LFC SOLD to NESV.

We're not going to see Abramovich types spending 200M on players at some random club for much longer I don't think. If the first round of rules don't kill it in 2012, it'll happen soon after. And when that happens, us having a new stadium will be important.

As for mid-table comments, I don't recall anyone really looking at AC Milan that much differently when they got relegated and spent a couple seasons out of the CL. They're one of Europe's elite and we all knew they'd be back. It's the same with us (I hope).
we don't have to hope, keni, not with a competent manager in charge.

Shame, I actually liked that design.

that's what I thought. you don't pay HKS 30m to design the thing and give away the rights to the designs.

That's great if true. I'd love to see it built cos it's awesome.

Didn't Hicks say in that interview he wants us to build that stadium? We must have the rights to it then, although maybe he gets something out of it too.
Good point re-fifa rules. I think you mean Juventus though. AC werent relegated.

Eek! Oh yeah! Wrong cheating Italian side.

I was thinking of Milan playing in the Europa League and got confused. I blame the early hours.

In the first press conference just after the deal was finalised, Henry gives his standard too early to say answer, and Broughton, wanting to clarify that SOMETHING will be done, says "there will be a stadium redesign (unintelligable)"

Yea, so that probably means nothing, but I'm bored.

if they redesign the stadium that will be a shame because the (first) HKS submission blew me away. amazing.

What is interesting to me is that anfield, while considered sacred ground, is not the same as Fenway in any way. There isn't the same sort of consensus that building a new stadium would be sacrilege. Anfield has gone through massive changes, much like Fenway, but not in such a way that it has kept any significant architectural essential character. From the outside it has no remarkable architectural features of any kind, and it's not in an area that anyone goes to for any reason other than a game. Its most defining features, the kop, has changed massively over the years, and there isn't anything different about it that couldn't be approximated elsewhere. Stuff like the shankly gates would be preserved in any sensible new build.

There isn't much there to preserve, other than some attachment to the location, and the ground. I'm not discounting that, but I don't think it's worth it.

It didn't blow me away, but it'd be a tremendous stadium to build. It fa little distant, too architectural, and most certainly with all its glass and open spaces, not substantial enough. It certainly has all the bells and whistles, but a cauldron it was not.

I loved the 18,000 seater Kop stand. It looked awesome. I also liked the use of stands rather than a bowl.

am I the only one who preferred the red and white checkered kop of the first design to the all red kop of the second design?

Nope, I preferred it checkerboard.

It's academic though, cos it'll have the sponsors name plastered on it should it ever be built.

Well, wouldn't you be open to the idea of your far more successful rivals having to subsidise you indefinitely?

Yep, the only decent thing G & H really did was getting a great stadium design, along with signing nando.

So two seasons ago determines what we are now does it ? I must go back and look at all those threads in 2007 where we were claiming to be European Champs.

You've become a joke.

And you are a fountain of wisdom Ross obviously.

I've aged about 10 years since i started to manage that team. At least i've got a certain 3 points to come when we play at your place soon.

It's not just corporate boxes, but the conference facilites & events that the club make money on 5days a week. It's the majority of income for Emirates & OT despite the ticket prices & huge capacities.

The stadiums are empty 90% of the time, by utilising that space at that time you make money do thaat you need more space & better facilities, created with conferencing & events in mind.
that's interesting and surprising. have you got a breakdown of their revenues?
It doesn't look to be correct. Note 3 to the accounts:

http://www.arsenal.com/assets/_files/documents/sep_10/gun__1285660177_Arsenal_Holdings_plc_Annual_Re.pdf
thanks.

the worrying thing about that is arsenal have turned over £235m in past 2 years from 'Property development'. i wonder if that's all related to the redevelopment of Highbury to offset cost of the the Emirates, because we haven't got any way of reproducing that sort of contribution.
Yeah it is, they can't have much left to sell though so that will dry up soon enough.

Interestingly their other revenues are down on 2009.
