Liverpool the only team in the PL to have a better record against teams in the Top 10 than in the Bottom 10 !

Ha ha. Thanks whoever made this into a thread .. I wasn't sure whether to or not. It's an interesting stat, but of course it means it is easier for us to improve than if it were vice-versa.

Well, its hardly a good thing that we're not good at beating poorer sides, is it? Considering most sides are poorer than us, and well, it should be easier to beat them.

Did you mean this as a positive stat?

Would this be down to bad management, underestimating the poorer sides?

Probably that we lost to some crap teams early in the season when we weren't plying well.

I do like the stat about Rodgers improving teams consistently each season. It makes me hopeful that if we have a settled summer with a few good additions (now we've got a bit of squad depth) that we can come out of the traps flying and just get better.

Well put another way, it's easier to improve enough to start beating the Bottom 10 than it would be if the vice-versa were true.

We actually lost more games to the top 10 than to the crap 10.
Crap 10 defeats: Newcastle, Palace and Villa.
Top 10 defeats: West Ham, Chelsea, City and ManU.

One key difference is the games Sturridge was available for. In the 9 league games Sturridge has been healthy for so far this season, 7 of them were against the current top 10. Result: 2 wins against Soton, split games against City, 2 wins against Spurs, 1 win against West Ham (he missed our away defeat to them). While he didn't always score, assist or play a significant role in all these games, his presence in the team was always a boost. He had 2 goals and 2 assists in these 7 games combined.

If we'd had Sturridge available against the Crap 10, our record against them would've been a lot better.

Quite possibly, but the overall pattern isn't new. Time and again we've had decent records against the top teams, and time and again we've p!$$ed away any advantage that might have given us, because of poor performances against some of the rest. Getting this right consistently will be a key factor in getting back to the top and staying there.

In the past probably. However, it hasn't been like that under Rodgers the past 2 seasons. This season's an exception so far in a sense, because of what I cited above. Even there, you can see we've actually still got both the results against the top and crap 10 pretty close.

2012/2013:
Versus Top 10 : P18, 3W 9D 6L = 18 pts
Versus Crap 10: P20, 13W 4D 3L = 43 pts

2013/2014:
Versus Top 10 : P18, 11W 2D 5L = 35 pts
Versus Crap 10: P20, 15W 4D 1L = 49 pts

2014/2015:
Versus Top 10 : P13, 8W 1D 4L = 25 pts
Versus Crap 10: P15, 7W 5D 3L = 26 pts
