Iceland wonderkid Kristján Gauti Emilsson, 16, is set to sign for Liverpool later this week. The centre back, who also had trials with Manchester United and Rangers, was offered a contract after impressing Rafa Benitez.

Emilsson, who plays for Icelandic champions FH, has always supported Liverpool and described the move to Anfield as a 'dream come true'.

:🙂

I don't like Rafa the manager, I like what Rafa has done to our club it seems like it his doing this.

also we're getting a lot of players used to the cold. Rafa doesn't want the weather to be a reason to lose players (Robinho's eminent future).

I hate words or phrases like 'wonderkid' 'prodigy' 'described as next.....'

Bollox, he'll end up in the reserves till he's 21 and moving to a Spanish league 2 side, never to be heard of again.

So you think we should stop signing 16 year olds?

Forget about the future and taking a chance on talent because there all naff?

Not a fan of the Wenger or Ferguson approach then.

Oh wait Chelsea buy up youngsters as well.

More in to the Allerdyce or Redknapp approach are we??? ;D

I'm in favour of the Chavs and Scum approach.

Buy proven fucking quality and *magically* you'll end up with a title.

You have to do both.

Why are you always foaming at the mouth?

Relax.

It's part and parcel of being a Liverpool supporter this season.

Surely you don't come onto a Football forum and expect rationale?

I know, that's why we buy 16 year old Icelandic kids who will end up in the Spanish League 2 at the age of 21.

Or 17 year old Argentinians that end up in the first team and are worth far more than we paid for them...

You talk about Utd, well in recent years they've sold Pique for 10, Rossi for 8M, Richardson for 5M etc. etc. It's a relatively low risk strategy that can offer significant rewards either in terms of players or money to buy *proven fucking quality*.

Come on Keni, you're off you're rocker if you think Insua is:

i) a worthy successor to Riise

ii) worth more than a few million

iii) a long term solution for our LB slot

He wouldn't get into any of the Top 6 PL teams, and rightly so.

He's a 20 year old with significant experience at international level (although most of it for the U-21's at this point) as well as for Liverpool "at the highest level". He was in demand whilst he was still in the reserves, so yeah, he's definitely worth more than a couple million.

He doesn't need to be a long-term solution for our LB slot in order to be classed a success. He's already a success because he's a youngster we've brought into our first team and this means at the very least that we'll make money on him or save money by using him as a squad player AND we can use him as an example to future youth.

So does this youngster pass the much-required 'Won't get homesick' test?

If not, get rid.

Good news that we are still attracting supposed top talents.

How anyone can be bitching about this is beyond me and surely underlines to me that they know very little of the food chain in International football of today.

As Keni as already said a player like Insua who's made the grade covers 5-10 new talented youngsters in terms of value.

Pacheco, Ngog and Kelly are others who could turn out to be of great value not only for the club in the short run but also in terms of value in the longer run - this even if they don't make it to be a regular starter in our first XI.

You'll have to be owned by a Russian billionaire if you were to neglect the important work of honing young talents, at least if you are to compete with the very best.

Erm........3 PL titles in a Row + CL

Chavs.....2 PL titles in a Row

Were you trying to make a point about anything in particular?

That their approach is far from flawless and they spend - much more heavily than us - on youth players and hope for the best.

At the expense of squad depth, we've been trying to add proven quality over the last 2-3 years:

Mascherano, Alonso, Aquilani, Keane, Torres, Johnson all valued between £20 and £30M

So I really don't understand your point at all.
