LFC considering move for Crouch

We are badly in need of a forward who can hold the ball up, and there is nobody better at that job than Crouchy. If Torres stays, the combination would be very effective.

Are people suffering from memory loss?
What was so great about his stint here?
He scored some goals, some classy touches here and there but ultimately he was rubbish.
I took him like 63 games to score his first goal.
He's 7ft 8 and can't head a ball.
He runs like an 85 year old.

I'd rather we keep Ngog, to be honest.

Yeah ok.

I'd have him back for the right price. Didn't want him to leave in the first place and he's a far superior option than N'Gog.

please no.... no no no!!

We would always play long... he would masterfully pick the ball out of the air and balance it on the tip of his shoe without even a wobble... BUT THEN... he would hold onto it running away from goal for 15 seconds before passing it back to the fucking person who kicked it long in the first place.

I think he has a wonderful touch - However he is just so slow, immobile and predictable. Id much rather we signed someone who doesn't give players the easy option of thumping it long. He is like a big flashing light house ; [move]HIT THE BALL LONG...[/move]

That's the polite version of what I just screamed.

I agree that was a problem during Crouchy's last stay, and maybe the reason Benitez decided to sell him. But it wasn't Crouch's fault that when the team was playing badly, they humped the ball upfield to him. It's something a good manager should be able to sort out.

This. However I'd rather we went for someone better. Forlan for ca. 10M would be great, could play with / without / replace Torres.

If crouch comes back for 2 mil, why not?
[/quote]

Because he wont cost 2 mil, he would cost much more. Then we would go back to playing this long ball bullshit again. Plus he wasnt anything special. Bring huntelaar instead 🙂

Except that he won't return to England. And would cost far more than 10M given he was the player of the World Cup

This is about right.

He's not good enough to be a starter. His best use is as an impact player. A return for a small fee at a realistic wage would be good business as I think he's a better option than Ngog. However to show any real intent Liverpool really need to be investing in better.

2 mil and 30k a week, and sit on the bench to be used as last 15 minutes sub if we need a different approach to score. Done if Crouchie is willing. If not willing forget it.

I don't get comments like this. What's it based on? He's always been a poor sub, his record for Liverpool from the bench was poor, his record for goals to games though was very good, despite those initial 19 games.

He is what he is, he's a good option to have, a handful at times and he has the technique to sometimes score valuable, top drawer goals. As an option he'd be good, and it's down to the manager to stop the team hoofing it when he plays (which is an exaggeration anyway), but as a replacement for Torres? Nope. If he and another came in, someone of real quality with pace, then it wouldn't be a bad choice at all, we need numbers and he's proven. But I'd be doing my upmost to make Torres stay, Crouch would just be another option to have on the books.

So
- Spurs sign Crouch for £10 Million and sell him for £2 Million
- Crouch signs for us, to sit on the bench despite leaving us because he was sitting on the bench
- Crouch takes a pay cut of £30 - 40k

I can't see any flaws in this logic

Many of us seem to be viewing Crouch in the same way as Benitez did, as a player to have on the bench to be brought on if things are not going well.

I don't think this is an appropriate way to deal with Crouch at all. He should always start when fit, and should be an integral part of the attack. We know that he can score great individual goals, but the most important aspect of his game is his ability to hold the ball up. Crouchy nearly always gets his head to the ball first. I don't think either Benitez or Harry Redknapp got the best out of him.

I think we should have done more to keep Peter Crouch - surely playing occasionally with Crouch instead of Torres if preferential to N'gog as backup? But I'm not convinced we should go back in for him, nor do I see a great partnership with him and Torres developing.

Torres needs a skillful number 10 behind him, not a big target man. He's not Owen or Defoe.

Nah, his best season was the one at Southampton which prompted us to buy him. It was an exceptional season in his career, in that he was actually quite prolific. Close to 1 in 2. I doubt he'll manage that again.

Basically 'Arry is trying to offload his average strikers (Keane, Crouch) to put the money into a striker that will keep him in the top four.
