Liverpool ... less rest between games than any other team in Europe

Liverpool FC will have had an average of less than three days rest between games over the course of January and December this season, according to research.

The Reds’ punishing schedule means that an average of just 2.9 days separates their fixtures between 2 December 2015 and 26 January 2016.

That’s fewer than any other club from Europe’s four biggest leagues (England, Germany, Italy and Spain) to have qualified for European competitions this season.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has remarked repeatedly about his surprise at the sheer amount of games his side has had to play.

Since taking over from Brendan Rodgers, Klopp has overseen no fewer than 20 games in all competitions, a figure will that have risen to 25 by the end of this month with games to come in the Premier League, FA Cup and Capital One Cup.

By contrast, Manchester City have had an average of 3.3 days between games during the same period, Tottenham 3.6 days while Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all had an average of 4.1 days.

With the injuries the side got as soon as klopp arrived it was silly to attempt to play on 4 fronts. We should have focussed on the league as with the squad we have and with United and Chelsea in the doldrums we would have had a good chance at 4th...

Europa league and Capital cup are shite...30% less rest... and less time to train and change things.

Stupid.

I think part of it is to do with Klopp trying to get the main squad to play to his style so therefore he initially played quite a few of the first team players in most of the competitions. Also the reason we want to get 4th is to qualify for the CL, but another route is to do well in the Europa cup and try and win that so it is not all stupid. Also we still have a chance at 4th despite our current inconsistencies. I think what we will find is that we will be putting in more effort since that fuck up against West Ham - the players have had a kick up their backsides to use their fucking heads and increase their match intelligence - at least that was obvious in the game against Stoke.

I agree about prioritizing certain competitions. At this point we are 2 games from the league cup so it makes sense to take that seriously. The Fa Cup still has all the top sides in it and West Ham up next so Id be putting that at the bottom of the priority list. In terms of getting into the CL its either we finish 4th or win the Europa. By next Monday night we should know if 4th is any way realistic. If its not then bite the bullet and prioritise Europa for a trophy and a CL spot.
