Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers keen on deal for Luciano Vietto – dubbed 'the new Sergio Aguero'

The Argentine forward has been in superb form for Villarreal and could help fill the goalscoring gap left by Luis Suarez last summer

Brendan Rodgers wants the ‘new’ Sergio Aguero to replace old Liverpool favourite Luis Suarez.

But the Kop boss will have to fork out £12million and fight off interest from Euro giants Real Madrid and Inter Milan to land Villarreal hitman Luciano Vietto.

Rodgers has turned his sights on Vietto, 21, after admitting Italian flop Mario Balotelli does not suit his team’s style of play.

Former Manchester City striker Balotelli has failed to shine on his return to the Premier League, and is without a top flight goal in 10 league outings for the Anfield side this season.

Rodgers, who signed Balotelli from AC Milan for £16million last summer, hopes to off-load the maverick marksman in next month’s transfer window - and has earmarked Vietto as the number one target to take his place.

Vietto has been likened to fellow Argentinian Aguero, who has notched an incredible 94 goals in 141 games for Manchester City since checking in at the Etihad as a £38million capture from Atletico Madrid in July 2011.

Rodgers will not expect that kind of phenomenal return from Vietto if he succeeds in prising him away from the La Liga high fliers.

Nor would he look to the former Argentina under-20 international to emulate the feat of Suarez, who netted 82 times in 133 outings for Liverpool before joining Barcelona for £75million five months ago.

But he believes Vietto can be a consistent scorer and grab the goals that can fire the Reds to a top four finish and another crack at the Champions League.

Vietto penned a five-year deal when he joined Villarreal from Argentine team Racing Club in a £4.85million switch last August.

And he has already built a reputation as one of European football’s most feared finishers after plundering 12 goals in 23 league and cup games for the Spanish outfit.

'European football's most feared finishers'. After 12 top flight goals. Some journos should be punched in the face.

Haha... I spotted that too. It seems the per-requisite for being a journo is to be as sensationalist as possible, about anything.

Read about this in the morning and did the obligatory Youtube video search. Results below from both his Racing and Villarreal days

Likened to Aguero?

By who and why?

This is the sort of baseless shite that people remember long after we sign the player and then lament our inability to develop players

We're attacking the post not the poster fella. It is a fairly absurd article.

I think that as we are in an age of so many journos, some will want to take a punt on an unheard of player so that in the event of that person succeeding they can hang their hat on it. Gets pretty boring after a while though!

If he's like Aguero, wouldn't it be great that the person would explain why. Because apart from being small and Argentinian, I don't know what else they have in common

He should have gone the whole hog and called him the new Maradona.

Has anyone dubbed the "New...." anything been a success?

Wasn't Messi the new Maradona?

And I remember Aguero being likened to Maradona as well.

They worked out ok.

Not sure what being "The new Aguero" means now though.

God knows how many times I have heard; "The New Messi", "The New Ronaldo", "The New Zidane", "The New Lilian Thuram", all turn out to be shit. I guess if they're hailed as "The New Maradona" they might come very good.

Liverpool Transfer News: Reds Looking to Reignite Interest in 'Next Zlatan Ibrahimovic'

Liverpool are reportedly looking to revive their interest in Swedish starlet Valmir Berisha in January.

The 18-year-old striker was earlier heavily linked with a move to the Premier League following his impressive performances in the 2013 Under-17 World Cup, where he was the top scorer with seven goals.
However, Berisha, who is being dubbed as the next Zlatan Ibrahimovic, opted to move to AS Roma last January, rejecting interests from the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
Now it is believed that the teenager is desperately looking to make a move out of Roma after failing to make a single appearance for the senior team.
Some reports in Italy have indicated that the player may be loaned out in January so that he gets exposed to more first team football.
Although Greek side Panathaniko are believed to be leading the race to secure the teenager's signature on loan in January, the Express claims that the Reds have also revived their interest in Berisha.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, who is desperate to sign a new striker after both his summer signings – Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert – turned out to be flops this season, is reportedly considering Berisha as a temporary solution to solve his attacking crisis until he finds a proper forward.
Meanwhile, Rodgers said that he will not be doing much business in the winter transfer window, insisting that he is satisfied with the players he has got.
"There won't be a lot of transfer activity from us - if any - over the course of the January period. My job is to coach and manage the players that are currently here and work hard at maximising the talent that they have. That's what we'll look to do," Rodgers told Liverpool's official website.
"I don't think it's a good time to spend. If you look at last year, we never brought anyone in. My job is to coach the players we've brought in, to manage them."
However, the Northern Irishman claims that Liverpool's owners are always ready to back him if he decides to get a new player in January.
