let's be honest

Aspas looked well off the pace against United and so far he's struggled to find space to work in. Which is a bit worrying but i'll give him more time obv. His touch hasn't been great either in the league. He was labelled a diet Suarez and in the pre season he looked decent which can obviously be misleading. I wouldn't call him lazy though as someone did above.

I have plenty of time for Alberto. He looks a classy player. He'll take the ball in tight positions and move it again. We might see hiim against United in the cup.

Ideally, we'd give him minutes in games we are comfortably winning. Perhaps this Saturday.

Look in the bright side - both Aspas &Alberto have already contributed as much in these first 4 games as Downing did in his entire first season.

Yeah but it's like four games in. Now, I do realise that you're renowned for being a bit of an impatient, ultra critical poster, but they have time to come good. People said the same with other players like Henderson, perseverance & patience eventually paid off, so sitting here four games in and being all smug about it and final in your damnation of the player is a bit premature.

He does look shit though.
A shame really, because as much as I was meh about him signing for us, I thought the one thing he'd offer was pure fighting spirit, biting at the heals of every defender in sight.
Suarez coming back will not only bring a bit of a genius into the side, he'll also hopefully instil that mentality into the rest of the attackers, provided he comes back the same player he was before the can't be asked crap he pulled in pre-season games.

Yeah, he did remind me of Djimi. But hopefully we're completely wrong.

To me he looks like a much stronger player, both in physique and in movement, and there were also glimpses of rather good ability on the ball.

I don't quite see the comparison myself despite also thinking he was amazingly rash in his challenges, and quite awful with his positioning. Reckon most of that was down to a new league, a new team and lack of match fitness.

I'm basing my opinion of Aspas of the fact he's 27, had one decent season in the top flight and can't trap a bag of cement.

Aspas has played 4 games in a totally new league, he cost £7mill FFS!! Give him a break

Is he any better than Morgan or Texeira. We could have promoted one of those who I doubt would have done worse and saved 7m for where we really need a player ( in midfield )

In fairness, it's still very early days for Aspas too.

He should be nowhere near first team for the time being though.

Moses, Sterling and Ibe should all be ahead of him imo.

Ibe definitely deserves a chance at the very least. Sterling still isn't quite there, but he's still a better option than Aspas.

Yeah it's still early days for Aspas. He needs to play in the reserves.

Aspas should be our backup striker and play only when Suarez and Sturridge are both unavailable. Didnt he play exclusively as a striker in Spain?

Our other 3 forward spots can be filled up by Moses, Coutinho, Sterling, Ibe and Alberto.

To be honest, I'd rather Borini to be our backup, and Aspas to be our backup backup.

He was complete shit against Swansea, but let's wait a little bit longer before we confirm his shitness.

Putting Alberto in the same bracket as Aspas is ridiculous. This lad has talent and will prove it.

Aspas needs to grow a pair.

Aspas turned 26 last month.

I love how he's gone from 27 to '30 in 2 years time' in this thread!

So he's actually going to finish next season, 2014/15, aged 27, not 30?

We'll probably get what we paid for him even if he doesn't get much better. But really, he should only play if we have injuries or suspensions.

And how will they pay his wages even if he is only on 30k a week. We are stuck with him till he goes on loan somewhere.

Well, hopefully he improves so he doesn't just end up being dead wood.

He's not been able to make much of an impact so far but I guess the usual mitigating factors apply along with the fact that the team hasn't quite been playing like a team so far - it's all looking a bit haphazard.

If we're not going to be able to build up our attacking play without Coutinho and Suarez, I'd like to see Ibe put in there so that we can be lethal in our counter attacks with Moses, Sturridge and Ibe bombing forward.
Gerrard will certainly shine with those passes on the counter.

and the 18 million on sakho'shit

I think that's really unfair, I don't think he looks that bad, he's just not a good full back, which is funny, with him not being a full back.

It's rodgers fucking fault for playing the stupidest back 4 I've seen in some time.
