Liverpool Sign Clyne (Confirmed)

Sorry, not buying. For all Clyne's disappointment and Hodgson's incompetence, you do not storm off down the tunnel by yourself like some spoiled brat.

You don't, but I understand his annoyance.

Putting Henderson at right back and claiming it as some "attacking" decision is ludicrous. Clyne has great attacking stats for a right back

I dont really see a problem with it tbh. I'd rather a player was disappointed for not playing then not giving a shite.
We also dont know the full story and Hodgson could obviously have handled his comments better, as usual.

Not really. I'm not saying I don't want players to show passion or be unhappy when they don't play, quite the contrary, but walking off in one of your first inclusions in the squad is out of order.

Incidentally, Wizzy, if you make allowances for the spelling of the surname, "Nathaniel Clyne" sounds Jewish, no? 😉

The only thing I have to say about this is that Hodgson was, is, and always will be a cunt. Everything else about this "incident" is based on the mumblings of that same cunt.

I'd normally be against it, but Hodgson is one manager who seems to go out of his way to 'test' how subservient he can get his players to be. Remember that friendly game before the last world cup when Sturridge was injured - plainly injured - in the first half, and Hodgson played him on, even though he was limping, for the whole match simply because 'I wanted to assess his character'? I doubt Sturridge's subsequent injury niggles haven't stemmed in part from that idiotically reckless decision. Then he hangs Sterling out to dry by revealing/inventing the 'tiredness' comment? I don't condone it but, frankly, this man can't complain if he gets something thrown back at him every now and again.

100% wanker:

Roy Hodgson has said he has no reason to apologise for gambling with Daniel Sturridge's fitness for England, claiming he had not been unfair on the player and was entitled to "test his resolve a little bit".

Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager, has criticised Sturridge for playing in the friendly against Germany on 19 November and then returning to Anfield in a condition that meant the striker was left out of his club's starting line-up for theMerseyside derby the following weekend.

Sturridge, who played for the whole 90 minutes against Germany, complained of having a thigh problem in the build-up to the 1-0 defeat at Wembley but Hodgson said he had no regrets making him play the full match.

"The good thing for me was that he did get out there. Daniel has pulled out of a few matches with us for injury reasons. He has been unlucky. It was important for me, if you like, to test his resolve a little bit.

"I suppose you could argue we did put his resolve to the test. I might have been guilty of that but I don't apologise for it. I am delighted he did get out there, even though he maybe didn't feel 100%, because that means in the future I will know I can trust him in an England team and he is not going to be playing when he feels like it – he is going to be playing when he's fit."

Sturridge is now facing a possible two months on the sidelines after damaging his ankle during a training session with Liverpool last Friday. "They are better [off] getting injured now," Hodgson said of his own priorities, looking ahead to the World Cup next summer.

Hodgson -

"Christian (Poulsen) is an all-round player. He is capable of scoring goals, a good passer of the ball and a good defender too. I don’t see him being limited to one particular role. For me, it was a very simple decision when I heard he might be available at what we considered to be a very reasonable price."

Hodgson -

"They'll pressure us, they'll be young and athletic, and our scouts have been quite impressed by what they've seen. They'll be a formidable challenge - there's no question about that."

about Northampton!!

Not at all relevant except to support the notion that Hodgson is possibly the biggest tosser in football...

I've read that about 10 times now and it still doesn't make sense. So let me get this straight - Sturridge kept declaring himself unfit, so Hodgson thought he'd call his bluff. Sturridge then got injured, but it's ok because Hodgson now knows that if Sturridge is unfit in the future, he'll declare himself so.

Right, so remind me again what the fuck you have learned, you face-rubbing, defeatist, dithering old twat?

I'm flummoxed by that. So basically, he wanted to check a player was telling the truth, now that he's found out he was, he isn't bothered that he damaged his health because you know, he knows that in future, Sturridge will continue to tell the truth.

He's so thuddingly thick it beggars belief. He probably thinks all streams are really shallow because the water only comes up half way on the ducks. He needs smacking round the head. Lots of times.

"Well I guess they weren't a witch after all. I've to head off okay. I'll see you later".

Clyne also snubbed Hodge when he told the player to go home and spend the evening chilling out listening to his i-pod. That's right: Clyne declyned Eine Clyne Nachtmusik!

Considering Roys IQ is probably in line with the average person back then, its no surprise how similar his line of thinking is to that of the witchcraft trials of the middle ages.

Wasn't Tarbuck questioned by Operation Yewtree.. ??

How I wish Operation Yewtree would delve in Roy Hodgson's past and unearth some gems..

He is the sole reason why I have no interest in England...

...And then there was the lady who was vewy, vewy, insistent that she was not a witch, and pwoduced a wemarkably thorough set of weferences in support of that, er, assertion, if you like, and I did take all of that into account, but I still ordered my men to hold her under water for the wequisite length - or, if you like, duwation - of time, because I wanted to assess for myself just how good - or, if you like, bad - she was at bweathing under water. The fact that she we-emerged as dead as the pwoverbial dodo is, for me,neither here nor there. I learnt something fwom it, and therefore make no apologies for letting it happen. - Er, is my watch in shot? Good! - Now, as for Bwendan Wodgers, whom we suspected - or, if you like, conjectured - was a warlock, well, he did pwotest that he was only a 'false warlock,' whatever that is when it's at home, but the water seemed to say otherwise. Indeed, I'd like to put on wecord here my gwatitude to one of my associates, Mr Pascoe, for dunking Bwendan quite as wigorously - or, if you like, assiduously - as he did. For ten hours. It's that kind of commitment that I'm expecting of all of my team as we seek to dwive out all twace of tiki-taka sowcery from this island.

Quite, he IS Belvedere off The Holy Grail:

Belvedere: Tell me. What do you do with witches?
Villages: BUUUURN!!!!! BUUUUUURRRRNN!!!!! You BURN them!!!! BURN!!
B: And what do you burn apart from witches?
Villager: More Witches!
Other Villager: Wood.
B: So. Why do witches burn?

(long silence)

(shuffling of feet by the villagers)

Villager: (tentatively) Because they're made of.....wood?
B: Goooood!

It's Small Man Syndrome translated to football management. He knows he's mediocre and out of place at top level, so he has to try and assert the contrary and this is one way of doing that. Deep down he's trying to convince himself as much as anyone else, and failing in both respects.

Anyway, back on Clyne / full backs. I'm not really so hot about spending big on a full back, unless it's cash burning a hole in the pocket. It seems to me that, in general, paying more just gets you a player with better attacking threat but lower defensive ability. Right now, I feel that what we need is a full back who can be relied upon to do a consistent and solid job defensively, even if he's not that spectacular going forward, i.e. a Flanagan-type. If we only need to pay half-price for a "boring" player like that, all the better.

I still can't figure out what Manquillo did wrong. He seemed pretty solid if unspectacular to me.

Yeah me too, he had a few off games before he got dropped, but by and large he defended well. He didn't dive in, he knew when to put a foot in and when to hold the player up, the only really issue was that he had nothing of note going forward. If we were playing four at the back, he'd be ideal as he tucks inside, covers and reads the game pretty well.
