/birmingham-sport/aston-villa-fc/aston-villa-news/2011/03/23/ashley-young-drops-biggest-hint-yet-that-he-may-stay-at-aston-villa-97319-28385503/

ASHLEY Young has hinted his future may lie at Villa Park by admitting he would love to score the club’s 1,000th Premier League goal.

The England winger recently reiterated his stance that he would not discuss his contract until the summer amid growing interest from the Premier League’s big boys.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool are all keen admirers of the 25-year-old but he insists his football is the priority at the moment and any contract issues will be resolved at the end of the season. Villa fans have been used to losing their best players to bigger clubs in recent years but they will be bouyed by the fact Young has set his sights on reaching the landmark, which currently stands at 925 goals.

This season, he has already scored Villa’s 500th Premier League goal on home soil after his brace in the 4-1 win over Blackburn last month, but the ambitious captain is targeting more joy.

“I wasn’t aware of that statistic but I’m delighted to be the one to get the 500th home goal,†he said.

“It’s a massive milestone for the club – maybe I can go on and get the 1,000th in all Premier League games.’’

In the past Young has given no clear indication as to where his future lies, however his recent comments suggest he may be considering an extended spell in the Midlands.

With just one year remaining on his current deal Young has a big decision to make at the end of the campaign, and like any other player he dreams of experiencing Champions League football – something he won’t be getting at Villa.

Young has tasted Europa League football after back-to-back top-six finishes for Villa and is keen on playing in the elite European competition.

After calling a halt to talks over a new £70,000-a-week four-year deal just before Christmas, £12 million-rated Young could leave in the summer to a club that guarantees him European action.

The former Watford star will also be aware that he stands a better chance of becoming an England regular before the 2012 European Championships if he is playing at the highest level.

Manager Gerard Houllier is powerless to stop him, however he has made the pace ace skipper and is also playing him in his favoured role behind the striker.

Young has always said he is happy at Villa and his desire to score the 1,000th Premier League supports that, although the lure of a top-four club could be too much to refuse.

The last time Young was quizzed on his contract he refused to go into detail saying: “I have always said I will leave talks until the end of the season and that’s how it is.

“Every time I pull on the shirt I go out to give 110 per cent for Villa.

“I am delighted to be playing in the position I am in, just behind themain striker, and doing well for the team.â€

yeah i'm trying to avoid that because it doesn't deserve recognition. If he thinks i am being then clearly he's being a bit soft

I don't think that's what he's implying. My impression is he thinks there is a stereotypical view of Ashley Young as a player and Fabio is going along with that. Or something.

Thats what i'm hoping it is. But my point is, if it is a supposed "stereotype" and more than a few people see it about this one particular person and this one particular individual....then how can it be a stereotype?

Surely it's just a different consensus on how he performs?

It's not like i've said anything like "all villa players are lazy" or "all english wingers are thick". It's impossible to use a stereotype in this situation unless he means something else.

I guess he means it a bit in this way:

6.
to characterize or regard as a stereotype: The actor has been stereotyped as a villain.

As in Young has been stereotyped as being lazy or whatever. Anyway I'm not agreeing with him, it's a silly and patronising argument. Just don't think he's implying you as being racist.

I would like not to be painted with that brush, and i never thought he was (Seriously), I just couldn't see what he was going on about. He just questions my football knowledge because it disagrees with him.

I seem to recall Kopking having some history for making this sort of allegation though.

I remember similar avvy, but i can't recall when or why. So theres no point dredging it up incase it's someone else

*edit* He called a few people racist when they said if sterling didn't provide end product he would be like SWP. Because he's small, black, overhyped at youth level with no end product.

£12M for Young would be a great price and represent excellent value for money.

I've watched a lot of him and Villa in recent years and his delivery is very impressive. He does have a tendency to go missing though and his career has stifled at Villa in recent years, but if we can get him back to his best then we'll have a bargain on our hands.

Liverpool and Newcastle scouts are expected to take a keen interest in England's newest squad member Matt Jarvis when he pushes for a place in the Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales this weekend according to the Metro.

Liverpool scout Jakob Friis-Hansen will be watching should Jarvis get any amount of game time, with Reds manager Kenny Dalglish notably looking for a winger to provide crosses to key front-man Andy Carroll.

The qualifier with Wales is an ideal time to see if the Jarvis-Carroll supply partnership could work, and with England boss Fabio Capello strongly supporting both the Wolves winger and Carroll, their quest for further glory looks imminent.

Jarvis' pace and delivery has been outstanding so far this season and he ranks amongst the Premier Leagues top 10 for key passes in a match.

The 24-year-old creates plenty chances and also ranks second in the league for crosses into the area behind Aston Villa's Stewart Downing.

Plush with transfer funds, Newcastle pose the biggest threat to Liverpool's chances of singing Jarvis, who in 2007 was worth just £600,000.

An international call-up is likely to slap a cool £1million on top of Jarvis' price tag, however the Fernando Torres and Carroll January transfers show just what can happen when two big clubs go head-to-head for a signature.
