Liverpool accept £6M for Riera

My only thought on that is I just wish he'd have saved it for when when Insua strayed out of position.

I don't get the Riera hate.

How can he stir up that level of emotion?

He's an average player who wishes to leave because he feels mistreated by our former manager, and clearly Roy isn't too bothered on him either.

Arsed.

Who also liked to slap round younger members of the squad.
Perhaps he deserved it, who knows.
He was an average player who made us look a better team when he played.
Another who crossed Benitez somehow and lived to regret it

regards

Agreed, but I think he was a good player, albeit with significant limitations.

He came into the team last year fired up, trying to impress too much, and went out much the same way, and it's left us losing money.

Re: Liverpool accept £6M for Riera

Watching SSN just now and they showed Riera's arrival in Greece.

It was absolutely mental! Big crowds with flares (not the jeans) celebrating as if they'd won the Champions League. Bizarre.

The down side is that SSN confirmed the fee is £3.3M up front with a further £1.6M if they win the league.

Wiki says we paid about 8 million, thouight I remember it was around 9 million.

Figures.
1. The transfer was done in Euros (about €12M if I remember correctly) and so any £ figure will be quoted against a moving exchange rate. €12M is a hell of a lot more pounds now!

2. We bought a 26-year old with a reasonable record on the fringes of the Spanish squad. We are selling a 28-year old that has a discipline question, clearly has got to go and we are clearly desperate for money

Darius Vassell got a similar reception when he went to Turkey. It was like the return of the messiah or something. The crowd were hysterical. I expect 4 goals in 24 appearances was enough to bring them crashing back down earth though.

Greece will suit him perfectly.

It's the home of average players being adored and overpaid.

He's no real loss now Cole is here

he came out and said some pretty negative things about Liverpool..

im suprised anyone is sticking up for him..

If he hit a young player and then came out and stated we were a sinking ship and he wants out immediately?!?! well quite frankly .. im happy the cunt has gone. Benitez can obviously be a bit of a dick... but Riera certainly hasnt helped his cause....

Goodbye you big mouth tit.

Didnt he also change his mind at one stage and say he wanted to stay and fight for his place only to change his mind again and say he wanted off a sinking ship.

Seems the fighting for his place involved punching Pacheco.

Im glad to see the back of the fucker.

Yup, our Riera problems are over.
There ya go

Wasnt there similar scenes a couple of years ago for a Darius Vassell or someone? I think it was in turkey. God love the poor fuckers.

Riera just said in a press conference that Olympiacos is not only one of the best teams in Grecce, but also one of the best teams in Europe...

Mind.boggeling.mental.

I'm glad he's gone and I am happy with how quickly we are doing business these days.
Players signed and sold fairly quickly, no messing around.

That outburst was the final straw for an enraged Benitez, as Riera was recently involved in a training ground bust-up with an unnamed young member of Liverpool’s squad that appalled witnesses to the incident.

Riera is understood to have landed at least one blow on the youngster.

Its a bit fucking one sided though isnt it?

The aggression was pretty one sided though.

The story goes that Pacheco didn't pass to Riera, Riera had a go and pacheco told riera to fuck off. Riera then just planted one on him.
